Legacy and Vintage are not; in those formats, every card WotC has ever released is fair game for those formats, so long as the format doesn't ban it and it's a genuine black- or white-bordered card, with standard back (or INN-block double-face), non-square corners, and not damaged in a way that would make it marked.

This is incorrect, as I've explained before. If Conspiracy cards were purple-border, they would be by default Legacy and Vintage legal. Border color is only relevant for TOURNAMENT legality, not FORMAT legality.

    Thus the fact that Dack Fayden is a black-bordered card is what "counts";

Also incorrect. The new Conspiracy card type is black-bordered, but will not be Legacy and Vintage legal. The border color does NOT "count" in any way. It would be just as accurate to say "Dack Fayden is black-bordered, so it's Modern legal" when in fact it is not.

the gold borders (and non-standard corners/backs) of some promotional products is what makes them not be legal, and the silver borders of Unglued/Unhinged makes them not be legal.

Again, incorrect; silver bordered cards are only illegal in tournaments unless specifically banned.

It's unfortunate that so many people get this wrong.

You are ridiculous! To be that nit-picky about the terms "format" and "tournament" when talking about legally playable is absurd. The intent of the conversation was to distinguish between the Silver bordered cards of the "UN" sets and the gold bordered Champion Deck cards....that are not tourny legal because they can't be played without sleeves due to their backing. Additionally, the cards in the UN sets are specifically not tourny legal or format legal because Wizards specifically made them so when they released them....regardless of their border color. THey only made the lands "black bordered" so as not to confuse players AND to maintain the aesthetic of card design with the rest of a player's deck.

That said....Dack IS Vintage and Legacy Tournament playable.

What's really interesting is its interaction with Batterskull and Jitte. Gaining control of Batterskull with a token (Or attached on any creature) means that there is no point to attacking; the damage from the germ token is immediately washed out from the lifegain itself, and there are a good many scenarios where you can chump block and get further out of range.

Lifelink doesn't work like that. Gaining control of Batterskull on an opponents germ will not do anything until the creature dies, or you can equip it elsewhere.

Ummm...if you gain control of someone's Batterskull you don't get the creature it's attached to. If you gain control of someone's Germ token with a Batterskull attached to it, you don't gain life because you don't control the Batterskull.

I swear I've never read posts this bad before. Any card printed, unless specifically detailed not Legacy/Vintage legal, is Legacy/Vintage legal upon printing. Legacy and Vintage allow for every card in the game of Magic to be played in that format unless it is placed on the banned/restricted list for that format or from an "UN" set.

It's a $20 card because people want it NOW and they are afraid that stock will run out! It's called "New Card Panic". It happens with every set. This card is very good....better than City of Brass which sees play in older formats. Those are the ones jumping on the card right now. It's a rare and will be at least one per box. This will settle to $10 in a month and hover around $12 once Modern fires up in the Summer.

I think that those are just speculations. Wizards gain nothing on providing such informations to shops, so the only way for those shops to get more info is by direct leaks from WotC employees.

And you're utterly naive to think that isn't happening. Stores like Channelfireball and Star City have these connections, but they won't ever admit to them. Star City knew that Wizards was putting "Treasures" in Zendikar packs before the release....because they bought these card for them at their tournys very heavily.

I have to agree that Marsh Flats is going to be in this product. It only makes sense. I mean....they had Verdant Catacombs in the Vampires event deck!

Why is MM - Dark Confidant $10 more @ SCG than Rav - Dark Confidant?

The short of it....and this was discussed numerous pages back....Dark Confident is a card that is played as a 4 of in nearly every deck it appears in. Most serious magic players really prefer to have the same art on their cards to keep the deck homogenized for tourny play. Since there was a shorter supply of the MM ones, they are harder to come by, thus the higher price.

As for keeping the same art throughout your deck...for those that aren't really tournament players, that's important because cards like Thoughtseize where the opponent gets to look at your hand you don't want to play the same card with a different art a couple turns later because then the player knows you still have the one they saw in your hand. Same holds true for land art....many players try to keep land art the same in their decks....which is the reason why some foil lands are worth more...all about the art.

    Here endeth the lesson.

These prices are so far out in left field for this GP that there is no way they are going to hold after it's completed. They will certainly fall in April and May and then shoot back up again when Modern PTQ season hits again in June/July.

So I have the Power Hungry Commander 2013 deck and the entire thing is miscut. The deck starts aligned but the miscut moves as you thumb through the deck.

What would the premium be for the entire deck since it currently retails for $30 in most places?

  • posted a message on why are cards from portal three kingdoms so expensive?
I bought a box of P3K back in the day for $100 off ebay. It had 60 packs in it and I was able to open nearly every rare in the set...I think I was missing 2. I sold the Zodiac Dragon for $50 and was happy about that. At a PTQ when Affinity was THE deck to beat I sold all the rares for $5 each and couldn't pass that up. I kept all the uncommons, commons and lands. Right after it became legal I sold all the uncommons (including 8-10 copies of Imperial Recruiter) for $200. Then everything went nuts!! I still use the lands as my basics in every deck I build. If I had all of those back today....I could probably sell them all off for over $2000. But you live and learn....who woulda thought Wizards was going to make Portal Legacy legal??

Ahh the early years of the Century...what a blast!

My thoughts were that he could be played in a Purphoros, God of the Forge, Young Pyromancer deck with a lot of burn. It might take off with mono blue on the decline. I don't see top yet...it needs something more. It does allow for the red mage to aim all burn at their opponent's dome rather than their creatures....the two for one appears to be a huge benefit.

    Maybe top off at $5.

Additional tech against Fae. Mistbind Clique is the major win condition and that card shuts it down.

Oh Enzie....R_E is going to read your posts however he sees fit.

G?R Monsters is a deck I've been playing for months now and the inclusion of Xenegod has made this deck so much more potent. Every creature that hits the board with him in play is that much better. He lives to Supreme Verdict and allows you to haste out a creature the following turn for big damage. I play 2 in the main and don't think I'd run more than that. I think his price will stay where it is for a while due to that fact...more than 2 seems like dead cards in the late game.

Ephara is played in color combo not known for its creature count. It's a control color combo that usually just played AEtherling as the creature threat with Mutavaults.

Whether anyone thinks Kiora is good or not doesn't matter in this case. She is a mythic planeswalker in a set that's not going to get opened much after this month. She defends herself, gains card and board advantage and has a very reachable, monstrous ultimate! She will go up in price, no doubt.

Gild is currently under priced IMHO. Black exile is rare and very strong. Sorcery speed is the only thing holding it's price down. Courser of Kruphix is insane. Yes he reveals your draw, but with him in play you can safely attack any UW control player with your Mutavaults knowing that if they charm it, it just comes back into play untapped. It helps with Domri as well.

Xenagos is for real. There is no reason anyone should be able to attack with a 10/10 Pulokranos on turn 4!

I'm looking through SCG's store and I'm finding that nearly all of the volatile cards, the ones that fluctuate with the meta, are all out of stock. Most of them are at all time lows right now, and as BNG gets spoiled the values of these cards look to rise.

Do we really think that SCG is out of these Standard staples, or are they claiming out of stock so they can buy at the low prices and sell for a marked up amount?

    Curious indeed.....
