Honestly im just glad the top 2 decks got some shine. I have felt that Mardu pyromancer has been low key a deck to beat for awhile. Also Lantern has been flirting with being fringe or just being one of the best decks in the format. That being said im surprised Whir hasnt jumped in price, then again it is a relatively new card.
i just have a very simple question. Is there a reason why trinisphere is not just run main board at this point? there are very few cards that are under 3 and even if its argument of chalice, isnt trinishphere just as back breaking as a chalice for 1?
because had the call gone his way he had lethal for his turn. that is why he was angling. the grixis player had a stubborn denial and temur battle rage so if he had got tasigur it opened the way for lethal. the only thing that stopped that was the fact the kikimoon player drew his land and was able to cast 2 burn spells because the first one got denialed. honestly that match came down to drawing a land off the top.
it would have been relevant though had he not had double burn because the grixis player drew temur battle rage on his turn so would have had lethal for the upcoming one.
grixis DS vs kiki moon. The kiki moon player had shackles on tasigur. the opponent i believe asked a question about shackles so they backed up to end step and the grixis player called a judge saying he untapped shackles.
this is why i cant play alot of decks i like online because of loops that end up taking to much time. Whenever i play the deck IRL once i establish a loop ill explain the loop im doing and most people concede once i show the win con. thats also why i added the reservoir to speed things up because it is miserable looping a spell bomb to kill someone if they wont just concede.
affinity does just fine and as foodchaingoblins said eggs wouldnt actually be that bad since you can play a better version of "sunny side up". the data that is available though suggests fair decks tend to do better than the glass canon broken stuff.
if it were me it would most likely be RW prison or a control variant of some sort esper/jeskai. you could even make the case that a midrange deck like jund could be a decent option against that field as it can have all the options to deal with that sample.
Well I have been playing it at the local level and thus far I have never seen the same deck twice. I have seen this in three tournaments:
Tournament 1
Naya Burn
8 Rack
Humans
Tournament 2
Emrakul Ramp
Affinity
Ad Naseum Combo
Tournament 3
Spirits
Eldrazi tron
Dredge
9 games, 9 different decks.
i would need to know what you are playing to make an assessment because if you are running anything white 6 slots in your SB deal with 6 of those 9 decks. also 6 of those 9 decks are quite frequently played and should be prepared for anyway. I dont really play in bigger events but ive never felt like i was an auto loss to a specific deck unless i was playing something that was glass cannon. I also play a wide variety of decks so i try to play what has the best chance against an unknown field. There are definitely matches i wish i could dodge while playing deck X or deck Y but even while playing bad match ups ive never felt like there wasnt something i could have done better to win a match.
i personally like the whir lists a bit more because of how explosive they can be as well as the consistency in getting your combo. that being said the emrakul lists tend to be a bit more resilient to hate. this is a pretty stock list with exception of aetherworks resevoir, but its the list i like to play. i would say test a few lists and pick one you like.
whenever im in a slump i just play decks that i dont expect to do well. that may sound odd but sometimes just playing for fun will clear your mind and open up different decision making. I was destroying people with sun and moon for a bit then just started taking losses due to variance so i switched to a tier3 eggs deck and started winning again because 1) its not a deck alot of people play so they are less prepared and 2) although it does get cross hate sometimes its better to get back in the habit of playing through hate to better your decision making.
