You still value life gain and life loss - magic isn't won through that. If you got 8 activations of kokusho off, and no one gained life or tried to stop you.. gg play another? Or are we seriously saying that this card is POWERFUL enough to warrant a ban? Mind over Matter says hi.
I'm not saying he's a weak card.. but why not play an infinite combo with all that stuff people are letting you do? Win the game 6 turns earlier!
I think he is maybe saying that if Kokusho is your general, he will show up a lot more often, as opposed to him being in your 99, where you would have to tutor for/draw him.
Not saying I agree with his statement, just clarifying.
I play Mana Reflection and I like it. But I don't understand the fuzz about the threat of this card. Why is this such a "must-answer"? Why isn't that Thought Reflection more of a threat? Everybody always says that drawing cards wins you the game (and that card lets you draw two every time!), now it's mana? (yes, I know it's probably a combination of all). I mean, how many times haven't I heard LSV say "card that draws cards will run away with the game"?
I also don't understand the hate it draws. Why is this card worse than your Consecrated Sphinx or your Mind's Eye (both commonly referred to as "bonkers")? Why does this card draw the hate, but not your Sheoldred, Whispering One or your Privileged Position? What kind of cards are you expecting to play against, if you consider Mana Reflection to be the biggest threat on the board?
If you draw ten cards off of the Sphinx and have six lands, you cannot play that Kozilek you drew for four more turns (assuming land drop every turn). However, if you drop Mana Reflection, you can play him next turn (assuming land drop).
Reflection takes you from 6 mana to 12 just like that. From 12 mana to 24, just like that. That is an extremely game changing effect. At five mana, you can probably drop a semi relevant threat. At ten mana, expect to start seeing two bombs a turn, or a really huge bomb.
You know what's even better? Gather Specimens. Such a wonderful card - doesn't just steal a card, it steals its ETB effects at instant speed. I used it as a guy was casting Terastodon this past weekend, wiping out his Sol Ring, Defense of the Heart, and a Command Tower. He scooped shortly thereafter.
It steals any dudes coming into play under any opponent's control, until the end of the turn. So, I hope you remembered to get his elephants, too
Yeah, originally I had Coffers along with Urborg to net me that big black mana. Because it was simply too weak a synergy, I simply took it out without thinking of the cards I added for it.
I'd like to keep in LftL or Crucible, though. Just as insurance. I was also thinking of adding in Gaea's Cradle but I'm unsure that I have enough creatures to support it...
I don't see a lot of reanimation, so Crucible seems like the better choice. Loam would be better with reanimation.
I agree that you don't have the support for Cradle. I think Cradle and I think its tapping for 20+, and your deck just isn't gonna pull that off.
So, what is Life from the Loam accomplishing in this deck? I don't see cycling lands, and I don't see too many must-answer utility lands. Am I missing something?
Do either of those cards cost as much as Imperial Seal?
Imperial Recruiter could also fall into the "too expensive" range if it were used as often as Imperial Seal.
Dude. "A card's dollar cost is prohibitive for most players AND the card usually detracts from the playing experience of everyone else in the game [The Power 8]"
It has to do both. Imperial Seal is not doing anything more broken than Vampiric Tutor (which it is strictly WORSE than) or anything of its ilk.
You say "used as often as Imperial Seal", which is ludicrous. I've been playing Magic for almost 15 years and haven't ever even seen an Imperial Seal in person.
This is not a "tutors are breaking EDH" issue, it is an "I don't want to play answers, only bombs" issue.
I am trying to find a World at War, that is something people keep telling me to get :-p Umm, you really think 19 creatures isn't enough? Most of them are threats that need to be dealt with, so i shouldn't need more than 1 or 2. IDK, the format is a bit confusing to me, a first attempt is a first attempt
Mine would have to be Vorosh, the Hunter. Some of my most memorable moments have involved smacking with a pumped Vorosh for twelve general damage, then Momentous Fall for twelve. Also, Time Stop and Trickbind are two of my favorite cards in the deck. Foiled so many combos with Trickbind and ended the turns of many hopeful Tooth and Nailers.
Owww this hurts my brain. What are you trying to say exactly?

I guess I missed that. Anyone got a link?
Also, as far as this thread, I think the poll speaks for itself.

It draws hate for a reason.

World of War doesn't combine with Bear Umbra on a dude or Sword of Feast and Famine on a dude for infinite combat steps. Aggravated Assault does.
