As far as the Heartstone and LoL discussion goes, the free to play model is simple. You can buy anything, but if you grind long enough everything is available to you for free. Sometimes cosmetic items like skins, or hats in TF2 aren't, but they're like a foil card - you don't need them to be competitive.

I'm not surprised that people who have sunk thousands into the hobby don't want a major price drop. But those of us who haven't are obviously going to feel differently. When I see a 200$ Tarmogoyf, all I see is a ridiculously priced piece of cardboard. Even from a gameplay standpoint its not particularly interesting. Its simply breaks the cost effectiveness standards in Magic thereby giving an unfair advantage. 800$ for a playset? Three iPhones worth of cardboard? Seriously?

As far as rare lands are concerned, they are the most boring cards in magic. Have you ever seen a new player excited to get a fetch from a pack? No, and you never will. They think its junk and want an 8/8 Angel instead. That's how exciting those cards are. But it turns out you can't build a dependable 2 or more color deck without them so all of a sudden its several hundreds of dollars you have to invest in something you don't care about just to enable you to enjoy deck building on a competitive level.

This whole statement is why Modern Masters is not for you...new players. The set was created to provide "newer" players access to older, Modern legal cards so spark additional interest in the format. This set is not for new players just starting out. For a player interested in playing this format competitively, opening a land that's currently retainling for $50+ is exciting...because I just paid $10 for it...and I got playable commons and uncommons I may not have had. If you don't find value in opening a $10 booster that may contain a card that retails for over $50...that was somewhat unattainable for you financially until the set's release...then leave them for players who really want to pursue the format and step out of the thread.

As for Bob....I don't think he'll be in this set. His use is very underwhelming in the current format meta. I would be very disappointed to see him reprinted in MM15.

No problem. I saw it and thought I remembered it being banned due to the fact of it making games take longer. Had to double check to make sure my memory was still good.

What about the insufferable shuffling of Fetches? Oh god, and now we're going to get flooded with Zen fetches too...

    On no!!! SHUFFLING!!

I have a hard time believing that Zen fetches will be in this set, but if they are it would better explain the booster price hike. It would also ensure that this set would sell out faster than anything Magic has put out.

You see...the fact here is that this will retain a good bit of value. Even if it isn't found in Mardu or Abzan decks it will remain a high dollar card. Casual appeal means a lot to card value, I would think by now you would've realized that. This card will thrive in EDH decks too. Aren't we talking about a Standard Legal card's dollar value?

And you've got me all wrong. I don't have issue with netdecking, and I certainly don't have a problem with a kid beating me with something he read about the night before....after all this is just a game right? You need to realize that I've been in this game longer than you've been walking and I've seen the ebbs and flows of card valuation. No, I didn't tell everyone to go all in on anything. As a matter of fact, I told of my friends that they shouldn't go all in on anything in the new set because it will be opened so massively that nothing could retain its start value. I advised my friends, and they advised me to trade smart and only buy at inflated prices if you can't find what you need, but need to have it now. The only card I missed out on recently was Goblin Rabblemaster...but for some reason I lucked out in prize packs and opened all I have.

Ugin is a big flashy planeswalker. That alone has sexiness written all over it. And for that reason, I think this planeswalker will stay above the $20 mark for a good while.

Yes, let's all just be quiet until the pros show us what cards are good or bad. I don't claim to be 100% right on card evaluations, but I'm taking a position on something. So what? How can you ever "prove" that a card is good or sucks? Especially in this standard, when the hot card is just the flavor of the week. Especially since I never see you post anything. How about you throw some opinions out there once in a while? Or would you prefer a dead forum?

I will say that if they print an Unburial Rites for Planeswalkers (as in playable and not Obzedats Aid) or if they allow ultra colorless ramp into the format, Ugin will see play. Otherwise, no...there are too many standard decks that already exist that would eat his lunch.

OK, so here you go. While the card is a bit costly for "tier one" standard decks, it can still come into play turn 5 and dominate the board once there. With mana accelerators like Nissa, Worldwaker and Xenagos, the Reveler it could be one more chip in R/G Monsters hat. It could even see it's way into Temur midrange decks as a finisher. Mana dorks help power this into play faster. This may also prompt a resurgence of U/x control builds to hold off a card of this magnitude. The fact he's colorless makes the likelihood of him seeing play a bit greater....but I just can't count him out of the meta because he's costly. Elspeth is 6cc and she's in nearly every white deck out there.

I don't care if a "pro" makes this card work or not. I don't gauge my decks on what the pros put together. I've played RUG to victory for longer than Kibler's been taking about it and I'll guide my next deck without their "mastery and insight". Additionally, we shouldn't be completely trashing this card before we've seen what Fate has to offer to the meta.

Quacker, your new card evaluations are always off the mark. Please just stop posting on new cards all together. You should only post your opinion when it's proven as fact a card is good or sucks.
Please stay on topic & cool it with the flaming ~Duxx

If you don't have any bids on them yet you can go back and put Buy it Now prices on them I think. Make those reasonable and you may get them out before the GP.

well.. the pro tour is not the meta..

    This a million times over!

    States
    Weekly IQs
    SCG Opens

Those are the meta. They change and develop on a weekly basis. The Pro Tour is an indication of what a bunch of pros have deemed will beat a bunch of pros. Even further evidence you have no idea what you're talking about when you spew your opinions on these boards.

Is it just me, or is it crazy a card like Sagu Mauler is considered nearly bulk material? I mean, a 6/6 for 6 with only 2 colors to devote to, with Trample and Hexproof that can also Morph and pop for just 5... I guess it just does not have a home, and UG isn't popular now, or it just cannot support a card like this? All I know is if I can scrape up some money I intend to buy some up, and so far R_E you have the best price on them from people I do business with, but even my local shop only has them at $2.50/each. I'm still looking at it and wondering when it will pop, or if it is one of those fatties that just fades into the background.

The problem is it's Simic and Simic are the worst 2 color combo. They have no removal and no direct damage between them.

The best part about it is morph gets under a Disdainful Stroke. If you're on the play against control they can't get a Dissolve up before you can play it.

Sultai and Temur haven't proven to be playable clans yet leaving it a bit stranded without a deck. It could still prove to be good.

I really wish you would do your homework before you speak! Temur has been proven to be a good deck. There are several decks out there showing well on a weekly basis. You should go through the states lists...you'll see Temur Planeswalkers, Temur Monsters, Temur Midrange. I'm pretty convinced you're speaking pure opinion when you comment on things. I think you only sit a read the online dailies and you take that as "the format" and run with it. Sagu Mauler is currently running as a 2 of in some mains, but mostly sideboards.

Wrathberry....City is $3 because it's been printed in more than 5 seperate sets!! Come on man...do the math!! If Confluence is reprinted in M16 and another large release set it'll drop like a stone! If city was standard legal it would go up in price.

Here's the deal though....Arbor Colossus is a large creature that battles against other large creatures and kills one specific target....ONCE. Doomwake Giant is a large creature with recurring ability that triggers over and over again, sometimes multiple times in a turn, and kills multiple targets as a result. It is also very strong against one of the more hyped cards, Goblin Rabblemaster. Not only does it kill the goblins that card makes, but it could potentially kill the Rabblemaster on the same turn. Since Rabblemaster decks are all the rage right now, Doomwake Giant is a potential answer in another tier 1/1.5 deck in the rotation. The Colossus doesn't have that range. Yes, it's a card played in a number of sideboards in a few different decks out there in the circuit, but it does essentially nothing against the best creature in standard right now. If more fliers are found to be taking over the format, then I believe your investment will pan out for you. Until then....I believe there are better cards out there for you to place your bets on.

Control is going to find a way....you should look in that direction right now....

Seriously dude....you've been talking about Arbor Colossus for 5 posts now. If you think that it will gain in price, then stop talking about it and buy up the whole lot of them at $.40 ea. Then, when you make your millions on the price hike of a large green sideboard fatty that blocks and kills fliers....you can laugh at all of us fo not listening to you. In the meantime....move on with the conversations. There are other cards that are actually moving and gaining in the standard format and your pulling everyone back to your colossus talk with every post you make.

Stagnation does not allow for cards to gain.

I think just blocking it and not dying to his minus ability is pretty good. It's also one of the few cards that stonewalls Butcher of the Horde.

What kind of situation do you guys think is necessary for it to go up? I don't think it's really on anyone's radar at the moment and even if it's in a winning green devotion deck in the pro tour I don't think anyone will view it as a breakout card because it's been showing up in lists since rotation.

Exactly what I was saying. Nowadays, Arbor Colossus rarely, if ever does his monstrous to kill a flier. However, just the threat of it and being able to play defense is very important. I could be wrong. These are just my small speculations that I actually don't care much about (from a spec viewpoint).

Even small speculations can make some profit. I mean even if it starts buylisting at $1, you'd gain almost $20 from your playsets. Enough for a fetch, or maybe two in a few weeks/months.

I'm just starting to get into some small specs, and just to restate what I said, the main thing I'm worried about with Arbor Colossus is that there is 0 hype. Basically a ton of people are waiting with their fingers on the trigger on stuff like Doomwake Giant, Daring Thief, etc. but I'm betting that any Green Devotion deck that top 8s is probably running 3-4 Arbor Colossus side and main and I'm worried that even if Green Devotion destroys the PT they won't even budge since no one is looking at them.

The ceiling is just too low. Can go from $1 to $2.50. Just not going to be a huge gainer.

Now Hornet Queen, that's a huge gainer. Up from bulk to $5 in a few days.

If it ever gets up to $2.50 that's an insane gain of over 800% from current prices OMG

Mana Confluence is slightly better in certainly legacy situations because it doesn't hurt if it's targeted by {card]Rishadan Port[/card]. City of Brass hurts every time it's tapped. This is one of the factors for a higher price. Another factor is that it has a smaller print run than City of Brass. The third factor is that it's currently in standard and is a driving force in many of the three color decks surfing the tops of the leader boards.

All of these factors play into the reasons why Confluence is currently valued higher. It should remain higher than CoB for the forseeable future as well.
