I am a little concerned with the direction some of this conversation is heading and wonder what some of you feel like the ideal mythic card would be. I ask because I've seen many people in this thread and others complain that mythics are too good. But when they print a mythic that is worse than most of the rares (lich's mirror) in the set, we hear "WTF OMG! Y Iz thiz mystic?"
I'm just saying that I'm happy with mythics being good cards and so far wizards has kept their promise that utility cards are not at mythic: Banefire, fetches, and many other tournament staples have all been rare or less.
Your answer to the last question was rather unclear. I'd really like to see you take another crack at explaining it. Even knowing the rule involved, I could not follow what you were describing. Perhaps you can give a concrete example (do I have seven creatures in this example?). The idea is to fulfill as many requirements as possible.
However, I think that if I had not been studying for my level 2 exam and came across another question about this rule, I'd be no more enlightened now than before reading the article.
I definitely think they should have some requirement for the main color of the shard. So I think NuTamFu is on to something with this take on Odyssey filter lands.
I think either the scarecrow or hatchling will have the set's new creature keyword mechanic which will likely have something to do with -1/-1 counters or the shared ally color.

Without seeing the complete rules text we are all just guessing, but the lack of "instead" is a big hint that wither might not be a replacement effect. This would give it much cleaner (and intuitive interactions) with cards like Furnace of Wrath or even Lace with Moonglove (Judge! If the damage is replaced by -1/-1 counters does my guy still die to deathtouch?). These are just off the top of my head while scanning this thread for posts on "wither" there are probably more.
I think that this is very likely NOT a replacement effect or they would have gone with the more accepted "when this deals damage to a creature put that many -1/-1 counters on that creature" instead. As written it's not a replacement effect and would interact as expected with cards that create replacement effects or care about "when ~this~ deals damage..."
Pretty involved for an APril Fool's joke.. of course they usually do a lot. Too bad it wasn't funnier. I can't recognize the pirate legend (it's from Legends) but isn't that different art for Higure (during the box shot at 1:38)?
It is definitely ramirez and higure as speculated by the OP. First strike is clearly visible in the rules text.
Random idea - do you know the date of this Tuesday? That's right, it's April, 1st. And what happened before at April, 1st?
That's a very good point. As much as I want to believe it, I'm not sure how it would work. Currently Wizards is releasing 4 sets a year. All four of this year's set are now confirmed (Morningtide, Shadowmoor, Eventide, and Shards of Alara). Next year, we are expecting to see codenames Paper and Scissors in Q1 and Q2, 11th in Q3, and a codename that I forget in Q4.
Last time when unhinged was announced in April it was for a November release in the same year. Right now, we don't have any open slots for a set's release until 2010, unless someof the above information is no longer accurate (speculated 2009 releases and/or four sets per year).

Otherwise a great read.
The Torment style lands might work too as Flappy points out.
Or perhaps something along the lines of:
T: Add B or G to your mana pool. Play this ability only if you control a red permanent.
