  • posted a message on When did you get your first job?
My first "job" was at a trading card store. I don't really think of it as a job because, rather than getting paid hourly, I got paid for a % of how much the store made plus a $100 stipend. The store was in the red (almost in the green, but wasn't quite there yet), thus I only got $100 a month. However, I did get a ton of free soda/food/store product. It was definitely a great experience, and much better than doing something like retail or fast food.

My current, and what I consider my first "real" job is at my current university. Holy ****, I goddamn love this job. I was hired to be a "Quality Assurance Tester/Technical Writer", but I was very quickly moved into development (I'm studying Computer Science at my university). I've almost completed my first project, which took a while mostly because I had to learn Ruby on Rails/HTML/CSS/Javascript (all of which I had practically no knowledge of). Anyways, aside from that my coworkers and my boss are all so awesome! Seriously, such a great community. We used to go out and throw a few frisbees at the uni's quad (we haven't done so lately, but I'm guessing that's because people have gotten a larger load of work). I don't know how to describe working there other than it feels like I'm working for a company like Google/Riot Games/Microsoft/Facebook. The work day's not complete if someone didn't get hit by a nerf dart. Oh, and I forgot that my boss asked me to bring him a copy of my class syllabus's so that he can give me work that relates to my classes! God I love it here so much. Oh and we just recently had a pizza party for lunch at work to celebrate the student workers going back to school and finishing working the summer. I could keep going, but I think you get the gist of it Grin

I don't hate radiohead per say but i hate their fans. they follow them with a cult like mindset. same with muse. average band but over the top hype.

Totally agree about Muse. I've never really been able to listen to them. Just not my cup of tea.

A couple good ones that need to be mentioned, in my opinion:

    Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

I have to agree with this suggestion, somewhat surprised it wasn't mentioned already. Also, FLCL (or Fooly Cooly), was made by the same guy as TTGL and has a similar style. Both are great, however FLCL only has 6 episodes (to TTGL which has 24 I think). It packs a lot in those 6 episodes though.

Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni (Or Higurashi, When they Cry).

Oh my god yes. This show was fantastic. A few months ago I watched it again, it was just as fantastic as I remembered it being. Also, while it's not necessarily anime, if you liked this series you should check out Umineko. It's a visual novel. It's also made by one guy: the guy who made Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni. It is also considered the spiritual successor to Higurashi. Oh and when I say it's made by one guy I mean it is made by one single person (i.e. the art isn't very good but the story is pretty darn good).

Anyways, some recommendations of shows that haven't been mentioned yet:

    Mushi-Shi:
Episodic series. Only a few characters are there for more than one episode. Very laid back show. Basically, it follows a man who's a "Mushi Master". This man (named Ginko) goes around helping people who have problems related to mushi. The english dub is pretty good.

    Steins;Gate:
Holy crap this show is good. Seriously. It's funny, uplifting and entertaining the first half. Then the show takes a turn and boom, it's dark and thrilling. Great characters all around, good art, great story. Seriously, you should be watching this right now. It is fantastic. One of my favorite shows of all time.

    Clannad:
A slice-of-life comedy/drama. The first season kind of sucks, especially compared to the second season (named Clannad: After Story). The way I look at the first season is that it's basically just an okay comedy with a little romance in it (most of the romance is very dull only because, in my experience, the viewer's understanding of the relationship is usually ahead of the show, as in "oh I already new that was going to happen" sort of feeling, there's just no excitement in the "romantic" parts of the first season). However, that being said, the second season is so incredible. If you don't cry, well then, I'm not sure you have emotions. If you want a show that'll make you cry and one that will make you look back on it, go for Clannad. Amazing show.

I'm honestly not a huge fan of that song, but it showcases the band well and a lot of people seem to like it. Makes sense, it's really catchy, especially that chorus. I don't like some of the poppy bits of it mostly, but the use of guitars and keys is nice so I decided it was good enough to be a sample. Since you seem to have a kind of similar view of them you might like my favorite song off the album more, Bombs Away

But yea their trademark sound is that kind of combination of pop, soul-ish vocals, and generally being really fun and catchy, so like I said it's a fairly representative song

Oh boy, now that is a song that makes me want to actually check out there other stuff. I really liked the brass in this song and the piano pretty good. Definitely going to check these guys out now! Thanks for sharing that song!

It felt a bit radio rock-y for my tastes, but it's not too bad. I liked the bass and the video at least. Interesting to hear them since they draw influence from my favorite band, though they're a lot more alt rock.

For whoever's next I have Foxy Shazam's Count Me Out. I guess I'd say they're pop, post hardcore and... soul? It's a pretty damn unique sound, and they manage to be that way and still be the epitome of fun music - they're catchy as ****. Singer's talented too.

I really liked the opening guitar. The songs somewhat interesting. I kind of like the vocals but at the same time, eh. The song is pretty catchy, I like it. I'm not sure what the rest of their songs are like so I'm skeptical as to whether or not I would like the band. In the end, sounds good, kind of like the vocals, liked the opening guitar, and I'll probably check them out.

M83 - Intro (ft. Zola Jesus)

M83 is a band that sort of mixes electronica with shoegazing. Their earlier albums were a lot more "white noise" but their more recent albums have become more defined, sounding a lot more like the song above. I started listening to them way back in 2005 or so. I really liked them and over the years they've produced better and better albums (IMO). I feel like their most recent album (Hurry Up, We're Dreaming) has a lot of "Epic" sounding songs. They also have a number of songs that are very ambient (and pretty long).

we haven't seen the actual patch notes, so we have no clue where they're nerfing the boxes - asides from damage. I don't mind them being more useful as mid-fight tools, but the whole "step on a boxnest and die instantly" thing feels a bit out of style for League.

Well (as I assume you know) they are trying to make Shaco less of a "Let's put all my boxes in this one spot and hope someone comes by and dies" and more of a well better champion late game with more than just the above trick. You know? Shaco really needs buffs (not to his boxes but more towards his late games scaling) and I think that's what they're trying to do without leaving that (IMO stupid) boxes in a bush trick.

Soooo, I finally got to play a few ranked games since school has been kind of hectic lately. Anyways, I go over to a friends house to practice playing taric jax in bot lane. First game our leader bans Taric (my friend can't play any other supports very well so he just picked galio and went top), then at like the 28 minute mark our apartment complex's fire alarm goes off. We look out into our lobby, there's a **** ton of smoke. So naturally my friend and I grab our laptops and get out. Well, there's a leave and 20 elo lost.
I should explain, the part of the apartment complex that my friend and I were in is pretty much cut off from the rest of the complex. It's kind of like in between the ground floor and the first floor. It's called the Mth floor, there's only 6 rooms on it compared to floors G-6 which have like 20 or so.
Anyways, we can go back in, all the rooms in the apartment are propped open by firemens axe's and other things they had brought in with them. The firemen are all there tell us to keep the shades open and that it pretty much was just a bunch of smoke, not a real fire. Great.
So my friend and I get back on and we had received a leave, unfortunate. We decide to queue again, before the minions have even spawned the fire alarm goes off again. What. The. ****. Same people did it again some how. Long story short we get back to the game and 2 people on our team had left. GG.

TL;DR: Lost 40 points cause some people kept tripping the fire alarm.

Haha probabably. I'll just have to wait! Especially since I won't be able to play a demo of LoL: Dominion this'll have to make up for it.
