I suppose I should look to see of there is a magic scene here in the verde valley. Supposedly if you add everyone up there's at least 30,000 people living here. At the moment I just work then go home...watch some tv..then sleep. It's a transitional mindset, a bit boring, but I haven't really settled in yet. The work itself is fun, love being out on the ranch, I just need to work on some sort of social life. Magic would at least let me use my legacy deck...I mean I did spend a ton of money putting it together two years ago. Might as well use it...see if Rock can beat Charlie's deck.

Try fishing at the Beach Ria...good eats there...and always fresh. Probably need to bring a grill too, just to get things going. And rule of thumb...if it moves its edible. ...though i suppose in Oz there are some pretty mean exceptions to that rule.

House buying is being a bit stalled in my head. Mainly because I discovered I am in a higher tax bracket than i thought. It's good, because it means I'm making more money, but its bad in that I have a lot less money to work with than I thought. If the government keeps the mortgage tax credits in place at the fiscal cliff then I'll have some real incentive to continue with the idea of buying a house. Otherwise, no. My margine of error isn't great and worst case scenario could be painful...but its survivable either way.

Would have been much easier if I won that $550,000,000 jackpot last night...but alas, it wasn't to be.

    Cheers

I no care about election, i didn't watch or votre; so what can I say?.. Rolleyes

That just means you were not in a swing state. I can't tell you how annoying it was in Nevada. Every other commercial on TV was political, the mail box was filled with nothing but political adds, the phone rang 20+ times a day with political robocalls and political surveys, and the doorbell rang at least three times a day with a political voice (or someone paid by them cause half the time they didn't seem to care or told me they were just doing their job.).

It got so bad that I disconnected the phones, only watched netflix, just tossed out the mail, and posted this picture on my door.

In the end I was really just happy to see the whole thing end. ...and now I'm excited about the 2016 season. Will Hillary go for it? Will Chris Christie get the nomination? Here's hoping for a Palin/Trump ticket for the win! Grin

Oh, and awesome collection there. Do you have it all in Foil yet? I haven't worked on my foil set of innistrad since december. Which sucks now since I'll probably never finish it. Only a third done anyway.

Charlie....enchantress is a mean deck. It's slaughtered my Rock deck almost every time I've encountered it. So I wouldn't discount it. Then again the only legacy deck I own is Rock.

Thanksgiving was good. Still in vegas eating leftovers. Played and Beat Halo 4...gotta say, I expected a ton more from that game. Rather dissapointing.

Three drafts in one night sound fun, but is much more magic than I can typically handle. I haven't played magic since last december...Just haven't been feeling it. I wonder if I'm retired from the game for good.

Successfully finished my first week of work. The main project right now is getting ready for a workshop where we'll teach ranch owners various range monitoring techniques. So I spent all day driving around the ranch looking for various places that could work as a good instructional site. Most the roads are rough, but the truck I've been assigned should work fine...as soon as I get the shifting down. I swear 1st gear is overly sensitive, but I've yet to stall it.

So, thanksgiving next week.... any plans? I'll be driving back to vegas come wednesday.

I saw that, a lot of people ready to pounce on you, Dt, either forgetting the razz you were handing out to all sides or just blinded by bloodlust, I couldn't tell. Clearly they couldn't see how your post was wide enough to hit both candidates. Srs bsns :mad::mad: etc

Well some people are rather sensitive. Funny thing was, a friend of mine shared it with his Ron Paul crowd and the next 50 posts were all jokes about how similar the two candidates were. :-p guess how people took the comment depended on what crowd you ran with.

Still getting all sorts of sad posts from my republican friends. Mostly in the form of psudo-patriotic anti-president propaganda. Guess they are taking it about as hard as I took Bush's re-election. Fun stuff, that.

Had my first day of work today. Just a bit of an orientation with reading papers for most the day. Standard 8 hour day...got home at 4pm. Kinda miss the campfire, the tents, and my crew family just chilling. Bored...guess I'll just find something on netflix.

Hey Dux, you okay? I remember 4 years ago you were a bit unhappy about the results of the election.

Anyone else's facebook go up in a thunderous cloud of angst, anger, and cheers? Its been a whirlwind of all sorts of stuff for me....I've kinda stayed away from some since emotions are high...and being playful and apathetic can be dangerous when emotions are high. Lots of people unfriending others over whatever.

I did post a rant on the results...but it was on election day before the results were read. Easy enough to complain about the stuff both Obama and Romney agreed on, and I thought it was funny and Ironic to bitterly complain about both in the same breath with the same stuff. Didn't expect some of the angry retorts...but jokes on them if they didn't realize i was talking about both candidates.

I am annoyed with the Republican party. I think they lost an opportunity here. I blame the fringe portions of the tea party...but then everybody is blaming everybody else so plenty of finger pointing.

Glad it isn't horrible charlie...though a second opinion might still be worth it if you continue feeling symptoms. I've had friends leave hospitals with broken bones after the doctor told them it was only a sprain.

Daggertooth. . . the Homeowner? Also wacky. I imagine a yurt on several hundred acres of fire-managed wilderness Smile

That would be great. But no, my mom has highly recommended a 3 bedroom 2 bath home...and she made a very compelling case for buying something like that. I'm probably looking at houses that are priced at between $100,000 and $150,000....which is a bit daunting and will take a few months to get enough money for a 3% down payment. I would love to make a higher down payment...but that line of thought leads me thinking of my debt and what caused it and..well...thats just not fun.

I am now moved in Arizona. Got a room, sight unseen, and....I might be regretting it. The room itself is huge and has a decent view, but it's not attached to a bathroom or kitchen...to get to the bathroom I have to go around the house and there really is no kitchen. For $300 a month I figured I could live with that...but there's $140 in utilities, which leads me to think that $440 in these conditions is a bit overpriced. Ah well, worst case scenario is I live here for four months and move again.

I've been so exhausted lately I went to the doctor on Monday and had to get a blood test - checking for Glandular Fever (mono), liver and kidney function, iron levels, thyroid function, and diabetes too I think. Got a call this afternoon saying he wanted me to come back in to discuss the results and I'm a bit scared. Hope I can find time with work and everything!

Take care of yourself and good luck with the tests. Hopefully its nothing.

If the doctor says it is something, take it with a grain of salt and get a second opinion. I don't trust doctors. They mean well, but they'll assume its the most likely disease based on the symptoms and hope for the best. Or maybe they'll make stuff up.

I once went to a university doctor because I was having diarea every morning and was worried that I might have stomach parasites. Probably watched too much of that "monsters inside me" show about random parasites. Blood tests, stool samples, and all sorts of tests later and the doctor gives me a clean bill of health. I was surprisingly healthy. He then gave me three options. 1) Take harsh pills anyway to kill anything in the gut even though nothing was detected. 2) go down town and get a second opinion. 3) Maybe you have AIDS and should go and get an expensive tests. ...those options, from a clean bill of health. Talk about giant leaps. I went and got a second opinion. Turned out I was drinking way too much coffee. X_X

Selling a house? in this Economy? I don't think so. I know that in Portugal it's a Pipe Dream. Things are bound to be better in the US, but I think they are still bad enough to make it hard to sell a house.. But maybe an American can give you more accurate info on that.

Arizona was actually one of the hardest hit states in the union. There are entire cities that has 3/4 of their homes forclosed on with the rest underwater. But that just makes things a buyers market for me. Probably the main reason I'm considering it. First time home buying credit plus historic low interest rates...well I guess I don't want to miss out.

As for selling...well hopefully the house market improves in the two years I'm living in the house. If not, well if its an attractive house I could probably still market it. I'd rather rent, but I don't know the long term probabilities of renting. The area I'm moving to is a hotbed of seasonal work, so If I rent I might not get people there for half the year.

Honestly, the thing thats making me the most hesitant is the idea of furnishing the house. Couches, dishwashers, laundry, beds, and other items are kind of needed...and I could really care less about buying them. Maybe I'm just hesitant to move beyond my primitive lifestyle of owning only whats in my hyundai. Or perhaps I'm rushing too fast and hard to get out of that lifestyle.

And having a job that's not seasonal is great, but you have to know that the fact that you had 10 jobs in 10 years isn't exactly all bad. You've gained a lot of experience on different matters... Now, it may be time to cash out on that Smile

Well it is great...untill you are trying to get a loan and they want to know how stable and reliable you are. :p There's a loophole in logic I can play with though, I can tell them I was a student for the past 3 years. Stability for the win! Never mind the four or so jobs during that time.

I just got finished talking to a lender. My credit scores are awesome, my debt to income ratio is attractive, and I have some cash to put down. But...
    ------------------------
Lender: ....hmmm, there's this red flashing light here telling me that you are living on unemployment right now.

    Me: Redface
    ------------------------

It does sound like things are in my favor. But I need to work for a month before they can file my paperwork. Which means I need to find an apartment anyway. ...part of me thinks that a few more months and I can have a big down payment, but a few more months beyond that then I don't even need a place cause I can just move out.

Also, it doesn't tether me that bad. Of course I can pick up and head wherever. I just need to find renters or sell the house. Thats easy...right?

You guys just needed one more poster,

We actually have six active members...which is a far cry from our original 13 member limit concept. We all tend to have a lot of priorities outside of the forums, especially since most of us don't play nearly as much magic as we did 10 years ago. So we are borderline inactive slow, but if we do get close I'll just phone up one of the guys and tell him to post more. It's not like we've gone months with inactivity. Worth keeping an eye on though.

Congrats to Ria for actually taking time to enjoy the site. Moderatorship, especially the higher ups, can drive a man insane.

So...I'm considering buying a house. I saw some paperwork somewhere that tells me that buying a house will have a monthly payment of around $500. In that area, renting a room will cost me around $600 a month. So...buying is cheaper than renting.

    Problems:
    1) I've never done this before
    2) Getting a loan is painfully difficult since my work history has almost 10 jobs in the last 10 years (which is a bad thing?) and this current job has a known one to two year limit...with possible extension.

Not sure what sort of grandiose expectations these guys have. I mean this job lasts for a full blown year...I've never had one of those. Thats gotta mean something good right?

Well Ria, hope this lets you enjoy the site more. The drama is only drama because people want it to be. I've completely ignored it and didn't even know it was happening. Well that, and I've been camping for weeks on end. Water bottle had an inch of ice in it the other night, getting a bit cold. Anyway, now you can relax and chill with your bros.

@9909. Our clan's a little slow right now, but I wouldn't say its going under just yet. If you are interested I would like to see more posts from you to get to know you a little better. Our previous conversations did not leave me with a positive impression of your demeanor. Perhaps getting to know you better would alleviate that.

Luck Bailed? When was this and why? I suppose we should get that batcave back up and working. S_P and HkKid would probably show up there from time to time.

Good news. I got the job. I'm now working at the V bar V ranch for the University of Arizona!! It's a term, one to two year job, and I'll be doing a whole slew of different types of research projects and outreach and whatever. Pay is the most I've ever had, which isn't saying much at all...but still good. By my projections, I should be able to financially break even in a little over two years. Hazzah!

I have an interview later today, library in get!

I thought you had your old job back. Or were things still in the maybe stage?

I don't plan to be carving any pumpkins this time around.

Job interview went okay. Haven't heard back yet though. After the interview I spent a few days in Sedona, hiking a few hikes and looking at several ancient 1000 year old indian ruins. Then I went north to some more indian ruins before heading east into the Navajo nation to see more indian ruins. I then circled around and went to supposedly the longest slot canyon in the world, toured the north rim of the grand canyon, then drove back to vegas.

Round trip only took me 10 days.

There's more detail of course...and pictures...I need to work on them though. No pictures of me, cause I was holding the camera.

Weather is getting cold. Had an inch of ice in my water bottle last night. On the plus side, it means my trunk will double as a fridge soon. So I will be able to drive around with perishables with no worry. A bit annoying that its getting dark just after 5, but I plan to buy a kindle to keep me company.

Now I'm in vegas...for a few days I assume. Going to vote tomorrow, correct some of my moms papers, then head out east. Playing with all sorts of maybes on where I should go. Haven't planned that far ahead yet.

Daggs: It's a weird situation but basically my LGS sold them to me before he had confirmed the sale with the guy. The guy was a dick that thought he could get more than $30 for the most beat up wastelands I've ever seen in my life, and said he wanted them back.

Well that's between those two guys, not you. Sounds like your getting the raw end of the deal there, and being nice enough to let them do that.

I'm heading out for a bit. Not sure how long. Got a job interview in Arizona and..well...might as well keep camping unless I come up with other stuff.

Sorry bout the meh performance at the prerelease. Hopefully you had a bit of fun still. How did you like the new set anyway?

Why would the store be able to get those wastelands back? They sold them to you, they have no cause or call to get them back. Unless this is a favor to a friend, I wouldn't bother giving them back.

I didn't go to the prerelease. Just never felt like it. Sad, I know, but I couldn't muster any enthusiasm for it.

Thats awesome that you were able to go out hiking and what knot. Always nice to see a pod of dolphins playing around. What kind of wilderness exists on that peninsula?

Haven't really left the house actually. I know I'm a glutton for travel and what knot, but with a job interview in Arizona next week, I figured I couldn't afford to randomly travel too far away from Arizona. So I've been applying to jobs and playing a lot of starcraft.

I was in Borneo when Ravnica first came out. I tried to find a place in Malaysia, but failed. Turned out I just didn't search hard enough. When the first expansion came out I was in Japan, I did go to that prerelease...good times. I had a spoiler list of Ravnica and the expansion...whenever an opponent played a card I had to look up the number to know what it did. Needless to say I didn't win all my games. Grin

Didn't do many drafts, but I do remember everything being multi-colored shennanigans...which is fun. I might go to the prerelease....but my heart isn't into it right now.
