I've seen plenty of degenerate things with Darevi, Yidris(SP?) - the cascade on combat damage, Mereke, Oloro, and Zur are the ones that immediately pop to mind.
They did make NWO to simplify commons and make it easier for new players. It also made commons linear and screwed over pauper without legacy cards to pick up the slack. Proof? Go look at deck lists for pauper and count how many of the cards in pauper are from post NWO and what cards actually make the decks run.
Delver - post NWO common
Gearseeker Serpent - post NWO common with AFFINITY
Galvanic Blast - post NWO common
Sea Gate Oracle - post NWO common
Expedition Map - post NWO common
Ancient Stirrings - post NWO common
Nivix Cyclops/Kiln Fiend - post NWO commons
Gitaxian Probe - post NWO common
NWO is about -limiting- complexity at common, not removing it completely. And saying that NWO has crippled pauper, if you really want, I can keep listing key cards that are from the initiation of NWO to refute that claim.
That actually makes sense, I always think of it being in terms of splashy, build-around, and efficiency for the three player types, myself, when trying to boil them down to an essence.
I haven't been active on here for a while, but I wanted to point out something that I noticed in the recent scorings for appeal that have me fairly concerned. The player archetypes of Timmy Johnny and Spike are being evaluated as the stereotypical and simplified versions of them. Timmy is not simply "big creatures," but rather doing -stuff- even if usually on a large scale.
Johnny is not only combo, but rather finding ways to use a card that aren't immediately apparent. Combo is actually a mix of Johnny with the other two, either for efficiency or for effects.
It may be silly, but as a Timmy and Johnny combination, myself, that oversimplification bothers me, especially when such large point amounts are being removed for a different dash type or other tiny things.
Blinding Heretic WW
Creature - Human Cleric (U)

When Blinding Heretic enters the battlefield, remove target attacking or blocking creature from combat. The dazzling display is often considered harmless by the unitiated masses.

Please feel free to continue this. Something happened a couple weeks ago that nearly ruined the entire game of Magic for me, and I'm still trying to get it worked out/past it.
The way it's worded I'd say it doesn't matter if it's monocolored or not, so long as none of them are colorless.
Also, the way it's worded I could make a cycle of Tribal Instant - Weasel
Oculus is correct. I do try to get specific enough that if it was monocolored I would have said so. While I figured monocolored would be the default, no reason to not have shard, wedge, hybrid, or ally or enemy paired cards for the cycle.
As far as the noncreature card with new subtype, it was for the purpose of not making new creature types
Welcome to the first season of MTG Salvation Design Idol 2012! Who will it be this season? Only time and your votes will tell
The rules.
1: Have Fun!!! 2: Each round, except round 1 (signup round), will have a theme, and the contestants will design cards to match that theme. 3. Players may submit a new, original card, or any card[s] they have created, so long as they are the players own original design and the card[s] meet the challenge requirements. Last word on meeting these requirements and any penalties is up to the hosts. 4: Each round will have 4 days to submit cards and 3 days to to vote for the cards. 5: Judging is only done by poll and the player with the lowest number of votes will be eliminated. Voting will be public and open to the general public. You may vote for as many, or as few cards as you like (including yourself if you want). The host(s) have final say on the validity of a vote in the case of questionable votes. 6: Any player that doesn't submit a card for any reason will be eliminated. 7: If a player submits a card or cards that does not meet the challenge requirements, that player may receive a DQ and be eliminated. If possible, the player in question will be notified to try and correct the problem before the end of the round. If the mistake is not corrected or is not caught until after the voting has begun, then the hosts will decide if a DQ will be assigned. 8: If there's a tie for the lowest vote total, all those people get to stay in the game but they get a next to their name. Anybody who already had a :symb:, however, is out. Players that get a will keep it until he or she is eliminated or we reach the Top 7 bracket. Anybody with three or less votes in a single round will also receive a :symb:. Similar rules apply. 9: The game will continue until we have a single champion... our Design Idol. 10: If the winner of the last Design Idol returns to defend his or her title (he or she must now sign-up like everyone else), he or she will earn a beside his or her name. This means if he or she would earn a for a round, the falls off instead. Or, if that player would face single elimination, the will convert into a :symb:. If the goes unused by the time we reach the Top 7 Bracket, it will fall off. 11: The Top 4 of the last Design Idol get the right to "shotgun" a place on the new season. The same is true for hosts, only they get shotgun rights for two seasons. (So any hosts of Season VI can shotgun in VII and VIII). They still have to create a card for the first round, however.(Due to the long break between rounds, the shotgun rule is suspended for the start of this iteration of the contest.)
Out of the submissions of -only- the 4-color cards, the only one that "felt" right to me, and wasn't convoluted, was Oculus' card.
That means, as well, that Eventide's journey with this seasons is done with the low vote total this round.
Challenge for Round 8:
Create a 5-card, colored, noncreature cycle with a new subtype.
Submissions will close at 11:59PM EST on Friday, September 7, 2012.

Cypher28 had the low vote total for the round, which means elimination. Better luck next time!
Challenge for Round 7:
Pick a color, design 3 cards.
Card 1: A shard colored card with your color as the core, any card type.
Card 2: A wedge card with your color as the core, any card type besides the type used for card 1.
Card 3: Either try a 4-color card -without- your color of any type, and get a chance at bonus points; or a mono-color card (chosen color) of a type that was not used for cards 1 or 2.
Bonus points will be up to my discretion on concept and execution. Templating does factor into it for me (general card wording, not specifically forum formatting).
Submissions will close at 11:59PM EST on Thursday, August 30, 2012.
