Merely pointing out that chalice isn't some super broken card that needs a ban. It's been out since 2003 and seen some play and now suddenly people are overreacting on it.
Fair decks using cards fairly does not exclude a deck making degenerate use of a card.
You think chalice deserves to be banned now because it's one piece of a possibly overpowered deck? How is eldrazi making degenerate use of Chalice? Eye and temple don't even help cast it. They aren't even casting it easier than other decks like tron already have been.
So if I was on the board for banning and unbanning something, I'd probably ban Temple, Urborg, and Chalice.
All 3? You don't think that's a bit extreme? There are other decks out there that use Urborg and/or Chalice and did before eldrazi became a thing. I wouldn't have a problem with temple or eye getting a ban, but I don't think chalice is a reasonable ban, nor is urborg.
It's good for those that own the cards, but kinda sad those have shot up so much. One of the reasons I started playing Living End when I decided to try modern was that it was reasonable to get in to and I owned a few fetches already. I bought pretty much everything except fetchlands. I paid .59 for spirit guides, 5.21 for fulminators, and 3.20 for blackcleave cliffs. Prices all around have shot up, but living end used to be a cheap/reasonable deck to try. The Living End card itself was just over $2 and now is like 12+. I think one of the attractions of living end was it wasn't the investment some of the other decks were.
I'm considering making room for good old Avalanche Riders again.
I've thought of doing the same thing. I also play blue tron and can get around it, but crumble to dust seems to be popping up more in other decks both for the tron and eldrazi matchups. Should that be a considered card? It's only a single red so it's easy to cast in this deck and while you don't get the body you do with avalanche or fulminator, it can really shut down the land combos. I'm trying to decide if I would rather have crumble or avalanche riders since the casting cost is the same.
To be completely honest, I don't get the banning of Splinter Twin. ....there are so many different variations of Twin
I think that was actually part of the problem. It made it so multiple decks just became some version of twin. Hell, people even had some success throwing it into living end which doesn't really make sense, but still worked.
If you played against a twin deck, you had to pretty much just sit there and keep mana up turn 3 if they didn't tap out. I think/hope it will get some more diversity going now that summer bloom is gone and twin is gone.
On another note, do you guys think we'll have to worry much about Warping Wail becoming a counterspell available to non-blue decks? It hits Living End, and a lot of people might pack it as anti-Twin tech since it kills Mite and Exarch and does work against Infect.
I know you said non-blue, but there is some back and forth discussion on the UTron primer thread about using it. UTron is already a bad match-up either way though.
What's the general feeling about the Grixis Twin matchup? I lost twice in a row against it tonight and had a hard time. I've beaten UR Twin quite a few times and generally feel decent about that matchup, but just felt shutdown against the one I played tonight. Turn 1 thought seize both games didn't help any either. Only good sideboard cards I really had were 1 slaughter games which I never drew and some ricochet traps that came too late.
Also a new video of me playings vs UR twin with derFeind showing off his deep understanding of the modern environment by identifying the opponents deck https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUH5LObrnFc
Nice job. Good call recognizing it was twin and on the sundering titan off of anticipate
Also only played 18 lands with 6 fetches. As well as a Kari zevs expertise main
Ended up losing 2-1 to eventual champion (lantern control)

Won't cast anything but living end though since it's 2 cmc or less
