  • posted a message on Jace, the Mindsculptor Abilities Discussion
I was recently testing my UB build, which obviously runs Jace, the Mindsculptor. It also has a lot of counters [about 10, including Mana Leaks, Cancels, etc.], and removal [Doom Blades, Consuming Vapors, etc.]

Well, my opponent was playing some GW build, with all kinds of cards included (creatures, planeswalkers, spells). The game was under control. He had killed two of my jaces with his manlands and Gideon Jura. In the end, I managed to put the game under control (clean board, opponent topdecking and lots of answers in hand), and I finally cast a Grave Titan, and the opponent conceded.

What surprised me, though, was that in the end, my opponent told me: "Don't brainstorm all the time, use Jace's +2 ability to control my draws".

Well, I was kind of surprised, for several reasons. I argued that using brainstorm is a way of drawing answers, it is an incredible Card Advantage engine, and combined with fetchlands and preordain, it's a way of removing useless cards from hands.

Better than drawing cards, this ability is a way of digging cards, for example, I drew that Doom Blade, or Consume the Meek I needed so much thanks to this engine.

And I think that Jace's Fateseal is not a reliable way of controlling opponent's draws. Sometimes when you put a card on the bottom of his/her library, even if he/she is topdecking, that's not a guarantee that he/she won't draw any threat. I'd rather draw a counter or something.

Finally, this opponent had almost no way of reducing Jace's loyality counters, so, I didn't really need to increase them.

In a nutshell, I'd like to listen to your opinions. How am I supposed to use Jace? Brainstorm as much as I can? Try to reach his ultimate? Neither? Was I right in keeping brainstorming?

    Thanks in advance Smile

Thopter Factory + Time Sieve for infinite turn fun?

(I know it's not standard, but seems a casual cool combo do add to Time Sieve).

Isn't Nihil usually associated with discard? Wouldn't it be too powerful though?

  • posted a message on Necrotic Ooze + Reasembling Skeleton
I doubt it, but I would like to ask for confirmation.

Necrotic Ooze's static ability only works while it's on the battlefield, is it? So I wouldn't be able to activate it's ability from the graveyard while having a Reassembling Skeleton on it, would I?

    Thanks : )

    I don't really understand.

Could someone clarify what is the synergy between multiple Act of Treason?

    Thanks : )

It also ruins mill strategies. Although mill has never been good anyways : P

  • posted a message on Regeneration?
For me, regeneration in the future will be either like Reassembling Skelektons, or like Deathless Angel, it works like WW: Regenerate Target Creature, but even better.

I guess that regeneration could be replaced by indestructible without major impact.

  • posted a message on [SOM] All Is Dust after rotation?
In my opinion, All Is Dust is an awsome card. Especially against Super Friends. Will it still be that good after Scars of Mirrodin is released?
Will we have lots of colorless permanents on the field?

Or will it be even better, because you will be able to fill your board with colorless permanents that will survive the Apocalypse?

Or maybe, will it become a sideboard card in some decks?

I'm thinking about buying some, and they're not cheap. Do you think it's worth it?

Since the japanese version CONFIRMED that the numbers were 2 and 3 it won't happen.

    Ok, thanks for clarifying.

Has anyone thought that, the picture with Jace and the rocks falling around him looks like Stone Rain? I mean they do say unusual weather. I highly doubt they would use artwork from a common, but thats what it reminds me of.

I really would like this to be true, as it makes a lot of sense with the "unusual weather". Unfortunatelly, all the previous arts of Stone Rain are related to flaming meteors. Of course, they could make a different art this time, who knows?

All of the Eldrazi have a new ability called <keyword1>. Creatures with <keyword1> have a triggered ability; whenever a creature with <keyword1> attacks, the opponent must sacrifice that many permanents.

I just think this doesn't make sense at all. "That many" is usually used with a number. And attack has no number attached. Unless the name of the ability is something like: "Fear my Power X" (X is a number), that sentece doesn't make sense.

Giving a land flash would allow you to play it on your opponents turn, and I believe I'm correct in saying that you would therefore be able to play essentially 2 lands per turn (1 on yours, 1 on your opponents)?

Actually not. Even if the land had flash, it would still be impossible to play them on your opponent turn, just like it is impossible to play a land using Djinn of Wishes during an opponent turn, due to playing a land rules.

  • posted a message on [WWK] Multikicker -- Kicker That Can Be Paid Multiple Times
I think that although multikicker is very similar to X costs, if the kicker isn't a mana cost, it would be really neat. Something like "Multikicker - Return a land you control to its owner hand". Although the hint was a mechanic that allowed players to spend a lot of mana...

The biggest issue with Smother is that it doesn't stop Bloodbraid Elf .

The problem of Bloodbraid Elf isn't the Elf itself. It's the powerful hasty elf (powerful when thinking about its CMC and Cascade) + whatever spell comes with it (especially a Blightning or Sprouting Thrinax).

Argh, didn't see that sorcery clause. No, in that case it won't work. Still a 7/7 for four mana though.

Man, you can use the Ooze Garden ability during the second main phase, after you attack : )
