I read the frontpage and there it stated Fork and Blood Hand as cards that are good for burn. So it's outdated huh? what should i replace them with? MB sweepers and put Fork and Blood Hand in the SB for combo decks?
Also, i am thinking of replacing Flame Rift with Char, what do you think?
The point is that Fork is a terrible topdeck and works best with Fireblast. FotBH costs three; the only thing people would say is a legit 3-cost, 4-damage card is Flame Javelin because it can target a creature and evades Counterbalance. Char is much worse.
Chain of Plasma turns their spot removal into bolts. That's a net loss. Incinerate is sort of a better alternative...but most people stay away from it because 3 for 2 is not that great.
What do you expect to play? I think Volcanic Fallout is a must-include in any burn deck these days; you can hammer Merfolk and stop Elves/Goblins early. The problem is that Zoo is the deck to beat....VF does little to it, and you don't run Price of Progress.
Burn has gravitated toward a few permanents to stop severe threats. Many/most people run Keldon Marauders: He's either five damage for two, two damage and kills a Nacatl, two damage and prevents a Goyf/KotR strike, or....2 damage and at least nets you another land when he's Pathed.
Sulfuric Vortex helps with control. Either it eats a Pridemage (hooray no more Exalted!) or Zealot, eats a counterspell, or sticks around long enough to be a Char or Flame Rift. Maybe more.
Most of us run Magma Jet because it can kill a small creature (Lord? Lackey?) and Scry is the best red has competitively for drawing.
I mean, I don't want to discourage you entirely, but gung-ho, shot-to-the-face instants/sorceries can only get you so far. Your three-cost and self-damaging spells should be your sweepers. Aggro races us these days. Pretty well.
The card adds nothing. If you want deck advice, read the first page. Fork and Blood Hand are outdated, and Zoo is guaranteed to win Game 1....probably even if you have GODHAND. I don't want to seem like a d1ck, but the deck doesn't seem well-rounded enough for a somewhat developed metagame (unless you don't anticipate one).
has any one considerd skred and 17-19 snow covered mountians besides turn one its a shock turn 2 a bolt 3 and a fireblast on 4 it has great potential to do some serious damage in the late game aswell if it gets that far(my meta is all counterwars basicaly)
If we're using something to stop creatures, we need a broader card, able to hinder all attacking creatures....or we stick with one of our bolts/sweepers.
On the topic of card draw in Merfolk, any chance cards like Saprazzan Heir gets played outside of casual?
Nah. A 2cc creature that's a 1/1...they'll just block to kill it (like breaking a Standstill) or let it through because it's so weak. Easily bolted. Maybe if she had shroud, but we've discussed before how little she actually adds to the team.
Seahunter is right out, too.
At one time I liked Rootwater Thief, but it's mana-intensive, and I'm not sure how much the ability helps us. Mostly I just like that block.
If you saw my last post on the source then you would see that Dreadnought is coming out of my deck and being replaced with the standard 3 Wake Thrasher in its place. I am no debating whether Stifle should remain in the deck or if I should go the 2 Echoing Truth/2 Jitte route. If Stifle remains in the deck then it will be cut to 3 and another lands will replace one.
Basically I have to decide between Sovereign, Stifle, and Truth. Those are the only slots that we can really play with, right? (besides running 4/3, 3/4, or 4/4 Vault/Wastland)
I have 3 Threads of Disloyalty and 3 Hydroblast in my SB with a single Kira in my MD.
// Sideboard
SB: 3 [BOK] Threads of Disloyalty
SB: 3 [5E] Hydroblast
SB: 2 [ZEN] Mindbreak Trap
SB: 3 [DS] Echoing Truth
SB: 4 [ALA] Relic of Progenitus
I had Back to Basics in my sideboard, but I decided to take them out for Echoing Truth. Back to basics is only good vs Threshold and 40 land decks. Echoing truth has been very helpful to me in many situations. I havn't done too much extensive testing, but I'll be taking Merfolk to all my 5Ks.
What do you have MD instead of Echoing Truth? (I just always felt it did too much against so many decks that I have to keep it in.)
What advantage does Kira offer us in the maindeck, and what don't you use instead? I'm thinking of getting rid of Sovereign. I've expressed this sentiment before: I have issues playing something with UU relevantly early because I like to have some blue around in case I need to Truth or Stifle something.
I think I asked it before, but I still have no clue why, if you have Kira out, and someone Wastelands a Mutavault, you cannot turn the Mutavault into a creature to save it. Has it already been targetted, so the ability won't trigger?
has runeflare trap been considered for the sideboard because i have won several games off of my sidedecked copies against elf combo and standstill etcetera...
So, here's my question/hypothetical: You're facing ANT, and they use Brainstorm first (for whatever reason). Then they Ad Nauseam. Their hand is huge. They could cast any spell, and you respond with Runeflare. NOW, my question is: When does the Trap check the number of cards?
We should assume the ANT guy responds by playing out all the rituals and other instant-speed cards in his hand. I mean, we would not get a win out of that, right? It checks when the spell resolves (and likely the ANT guy would have countered it anyway, right?)?
I love what that card does against combo elves, but I thought we're just supposed to play through a Standstill? I just want to know what else it combats that it warrants removing some other card in the sideboard. Hell, my SB is full, and I don't even have Pithing Needles yet.
Why do I see so many Merfolk decks running Relic over Crypt? Against Goyf?
Also, do you guys ever sideboard in the GY hate against decks that use the graveyard a bit (like Eva Green) or just against those that use it extensively (Ichorid or Aggro Loam)?
With the release of abyssal persecutor and the vamps from zendikar, I've been thinking of a vampire list in eva green. Here's what i'm thinking for the list.
What does everybody think of the new plains merfolk?
Jump back a page or two. It's difficult to figure out what to cut...and then you have to boost your budget while opening yourself up to MORE non-basic hate.

Thrasher is standard?

If they know we want to draw...they'll choose burn.
I've heard Llawan works wonders, but I haven't played the mirror match before.

You may want Diabolic Edict for your Persecutor....instant speed is always nice.
