Feb 3, 2014FunkyDragon posted a message on Launch Giveaway!Angel of Despair may have recently been outclassed, but it will remain my favorite card - awesome art and a powerful ETB ability in colors than allow it to be recurred either by blinking or through reanimation, all stapled to a big flying body. What's not to love?Posted in: Announcements

I used to have Blight Sickle in there for the wither damage but ended up cutting it because I already had four other auto-kill equipments. Grafted Exoskeleton does offer the option of poisoning a player, but I feel like the forced sacrifice is too high a cost, especially on my general.
On the other hand, M13 has offered up a card tailor-made for this deck. He's a soldier, and he lets me play Master Warcraft in my mono-white deck. that's right, Odric, Master Tactician. With him, I can alphastrike for a kill or super-provoke everything for my general to kill. He's going in as soon as I get a copy.

The deck has several combo cards, including:
Spirit Mirror - combos with Shield of Velis Vel for a one mana, one sided wrath, with Unnatural Selection for a cheap, repeatable machine gun, or with Amoeboid Changeling to shotgun a creature each turn
Shapesharer - combos with Amoeboid Changeling, Unnatural Selection, and the like to take out target legendary creature and any other creature
Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund - combos with Shield of Velis Vel and/or Unnatural Selection for some epic theft
So, Riku started as an excuse to take one of my favorite decks (Momir Vig come-into-play abilities) and add Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker. But then I realized I could duplicate Decimate, Krosan Grip, and other powerful spells, and the deck became its own. It's proven incredibly powerful and isn't as dependent on maintaining board position as Momir Vig. This deck has quickly risen to be one of my favorites.
The deck is built around both copying spells and CIP abilities and reusing them (through recursion and bounce). It manages to maintain some control over the board state without over-committing or appearing to be overpowered.
I've tried to use cards with mostly lower CMCs to ensure I will have copy mana. The ramp allows for crazy end plays and big X-spells (copyable!).
It does contain a few infinite combos (Kiki + Pestermite/Zealous Conscripts or Palinchron + Riku/Minion Reflector), but does not rely on them for the win.
In my first build, I had some janky combos that just didn't merit their slots. For example, while it would be awesome to attack with Nacatl War-Pride and, with its token trigger on the stack, Cytoshape it into an Inferno Titan or Rishadan Brigand, the combo was too dependent on my opponent's board to be effective even if I could gather the right cards (no tutor for Cytoshape in here). So I scrapped that in favor of cards that support the rest of the deck and combo more readily.
I also had a ton of cards that I had considered but didn't have room for. Feel free to make suggestions if you think I'm missing anything.
EDIT - RIP, PrimeTime.
I had my last opponent at 10 life, but he was getting ready to combo off, and I had to kill him this turn. With a Sun Titan as my only creature (post-wrath, Titan saved by Angelic Renewal), it wasn't going to happen. So I cast Vish and copied him with Minion Reflector, allowing him to go to the 'yard, only to get snagged by Mimic Vat, which in turn made a hasty token copy that could be infinitely large thanks to the Titan/Renewal combo! If he had had any cards in hand or any untapped mana, I probably wouldn't have attempted such convoluted schenanigans, but what a crazy way to give my general haste.
Oh, and my original post had 104 cards - I cut the targeted discard (Ravenous Rats/Chittering Rats/Abyssal Horror) because they draw a disproportional amount of hate for their effect in a multiplayer game. In a duel, they would absolutely be there. Also cut Kor Skyfisher because I've got quite a few recursion abilities and couldn't think of what else to cut.
Once again, looking for suggestions if anyone has a great idea for a CIP creature that I've neglected.
EDIT: Figured I'd add one more crazy play from my third game. One player entwined a Rude Awakening with Mirari's Wake on the board. He then proceeded to swing with 18 animated 3/3 lands against a mostly open board... until I used Quicksilver Amulet to drop Sunblast Angel. Man, I love this deck.
Not sure about mail order, but I went to a local store called Boardgame Revolution and preordered all four at 25% off (this store sells everything with that kind of discount). I'll be picking them up on June 1st.
I originally wanted Vish Kal as my general, but Ghost Council actually fit the theme. Without access to U I don't have nearly as many ways to bounce, but I've still managed to load it with tons of ways to recur - either from my graveyard or the battlefield. And I have a handful of solid card that fit the colors.

The additional Sac outlets are mostly to abuse things life Faceless Butcher, Fiend Hunter, and Leonin Reli-Warder (permanent exile), but also to throw things in my 'yard so I can recur them again. I originally planned to have even more (like Phyrexian Altar), but there wasn't enough room. And the ninjas, in addition to being fun cards, allow me to recast a creature with a CIP ability.
If you have any suggestions for additions, let me know, but I'll also want a suggestion for what to cut in it's place.
Oblivion Stone + Darksteel Forge works just fine for me - nuke the opponents' boards once while protecting mine and move on. What you're talking about is an unfun lockout move that I've been on the receiving of before. Not that I don't have infinite combos, and not that Larry Niven's Disk won't necessarily make it in eventually, just I don't want to be that guy at the current moment.
