With all of the artifact creatures and access to things to do with them (throne) what about myrsmith? It gives us access to proliferation and chump blockers? Could be the difference between gideon living a turn or not! Not sure what I would cut though :-(

Note: This changes October 1st, and judges will be able to play in Regular REL events they are judging (such as Prereleases).

That must be what I have seen.

I am ok with that answer. What should I have done after being in that situation? I basically showed my hand because of the ruling, and that is something I can't take back. So, if I became convinced afterward that this was a bad ruling, what is the right thing to do? This was game 3 of a single elimination event.

I had asked the question of the judge (before the pure flame had enough counters) in the specific case of the 7/1 attacking into the 4/4 blocker. The "judge" (store owner, but he is technically the judge for the event) ruled and my opponant nodded agreement. It wasn't until I actually made the play that he looked at it more carefully and changed his mind.

There is bad blood, and frankly, neither one of would have beat the next deck, and in retrospect, I should have walked away, but not because it was right, but because i will see this guy in the store again, and really don't think what will ultimately be a few rating points should matter. Before I reported the results, I told him to go ahead and play the next round, and he was a martyr and said his deck was already dissassembled, but when I asked him if we were ok, he pointedly didn't answer.

In a prerelease or FNM, can't judges play?

Hi everyone! This came up at my prerelease last night. I called for a ruling before making a play. My opponant nodded approval. I then made the play, and my opponant decided it was not right. A lot of argument ensued, and the feeling on the floor was that the "judge" was wrong, but that his ruling stood. I won the match based on that. Now, I am not so sure he was right (and frankly, I wasn't sure before I made the play, which is why I asked. I would have played differently had the ruling been different. I likely would have lost, but at that time of night, I don't know.

Here is the scenario - I have a quest for pure flame in play with three counters and and a zektar shrine expedition with 3 counters on it. I burn him to his face to get the 4 counters on the flame. I pop the expedition to get a 7/1 trampler and pop the flame to get the double damage. The trampler is blocked by a 4/4. What is lethal damage in this case and what tramples? The two options appear to be the critter gets hit for 4 and the player for 3 both of which get double, or the blocking creature gets hit for 14 of which 10 tramples. This makes a difference in the game between lethal or not.

Once I actually made the play, my opponant started saying no, this is like some other card that used to exist and that he was only taking 6 from the trampler. The "judge" (Store owner) stood by his ruling and I won the match. The reaction by other players was split with those voicing an opinion 3 to 1 saying it was 6 damage. Of course, in that case I would have burned the creature instead of the player, and the game would have progressed differently.

So, I guess I have two questions ... 1) What is the right answer and 2) Based on what happened, and the aftermatch, if the ruling was wrong what should I have done?
