For people having problems, check this. If you are exporting a deck from CCGDECKS, it incorrectly puts "WW" instead of "WWK" as each card's tag. To open them in MWS, open the deck with a word processing program and change all instances of WW to WWK.

I've learned to NEVER keep a 2-lander. The third land will be at least 15 draws away.

More on what Tahn said. If you aren't sure about something, ANYTHING, ask a judge. Sometimes a player may not be lying to you about a ruling, but he'll be wrong nevertheless.
Also, if you see either you or your opponent commit an error, CALL A JUDGE. If it's your opponent who did something wrong, you'll want judges to know and keep track of it. If YOU made some sort of mistake, calling a judge yourself will prove your goodwill. Judges are human. They'll penalise you according to the rules either way, but they'll err in your favor when considering if you were cheating or if it was an honest mistake.

EDIT: Also, win or lose, you may want to talk to your opponent about your game afterwards. You'll learn from your mistakes, and the person who'll best see your mistakes is the one who wants to crush you. :3

I got first place the other day in a small local draft, and I played WB aggro/control. Lots of white removal, Steppe Lynxes and a Vampire Lacerator or two, double Explorer's Scope, a few random dudes, Emeria Angel, that black Specter whatshisname, and a splashed Scuttle Mob. I never even saw the Specter.
My MVP was Emeria Angel, with the Lynxes close behind. I lived the dream on the very last game:
    T1 Plains, Lynx
T2 Swamp, swing, Lacerator and another Lynx
T3 Plains, play and equip an Explorer's Scope to the Vampire, swing revealing a swamp.
T4 Emeria Angel, Play a land, swing, reveal another land from the scope.

Yeah, aggro is awesome, BUT you better be sure you have either nice removal or some big bombs in case you start off slow.

I finally tried adding a first layer of primer paint. Here are the pros and cons:

    PROS
-Primer sticks great on the card. After covering it up in primer, you can bend the card, rub it, whatever, it won't come off.
-Primer covers very nicely, so 6-7 layers are more than enough. The paint you apply to the primer afterwards will make the card beneath invisible!
-Acrylics stick perfectly to primer, MUCH better than to the card itself.
-You can use soft pencils on the primer paint, so it's easy to draw a sketch before starting to paint!

    CONS
-Primer sticks a LOT to the card, so you can't fix mistakes with toothpicks, etc. Be extra careful!
-It adds a bit of thickness to the card, so be careful to apply thin layers!
-You CAN erase soft pencils from primer, but that means if you try to draw with the pencils again in the part you drew, it won't stick correctly. Acrylics will still grab on perfectly, however.
-As the primer is slightly thicker, it can add unwanted texture to the card! Remember to apply very thin layers, and DON'T add all the layers with the brushstrokes in the same direction.

    Those are all great people!

RabidWombat: It's a pity you didn't cover the text box on that branching bolt. But still really good!

I'm having a hard time with the Halo Hunter to Bayonetta conversion. I'm used to using acrylics on miniatures, not on flat surfaces, and the technique is VERY different. Well, I'll try to post it this weekend if I can, but having an Extended tournament and a Draft tomorrow might make that hard.

We'll just assume it's an average pack, a few good cards, some mediocre stuff and some jank.

Would you take a Hedron Crab P1P1, ever?

Yes. If I'm cracking boxes, and drafting just to pass the time, I'm more than willing to do silly things.

Lost to blue the other day. Played right into a Cancel, of all things. Bye bye hasty dragon!

I agree that you have to lock up the ground early, just that you should be able to do it with 2-drops. Rarely if ever will you see an aggro deck in Sealed as insane as you can have them in Draft.

+1 to Explorer's Scope being awesome, and usually underrated. Khalni Gem is also better than most people would make you think it is. Not only does it not set you back as much as it would seem. It "costs" 1-2 mana, and can set up a great landfall chain. Plus it's good fixing for colors other than green.

    1) Dedicated artifact/enchantment removal is playable, but like you said, I'd much rather play things like Kor Sanctifiers. If you DO maindeck dedicated hate, I'd probably keep it at 1 copy maindeck.

    2) Not really. Sealed is usually much slower than draft, barring the occassional absurd pool. You SHOULD, however, give importance to your 2-drops, but 1-drops shouldn't be needed.

    3) Removal is always important. But Magma Rift isn't generally a good option, unless you are also playing extra lands for landfall, or that black card that gives you back a land and a creature. Obviously, Journey to Nowhere is THE removal to splash for.

    4) 17-18 is the way to go. If you don't really have lots of landfall, 17 may be best. You can sometimes play one or two more lands in specific decks, but you shouldn't really play less than 17, what with all the Adventuring Gears and whatnot.

    5) Sealed is a lot more swingy than drafts. In a draft you can force an archetype, but in Sealed? Go with what you've opened.

Actually it's not yours until you finished the event. You also can't just keep a sealed pool you should sweep because it's worth much money. Just because you are registering it, it's not yours. The cards you get later are yours.

This is incorrect. You are ONLY have to play the first round of a tournament. After that you can freely drop, and keep whatever cards you have. And as soon as you recieve your Sealed pool or draft a card, that card is yours, even if you are for some reason disqualified before you get a chance to drop.

    EDIT

It's not really anything like that. I payed for the packs in which I am opening - in your case I haven't payed for anything.

This is also incorrect. In the case of Sealed, you paid for the cards you will be randomly assigned after every player registeres the cards he or she opened. In a draft, you paid for the cards you choose to pick. In neither case are the cards you open in a pack yours.
The only exceptions to this are small Sealed events where you don't pass the cards you registered, and treasures you open are yours to keep.

I'm aware. I do pretty well at a highly competitive store, so I am not gonna bash on myself if I take a money rare here and there.

Also, as a note: I was bringing up this question in regards to a P1P1 type of situation.

Anyway - I guess I didn't think about it enough - I guess if you ever open a $100 pack you just drop? Heh.

P1P1, if it's a money rare AND good in Limited, go ahead. If it's a dual? Duals are sick in Zendikar Limited with landfall, so...

And IF you somehow opened a 100$ card, well, you COULD always play one round then drop.

Either way, the rules require the players to be randomly seated, so why should it be otherwise?

About the card shuffling or not discusion..it's stupid because you actually have to shuffle anyway. At everything bigger than FNM/unsanctioned draft, the judge will instruct you to shuffle the pack before passing it.

You'd be surprised how many people don't do this. And he's asking for help, so telling him to shuffle is hardly stupid. Seems to me he won't know most of the less game-related rules.
