You: Tap 8, play Lorthos. End my turn.
Them: EOT, Path Lorthos?
Yeah, awesome tech.
By the way, you're using three Fetchlands... why? Because you saw Chapin's list with a 2/1 split on Mesa/Tarn and figured that must be the new pro mana base? Look at his list again - he didn't use mountains. -_-
actually i haven't seen his list. im running a 2/1 split because thats what i have, and that in my mind is the best way to get the red source i need considering im only running 1 red card. and what kind of idiot taps himself out in a control deck to play their finisher? id cast it with support in hand. What i did see of the interview was the 1 iona and i happen to like that. instead of acting like a dick you may want to offer suggestions. do you find something wrong with the mana base if so what? dont like the list offer suggestions as to what you would replace.
so this is my list of what i plan to run for fnm this week. Since we are running a control Deck i figured Mentos, the fresh maker might actually be a fun little tech. Lets face it you are ganna have mana and denying them the ability to play things or attack is pretty good
first game i open with 2 bloodghast and a zendikon. he bolts the ghast i play another, he intimidating bolts one i play a land bring it back and make a land a 3/3. im a bit to quick and he cant come up with anything
2nd game hes able to hold me off for a bit drops ajani and follows with a DoJ. i draw into a couple ghasts and start swinging away. each of us are at 4 and he has the board wiped. i play a land bring back 3 ghasts and swing for the win.
match 2 vs Mr America 2-0
game 1 i play a ghast then on turn 3 a zendikon and swing for 5 he bolts the land and we are slowly getting there. he plays Jace2.0 way to early and i kill it. he DoJ at this point i have 2 ghasts in grave yard and play a land to bring them back. i swing he activates his land and blocks. i play a fleshbag after making him sac the land. persecutor gets there and he concedes.
game2 he gets mana screwed and zendikon hits for 12 nighthawk for 2 and 2 blightning for 6
match 3 vs Standard Dredge 0-2
game 1 i honestly thought about playing this deck instead because no one would have sb for it. the dude floors me and goes off on turn 6
game 2 i sb in hemorrhages and kezul but dont have the mana for the kazul and my hemorrhages get milled he floors me again.
match 4 vs jund 2-1
game 1 i outrace him thats all there is to it. im fortunate enough to have a couple ghasts and nighthawks.
game 2 zendikons are not doing well in this match because of the removal i get put behind on land due to bad plays and he ramps into a broodmate on turn 5
game 3 we are racing i drop a persecutor and it gets slammed with a terminate. down to the wire im at 3 hes at 4 i swing get in for 2 and blightning for the games.
top 8
game 1 vs standard dredge 2-0
i get to get a little revenge same guy that beat me. he gets a good early start i terminate his crab then kick a gatekeeper to kill his other crab on turns 2 and 3. he never sees a black source or crypt and i slame him 5 a turn with zendikon and gatekeeper. game ends on 7
game 2 he gets a decent start dumps a extractor in his yard but on turn 4 i play a hemorrhage and basically cripple his deck. he doesnt recover and get floored.
as much as i dont like ally, mono white allies is good. honor the pure makes that deck ridiculous making alot of allies out of reach for bolt. and of course brave the elements and harms way are there. if it had spectral it might be the new kithkin
Here's a weird question, how viable do you guys think this deck actually is? When compared to the other decks in the Competitive forums, this one has the last amount of posts. We've almost caught up to RDW, but it seems odd. Is our core maybe too expensive compared to the others or are the others just inherently better that more people focus on them? Just a thought.
junk is a very good deck as it covers a wide variety of things but the reason more people dont play it, i think is the fact that it is ridiculously expensive to build.
prices taken from starcity (yes a bit overpriced but i use this as a standard)
cobra 60
hierarch 64
baneslayer 180 -240 depending on if you are running 3 or 4
fetches 100
pulses 80
thats $544 for the core of your deck other decks are much cheaper and produce similar results
standard has always been expensive and you dont always have to buy the most expensive cards to be competitive. one good way to beat the price is to pre order before the set comes out. anyone with half a brain can tell if a card is ganna be ridiculous or not. baneslayer came out at less than $20 and you knew it was ganna go up. jace2.0 was at 25 on pre order and you knew it was ganna go up. if a card is retarded get it before people realize exactly how stupidly powerful it is.
if you wanna be competitive you can always just use the cheaper decks, like jund or eldrazi. hell even RDW was pretty cheap.
just what i came up with. basically ya start with a deck that can either win by combo or by damage, then when the oppenent sides for the combo disruption just side it out and it becomes kinda like a blood quake variant. against mono green it should be almost an autowin just give them the persecutor and they really dont have a way to kill it unless they have master of the wild hunt i prolly need to get the man lands instead of the life gain ones but i dont have the money right now
is there a real benefit to running a borderpost over Obelisk of Esper? if our primary use is to ramp, wouldnt it theoretically be beneficial to use one that doesn't demand colors for its casting cost and can produce any type of mana we may use, rather than just 2/3?
as other have said the benefit is that you can run a lower land count and they are a bit more versitile then the obelisks. id say the secondary fucntion is ramping i just use them because they increase my artifact count without taking away needed slots for other things
Masturbator decks are Crypt Combo and Time Sieve... Jund throws punches
crypt combo is actually pretty hard to play effectively it isnt all 4th and 5th turn swing for the win. decisions become hard when boros can blast you to nil by turn 5, jund and naya by turn 6
i dont understand how you are getting around the graveyard hate. jund being one that has the hate on lock down. with relics and jund charms not to mention people who are playing control now siding spreadings seas themselves im not understanding how you are comboing early enough. ive been in alot of matches where i can go off turn 4-5 and i get charmed trying to add the mana via crypt.
honestly id prefer the fetches over Terramorphic because sometimes 1 mana means the difference in the game and having it come into play tapped kinda hurts.
dont get me wrong the deck still has decent matches against the whole meta but somethings seem harder to get around
