karakas posted a message on So, Conspiracy...Posted in: Market Street CaféQuote from rancored_elf »Like I said, those who don't get it will shout "Go Wizards!", dismissing the legitimate concerns of the minority who understand. That's by design - they know most of their playerbase isn't all that informed - and this will continue.
If you clapping fanboys would stop to think for a minute, you'd probably realize that you could take your position all the way if you really believe in it. Instead of dribbling and gushing every time Wizards prints out five cents worth of product and charges you $50 for it, push them to allow proxies. Then we can ALL have unlimited amounts of every card we want, for pennies. There will be no secondary market, no cards will have any value at all, not even chase mythics from sets with low print runs. But no, you won't do that. You'll just wait for them to make you "official" proxies from THEIR printers, and charge you thousands of times what it costs. Because, as you'll point out, they aren't doing anything illegal, and therefore, it is automatically moral, healthy for the game, and doesn't damage the secondary market.
Riiiiight.
Just about any position can be "taken all the way" to make it look ridiculous. I could donate $50 to charity, and you could say, "Why don't you donate ALL your money to charity? Then you could live in a cardboard box!" Or I could move my daughter's bedtime up by 30 minutes, and you could say, "Why don't you put her to bed at 8:30 in the morning? Then she'd barely ever be awake at all!"
Wizards has created the IP and spent 20 years developing it, protecting it, and building their brand. So they get to control what gets printed, reprinted and what counts as sanctioned - and if they make a lot of money off that, they've earned it. That's how businesses work. If they send the game crashing to oblivion and lose everything, that's on them too. But Wizards has shown for a long time now that they know how to run a profitable business and keep this game going as strong as ever... of course, you and the "minority who understand" obviously see the writing on the wall and know exactly what the landscape of Magic is going to look like 3 years, 5 years, 10 years from now. And it must look pretty grim, for you to be so up in arms. But at least you'll keep "making out like a bandit" with all your incredible foresight while it happens. I swear, the elitism in this thread is just staggering. -

S.M. posted a message on [[Official]] Legacy Huge GainersDon't worry when SCG is done each of the duals will be overpriced very soon, it takes steps in their path of destruction.Posted in: Market Street Café Archive
Stage 1. Jack Seas to highs and watch them set until other mammals jack their ups (regardless of how many are online or in their stock/'s), they did catch up didn't they.
Stage 2. Try to make others forget they jacked up seas (right), now Volcanic's need to be closer (regardless of how many are online and in their stock/'s).
Rise and repeat (this is a trend which has been set, rolled and completed since Underground Sea was $100).
Track record says...don't worry, in time all well be tainted.
S.M.
Quote from Richard ArschmannTundra at $150 makes no sense when Volcanic is $220 and Sea is $230. Tundra is essential to the UW strategies that are so common in Legacy these days. Expect a price correction to a minimum of $200 by the end of the month.

Quacker posted a message on Liquidating ModernPosted in: Market Street CaféQuote from justintanasI'm in a similar boat. I have about $4000-5000 worth of modern stuff (according to SCG). I could really use some cash for a backpacking trip to Europe that I'm taking in the coming autumn but I don't want to sell out if prices are still going to soar. Perhaps the fact that selling the cards will lead me to be more productive with my time should also be considered. Man, I really just don't know what to do.
Screw Magic. Go to Europe. -

Mr. Smiley posted a message on Faeries, faeries, FAERIES!Posted in: Market Street CaféIs Faerie Conclave too weak to see Modern play?
I'd say yes; coming into play tapped hurts it a lot. Mutavault is more likely, for those 'need an extra fae (for spellstutter or something else)' kind of situations; Mutavault also transforms for 1 instead of U1, which helps too. -

jeffbcrandall posted a message on Where did Market Street Cafe go?Unfortunately with the market street café being awol at the moment, I'm in the unfortunate position of having rather little to do on this site. The market street was THE place for myself and others on the site, and having it gone, then appear briefly and then poof again is rather frustrating to say the least. Could we at least get a definitive timeline for when market street café will be returning and staying so I know when I should be checking for it? (And forgive my grumpiness as its early and it still being gone isn't helping my mood ...., but as some others have questioned ... was this changeover the morning after the prerelease weekend/(banned/restricted announcement), really the wisest time to be moving over the site?) For those of us that call market street café our home on this site, these times of years are THE times that we have the most to talk about, where we have the most movement in the market. While I'm sure this is only a temporary situation, at least for now its the cause of a great deal of frustration and I hope we will hear soon when we should expect to see market street café back up and running again.Posted in: Forum Software Feedback and Bug Reports -

CharlieD posted a message on They |Called| & their NIPPLES did the dialing!!Had a fun weekend at GP Brisbane. Went 0-3 drop in the Legacy event, which was disappointing, but I picked up some Natural Orders to make NO Bant so that should be fun to try out. Then I played the Australian Highlander event and went 1-2-1 drop so I could have a beer or two before Day 1.Posted in: Retired Clan Threads
On Day 1 I started shaky, losing round 1 to Storm. Round 2 I beat Storm, round 3 I beat Merfolk. I was feeling pretty good until I lost of Jund in round 4 (Affinity can't beat turn 2 Stony Silence) and that put me on the bubble. Beat a weird (but awesome) Jund-coloured Landfall deck with Bloodghasts and Vengevines in round 5, then stomped U-Tron in round 6. 4-2 going into round 7, I find myself up against American Control, my absolute worst WORST matchup. He crushes me game one, game two is long and grindy as I resolve a Blood Moon and he can't deal with it. Game three goes to time, and is a draw - After a tense five minutes I concede to him because I wanted to leave and get drunk and I wanted to play vintage the next day. He ended up making day 2, and coming 35th overall.
In the vintage event, playing Dark Times, I crush Reanimator round 1, lose to Oath Tendrils round 2, beat Dredge pretty easily round 3 (4 Leyline of the Void maindeck is pretty good), then juuust lose to Tinker round 4, and the top 8 is already decided pretty much (4 people on 10 points, 4 people on 9 points, oh well). I play round 5 and crush another reanimator deck. I think my favourite play against him was
Him: Badlands, pass turn.
Me: Draw (my hand is now Swamp, Bob, Bob, Liliana, Dark Rit, Dark Rit, Demonic Consultation - I mulled to 6), Swamp, Dark Rit, Dark Rit, Demonic Consultation.
Him: In response, Entomb Griselbrand.
Me: Naming Faerie Macabre.
I hit it after only about four or five exiles, wipe his graveyard, then proceed to drop two Bobs on turn 1 and pass.
All in all a super fun weekend. -

The Reserved list was looked at a few years back and Wizards attempted to get rid of it, but there was such an outcry from the vintage and collectible crowd that it was axed pretty quickly. They were attempting to reprint Reserved List cards in premium format and the crying was so bad they upheld the List and dropped the idea. Players want the Reserved List gone, but MTGFinance is a very strong and vocal group that will do what it can to hold on to their investment.
