So I'm thinking of running a WB enchantment deck around Evershrike. Why? Because I love that card. I know Corpse Connoisseur does this effect, but are there cheaper ways to do it than 5 CMC?
I was playing my Glissa EDH deck against a guy's Kaalia "big, fat flyers" deck.
He had T1 Land Tax into T2 Scroll Rack. Not a terrible start to say the least. After many, many turns of stalling him out with three Maze of Iths (Maze, Vesuva, Deserted Temple), I'm sitting at 3 life and two cards in hand, and a lot of mana to do nothing with. He was at 85 life, had about four-ish cards in hand, and about 20 power on the board, PLUS a True Conviction. And just in case I wasn't dead yet, he had Debtors' Knell. Needless to say, I was screwed.
Fortunately for me, I'm a more experienced player than he is, and I used this to my advantage. By that, I mean I made plays that caused him to make weird (incorrect) choices. Because of some subtle Jedi mind-tricking, and a little luck (dug a bit and drew Diabolic Revelation), I was able to pull of a victory. Kokusho got me a little bit of life. Silklash Spider protected me from his entire deck. And a few beaters whittled his life down. When he was at 30 life, and I was back up to ~20, he scooped.
I know its a vague story, but it was the greatest comeback I've pulled off in a long time. Sometimes, I'm reminded I'm actually not terrible at this game.
I've been a huge fan of the DBZ series since...well...ever. Here I have made an EDH deck with King Kai as the the commander. This is pretty much a deck for the good guys. I may or may not eventually make a villains deck too. I tried to make things powerful enough to warrant being in a 100-card singleton deck, but not overly powerful enough to break the gamestate if they hit the field. There are many many other things I would have liked to put in the deck, but since the deck can only be 100 cards, I didn't have the room. I.E. Senzu Beans, Puar, Oolong, Guru, and many of the techniques the characters perform.
Note that Dende's card is incorrect. I didn't catch the mistype until I uploaded the album. See the note on his card.
Few custom things in the set:
Ki - Instant/Sorcery subtype. As you cast a Ki spell, you may tap an untapped creature you control. If you do, all damage that would be dealt by that spell is instead dealt by the creature you tapped. The deck has a "damage matters" theme to it. Most creatures have a benefit when they deal damage.
Form - Enchantment (Aura) subtype. Represents the different forms we know to exist in the show. Creatures can only be enchanted by one form at a time. After all, you can't be Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan 3 at the same time!
Overcharge - AKA: Kicker. Works exactly like kicker. The only spell that Overcharge works like multikicker instead is Masenko Blast.
I've always liked Glissa, the Traitor. First Strike, deathtouch is no joke. Plus the ability to get back artifacts can be quite powerful. I wanted to make a semi-budget deck based around her. I wanted to take as much of an advantage of her ability as I could. What do you think?
Greaves are in the deck to provide protection for Glissa. Bolt and Helix are definitely things in this format, and she's a prime target. Anyone have any better suggestions for anything in the deck?
I want to build a relatively inexpensive, yet semi-competitive modern deck. While I don't really care if I go 2-2 in a tournament, I mostly care if the deck was fun to play and at least worked once, haha. When people think of "zombie contructed", they think of mono-B or maybe UB. I want to take a road less traveled and go BG. Green gives me access to power zombie cards like Glissa and Putrid Leech, while maintaining the great lords like Death Baron and Undead Warchief.
As you can see, this deck is dudes, dudes, and more dudes. Just in the spirit of zombies. The goal is to have more dudes on the board than my opponent and overpower them via lords.
Sorry for the lack of posting folks, my phone has been out of commission for some time and that's my main source of internet.
So I'm thinking of changing my Modern deck. Right now its a WB midrange deck with things like Mirran Crusaders, Baneslayers, and Stillmoon Cavaliers. But I'm thinking of adding red do give a little more variety and possibly make it a bit more powerful. Here is a projected decklist:
Nighthawks are a weird addition, but with the banning of Wild Nacatl they get a little better. I just wanted a cheap creature thats efficient. Nighthawk returns some of the life loss that the fecthes and shocks take and is returnable via Sun Titan.
My Modern metagame is heavy on white and red, so Phyrexian Crusaders are great. Martyr Proc decks look at their 70 life and think "Awe damn..." Mortify because it gets rid of Blood Moons (and Magus), if I can float the mana in time, and Luminarch Ascension.
I would really like to see Buried Alive and Vindicate enter the Modern card pool. Buried Alive would allow me to build the Haakon, Stromgald Scourge knight tribal deck I originally wanted to build. Oh and Gerrard's Verdict since that card is relatively nuts.
So I created this deck recently and it seems to work surprisingly efficiently. Its a deck loosely based around Glissa, the Traitor's triggered ability. Meaning, I have lots of artifacts in the deck, and plenty of way to kill things. In a tournament yesterday I defeated Illusions, Solar Flare twice, RDW, and Wolf Run Ramp (then lost in semifinals to mana screw). The main deck is catered towards giving small benefits against both aggro and control, and post board I'll be able to focus the deck more once I know what my opponent is playing.
I my meta is not very diverse, unfortunately. People are either plaing Wx humans, Solar Flare, or Wolf Run Ramp. Few are straying from those archetypes. Hence the initial aggro/control split in the mainboard.
Tell me what you think. Any tips are welcome. Nearly everyone I played against yesterday for building a good, original deck. And that they enjoyed playing against it.
i'm in need of a scrub. check my trade thread; nothing too exciting, nor any polluted delta... but worth a try, right? (i could also consider paying for some of it)
anyways, getting pretty far on my WB stoneblade / deadguy ale (thats why i need the scrub)
I'm actually really only looking for foils for my standard and EDH deck. Both need quite a bit... Unless you got lots of those, I can't really help you bud.
Woot! Finally got myself an Entomb for my Geth deck. I'm also throwing a Bloodstained Mire, Verdant Catacombs, and a Marsh Flats in the deck since they make the Scroll Rack in the deck much better. Only need a Polluted Delta to have all the black fetches! $25-30 is a bit much just for something that isn't terribly needed though. I have a Savannah and a Scrubland that someone somewhere will want...
As for Halloween, I didn't dress up in anything. I'm just chilling at my bro and sis' place passing out candy, haha. Tell you what though, it was nice to see all the cute girls at work dress up today though :). Next year, I'm thinking of being Matt Foley. I'm not nearly large enough, but I'll find a way to pull it off, haha.
Ugh, sorry for the lack in posting. My phone's been out of commission for some while, and that's my main source of internet. So I went to states here in Oregon last week. I didn't play, I just went to do some trading and stuff. It was definitely a good day. I finally completed my modern deck, got a bunch of foils for my Commander deck and standard deck, and made a grip of cash. We ended up leaving before the eighth round since both of the guys I drove up there with dropped by then, but it was fun to trade with and play some people from all over Oregon, as opposed to my local area.
Also, just priced my Geth Commander deck. Totals out to be almost $1050. Not bad.
One deck I find hilarious (in standard) is BG. The premis of the deck is to beat down with Phyrexian Obliterators, but with the aid of Prey Upon. Killing a blocker, then forcing your opponent to sacrifice a bunch of permanents in the process seems hilariously sadistic. It'll have to be a mostly mono-black deck with a splash of green. Obliterator's BBBB cost isn't very friendly when it comes to other colors.
The sideboard is tenative since we lack any information on what decks will be requiring hate. So far the various Pod decks and Solar Flare are widely popular. Tempered Steel seems to have maintained its baseline followers. Maybe some sort of mono-white or Wx aggro decks will be showing up. Also, I may need to take the beast withins out for something like Naturalize to combat swords and Stony Silence more effectively. Morkrut Banshee's place may be taken by a Bloodgift Demon if I find that she doesn't pul her wieght effectively. While I wouldn't want to pod away the demon, that isn't always a bad thing, and to be honest I tend to draw Elesh Norn more often than I see a Birthing Pod. Why? I have no idea. I swear I've cast her about 1.5x as much as I've podded into her. Its kind of annoying, but there isn't much I can do to prevent that.
Maybe Raben gets his spark in the third set's storyline. That would be cool, I like Raben. It'll be neat to see how they would design a planeswalker card for someone who just got their spark and was unfamiliar with its potential.
More than likely it'll be one of the three cardless planeswalkers we know of now, though. Fayden may be after the Bloodletter, or Zarek/Atua may show up due to some reason yet to be revealed. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
And I also wonder if Sorin will be the only planeswalker showing up in Dark Ascension. More than likely not.
I figured as much. I didn't think we were going to revisit an old plane so soon. I'm glad to see this news after all the scuttlebutt going around. I'm all for new planes, and I'm curious as to when we'll catch a glimpse of what it is and its overlaying theme.

The lone island in the deck is to make sure Phantasmal Image stays relvant if I draw him, and to help aleviate the life cost of phyrexian mana from Spellskite and Phrexian Metamorph. It hasn't screwed with the color base very much. The reason I don't run a Hinterland Harbor or any of its cousins to help with the blue mana is so I can fetch it with the emissaries or sad robot if I need to.
