I've been here for 14 years and 5 months. Registered on MTGNews in 2001. I used to post a ton, but lost interest when my clan The Called dissolved and the Gutter was archived. Curse was truly a curse for this place but I continued to visit as a lurker mostly because of the familiarity of the boards. I'll miss the site and the memories it holds for me. I hope the new location will provide players the same information and resources we've come to depend on.
Teia Rabbitshoes.....I'll never forget our days in the realm of debauchery! It was fun and lighthearted ribbing that is (sadly) not acceptable anymore.
To all my old The Called clan-mates....where ever you are now, I hope your days are filled with the comedy we used to have.
To rianalnn.....Brian I'm sorry for our falling out...I know you won't see this, but live strong brother!
See ya'll on the other side!
I have a feeling many of these cards were developed with the new fall expansion in mind.
We do a "High Rollers" pre-release. They only take 8 players, but each player pays $100 and gets one of each pre-release box. You are then to make your best 60 card deck from the card you open. It's like opening a box and making a block constructed deck. I won by going 3-0 and my prize was 40 packs. This was the best time I've had at a pre-release in a long time. It was only the second time the high-roller event was run and it went great!
In my 5 boxes I opened:
2x Ob-Nixlis
2x Nissa - one of them foil
2x Chord of Calling
1x Soul of New Phyrexia
2x Cruel Sadist
1x Hornet Queen
My deck was sick. I was able to put together a side board deck that was mono red. It had 2x Siege Dragons, 2x Souls, 4x Lightning Strike and I only needed to pull that one out during the last match. It was much faster than the GB deck I ran and allowed me to run over my last opponent.
Soul of New Phyrexia with an Eternal Thirst is disgusting.
My prize packs weren't that good though....I got another Nissa, Worldwaker and another Chord of Calling and a few solid rares. All and all a very fun limited set.
I agree with it's positioning on the boards....bottom of the page below all the non-magic related items is kind of like Friday evening television...the kiss of death position.
I can't believe that R_E's collection/inventory took a "Massive Hit" from the release of Conspiracy. That could only happen if you had nearly all of your stock in the 6 big cards reprinted in the set: Misdirection, Exploration, Pernicious Deed, Mirari's Wake, Reflecting Pool and Stifle.
I find it VERY hard to believe that anyone would just happen to have that many copies of these cards to have their collection take a MASSIVE hit like you claim yours did. But then it didn't....because you were so insightful that these specific cards were going to get a reprint that you sold them just weeks before they were spoiled! How relieved you must be that your collection didn't take a massive hit after all!?!?
Here's some words of wisdom for you....any card that has received a judge foil re-printing or has not been put on the reserved list IS going to get reprinted at some point or another for the mass population to purchase or open in a booster pack or box set. Count on that. Know that if you purchase a card with the speculation that you are going to make a bunch of money by holding and selling at a later date...KNOW that if you aren't as insightful as R_E, you could be in danger of losing ridiculous amounts of money!!
The reprints in Conspiracy are fantastic. It allows for younger players to get a grasp on the crazy power levels of some older cards in a new and exciting draft format. It also helps bolster their collection with $5-$10 rares that older players would be interested in trading for, so they can get a hold of some of the cards they've always wanted to put in their casual decks to beat up their friends with at the kitchen table.
That's what makes this game great! I'm not saying they should drop new versions of power cards and get rid of the entire reserved list...but this kind of action and reprint strategy is genius and I'm all for it.
My LGS is full of tournament level Legacy/Vintage players. They had a blast drafting this set all last weekend. So much so, that once they finished drafting they ended up buying a box for themselves. Every ounce of Conspiracy was gone from the shelves in my local store buy MOnday at 1:00 pm.
But...haters gonna hate!

I was just trying to discern whether it was worthwhile to include this pack in the value of a box.

EDITS: Instead of double posting I'll elaborate....do we take into consideration the potential price of a box when there is the chance that one of them will contain a God pack. I don't know the numbers that are involved in having one in your box, but it should be taken into some sort of thought when assessing the value of the set as a whole.
