Feb 3, 2014FunkyDragon posted a message on Launch Giveaway!Angel of Despair may have recently been outclassed, but it will remain my favorite card - awesome art and a powerful ETB ability in colors than allow it to be recurred either by blinking or through reanimation, all stapled to a big flying body. What's not to love?Posted in: Announcements

I'm not entirely sold on all of these changes, but I want to give them a try. Chromeshell Crab is one of the weaker ones, but I've had a few creature-based decks shut down recently by Peacekeeper and Blazing Archon - he gives me a way to deal with them and is a morph to boot. I will miss Mimic Vat, but I didn't want to drop my creature count or my colored mana producers. besides, I have another deck for it.
I actually have no issues with the color identity rule. I find it to be logical and simple.
Devoid is not the same thing as true colorless - the ablity makes the card colorless, but it still has a specific mana cost granting it a color identity and cannot be cast by paying its mana cost in an off-color deck because those decks are incapable of producing mana not in their general's color identity. Even in non-Commander games, you still have to produce black or red for the so-called "colorless" creature.

On the plus side, I have been looking for a copy of It That Betrays, and with the duel deck reprint, it should drop a little in price.
Unfortunately, some theft cards are too weak if you don't have Marchesa out, and others are too expensive even if you do, so I filled in with other cards that work well with her. I've had some good games (over-powered, nigh unstoppable) and some bad games (she does draw a lot of hate), but oddly enough, I still haven't had any games where the deck does what it is supposed to - steal lots of things. To that end, I am looking for suggestions.

Here are some of the all-stars:
(and several of these are so good that the opponent will pay the 3 life, but we have ways to get them back)
Blood Artist - He makes Athreos even better, guaranteeing that the opponent takes damage whether they choose to give you back your creatures or not.
Crypt Rats - A handy little board wipe on a stick, especially fun with Touch of Moonglove.
Suture Priest - Life loss for them, life gain for us.
Rally the Ancestors and Wake the Dead - instant speed mass-reanimation is awesome. And in Tiny Leaders, Rally never costs more than 3WW. Just make sure to sac before Rally's exile clause kicks in. I won one game against a Rune-Tail lifegain deck by saccing all of my creatures with Blood Artist on the field (and my opponent paid to keep them from coming back), reanimating them all with Rally, and doing it all over again.
I'll be increasing the morph count with Zoetic Cavern, Chromeshell Crab, and Hooded Hydra as soon as I figure out what to cut. And I really want to find a copy of Rattleclaw Mystic.
Doran, the Siege Tower has always interested me, but I didn't want to just go one of the traditional routes (big butts, tribal treefolk, or voltron). I realized that the reason I like Doran is because HE CHANGES THE RULES OF THE GAME. If he was a 5/5 for 3, I wouldn't even look at him. But being able to turn the rules on their head and affect the game is awesome. I am currently gathering cards for a deck built on that premise and welcome suggestions. The problem is, it's hard to do a search for "cards that affect how the game is played."
- Cards that change the game in some way
- Cards that help me, not my opponent
- Cards that synergize with Doran
The more categories the card fits, the more likely I am to run it. We're really aiming for the sweet spot in the center. Here's some examples:
All of those examples sit right in the sweet spot. Obviously, not every card can, so I will include cards that only perform two of the three.
What I do not want:
- Group hug, group slug, stax, or generic hate-bears (I want to keep it different from my Captain Sisay deck)

I know he's good - but I actually needed him for a different deck that I'm building. We'll see if I can get another copy.
That's awesome. I have to say that this deck is often target number one even before I get planeswalkers out. Trying to keep planeswalkers alive is a very much uphill battle, but that makes even more satisfying when you pull off a win.
1 Lord of the Void
1 Molten Slagheap
1 Bloodgift Demon
1 Homeward Path
Bloodgift is cheaper and gives me more cards or burn someone who is really low on life. Path keeps my creatures on my side of the board, which has become a problem recently.
