Feb 3, 2014FunkyDragon posted a message on Launch Giveaway!Angel of Despair may have recently been outclassed, but it will remain my favorite card - awesome art and a powerful ETB ability in colors than allow it to be recurred either by blinking or through reanimation, all stapled to a big flying body. What's not to love?Posted in: Announcements

Piston Sledge - someone else had suggested it, I'm seconding it
Out:
Cabal Archon, Deadwood Treefolk, Lord of Extinction, Sapling of Colfenor
In:
Birthing Pod, Bloodghast, Perilous Forays, Sheoldred, Whispering One
I've increased my sac outlets and recursion, added a fun little mana ramp combo, and have yet another forced sac backup. Not a bad bit of retooling.
Out: Chromatic Sphere, Ferropede, Myr Matrix (although I regret that last one and may put it back in)
In: Energy Chamber, Lodestone Golem, Darksteel Forge
I also cut the one shot, sorcery speed Final Punishment that only triggers on damage dealt and replaced it with a permanent, repeatable Wound Reflection that triggers on all life lost, damage or otherwise.
I am trying to add some extra wincons because I do agree that just burn will not usually work. I think Grave Titan would be great because it's a big beater that masses out tokens to get around my own sac effects. The planeswalkers would clearly help. Angry? Apples! mentioned Sheoldred, who I had considered but decided I didn't have enough creatures to recur with her (though comboing with Fleshbag Marauder would be funny) and I may be forced to sac her. The titans seem expensive mana-wise for a creature that I will likely have to sacrifice before I can even swing. As for budget, it not a matter of what I can put in, but what I'm willing to - I have a hard time justifying $20 pieces of paper that aren't $20 bills, especially when I can kill $85 Jace with a five cent common and I've beat decks worth 200 times the value of my own ($20 merfolk deck vs $4000 power nine deck - good times).
As for changing the general, I could. Sheoldred would be my most likely choice. And I may after more playtesting. Wouldn't be the first time I demoted a general. At the same time, this is like the 14th EDH deck I've built (I haven't even put them all in my sig) - I get bored easily and like to switch up my strategy. I wanted to see if this was a viable strategy. I'm going to have to play several more times before I make up my mind. In the meantime, thanks for the critique, and keep it coming.
Out:
Festering March, Incremental Blight, Planeswalker's Scorn
In:
Beseech the Queen, Phyrexian Arena, Profane Command
I disagree on the deck not having any way to kill other than combo - there are quite a few burn/life loss cards in there (granted, the combos are the main way). The game I played, I burned out all three of my opponents with Underworld Dreams, Sorin's Vengeance, Profane Command (I had thrown it in right before the match), and of all things, a Smallpox for the final one damage to one player. That being said, obviously the deck would benefit from cards like Sorin Markov and Liliana Vess. They're both on my wanted list. And I can't wait to see Liliana's new card in Innistrad.
Out:
Weatherseed Totem, Cranial Plating, Darksteel Axe, Grim Poppet
In:
Arcbound Reclaimer, Junk Diver, Quietus Spike, Contagion Engine
Still looking for new shiny toys, so feel free to make suggestions. Especially if they make for fun, janky combos. Just remember I am trying to keep it fairly colorless.

This is just the first build, and I have several cards that I will add once I have them: Cabal Coffers, Gate to Phyrexia, Grave Titan, Liliana Vess, Sorin Markov
Other cards I'm considering: Night of Souls' Betrayal, Nihil Spellbomb.
Some of the powerful Combos in the deck:
Bloodchief Ascension + Mindcrank
Braids, Cabal Minion + Spine of Ish Sah
Contamination + Reassembling Skeletons
Spreading Plague + Sarpadian Empires, Vol. VII
Black Market + Death Cloud
Any other suggestions? (keep them cheap)
Sunblast Angel I like. You only 2-for-1 yourself if all you kill on the opponents' sides is a single creature. On the other hand, if you're facing down four opponents with 5-6 creatures each, I'd make the trade. Truth is, I don't plan to cheat her in. But I see her better than a wrath (which would also kill my general and anything else I have in play) because I can untap, drop or reanimate Sunblast, wipe out many of my opponents' creatures, and then swing away without being hurt myself. It seems like every time someone objects to this card, they assume I'll blindly cheat it in and kill my general. It's a good card as long as you use discretion about when to play it.
Malfegor - I may cut him but wanted to give it a try first. I've had to face down a lot of indestructible creatures lately and would have gladly discarded the cards that were useless in my hand to destroy them.
Molten Disaster - no more out of place than Earthquake - I probably won't have to worry much about anyone over-powering me in the air, but I could get rushed on the ground. I wanted something to mop up ground creatures and that couldn't be countered.
As for having too much dependency on my general, I agree the current list does. I'm working on getting in more ramp in there. There's just too many toys that I want to put in, and I'm having trouble trimming down. I'll get there once I complete the build.
Cool concept (and man, would I love a little snow right now), but I keep going back to the bright patch of sunlight on her neck that is apparently being generated within a thick cloak. It might look more natural if the neck was in shadow, too.
I hope I didn't make it seem like I don't appreciate your efforts. I do. I'm just trying to build something different from the other Kaalia decks. Maybe my play group is less cutthroat than most. I just stripped down one EDH deck because it ran a dozen mass removal cards, multiple spot removals, and infinite combos that could knock everyone out. No one had fun playing against it, and I didn't have as much fun playing it. It was too predictable. Wrath, tutor, wrath, wrath, tutor, wrath, win. I also stripped down another because every game was the same - tutor up my combo, lock everyone's lands into islands, prevent them from playing things, win. After a while, people start to hate playing against me. So I'm trying to make the game more fun for all involved. If anyone did start cracking turn 3 titans, you can bet I would adjust my decks' power levels accordingly. Our group just seems to reserve the cutthroat stuff for constructed 60-card and let the hundred card singleton be a way of relaxing. So, no, my stuff isn't better. It just fits the theme and my playgroup better.
