Tivadar of Thorn won't be a spellshapers. He is a Soldier not a wizard. Actually the first view we get of him in the books is of a youth who is scarred by the fact that goblins slaughtered his family, and joins the fight just to seek revenge. I see him being kind of a reverse Goblin wizards of sorts. Maybe

It makes it very possible. Actually in the Dark the closest things to a Planeswalker are Ith and Jodah. Ith after he was released, even though it isn't expressly mentioned, I would guess that the transformation he goes through after being released would be the activation of his spark, and he does speak of going to other places. Jodah almost makes the jump to Phyrexia through the use of magic, but never actually gets there. So silly trying to use white magic to go there.
In the Gathering Dark Ith is the Master of the Conclave imprissoned by his apprentice in a cage of Barl's design. His dream was to build an immense maze to keep people away from the studies of the conclave, but it never gets built and The church of Tal eventually lays seige to the Conclave. Barl is no more than a skilled artificer.

I agree with this being split second. It fits the artistic mold, but then again the art for wheel of fate does too, so is wheel of fate going to be a split second wheel of fortune?
