  • posted a message on Plastic case to hold binder pages
    Hi,

I currently have 4 big binders worth of cards, and use the standard Ultrapro 9-count hologram pages. I have found that storing the binders eventually causes some pages to bend in places and warp cards. Especially the first few pages on the leftmost column. After losing a 5k$+ collection to a random flood around 8 years ago, I'm looking for a nice waterproof plastic container to hold pages. I believe the page dimensions are around 12x9 inches. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions or recommendations for how they store cards outside of binders, without individually sleeving each card. I'm thinking something like this might work, but am open to suggestions:

    Thanks!

Hi! I'm putting this deck together and would like suggestions, if possible. Legacy rules, no SB.

I was toying around with these cards, but removed them in the final cut, significantly changing the theme of the deck:
    Birds of Paradise
    Dark Confidant
    Splinterfright
    Terastodon
    Terravore
    Smallpox
    Phyrexian Arena
    Rancor
    Wasteland
    Liliana of the Veil
    Hymn to Tourach

The goal is to put out creatures that survive my wrath effects to gain board and card advantage. Once that's done, drop finishers for the win. Obviously the curve is somewhat odd, but this is mostly a multiplayer deck. In my meta, 1on1 deck matchups are typically won in the mid-late game anyway, which can be a contrast to Legacy outside my meta.

I'll be watching this thread closely. Looks like 3 good app authors in here... very impressed guys, keep up the good work. Looking forward to an iPad app that includes both deckbuilding and collection tracking/display.

  • posted a message on How would original dual lands effect the game if reprinted?
Therefore, in the future I wouldn't be surprised to see duals without basic land types.

There are two problems I would foresee with printing new dual lands in the manner mentioned above:

    1) These lands would work to supplement the already existing dual lands in eternal formats. Taking away any drawback that exists in the current "alternative" duals would just increase the overall power curve that exists in these formats. New hate would have to be created to balance this, but some might argue the existing hate doesn't currently balance duals, hence their price.

    2) The old duals would still exist. Since they would still maintain an edge over the newer more limited duals (eg, can be fetched, count as a mountain, etc) then people would still whine that the original duals are too powerful and too expensive, which is no different than the current state.

I also shudder to think of the overall shift if they went the other direction and printed lands even more powerful than the original duals. This might be an option in 5-10 years as the power creep increases, but probably not right now.

I think re-prints would be the only viable option, but Wizards has backed themselves into a corner on this. Only reality would show how many collectors they'd lose if they went back on the reserved list. Who knows, it might be worth it for them... but probably not.

Eat, eat, eat (and exercise). Good food doesn't have to be expensive.

    Eggs
    Tuna
    Peanut butter
    Carrots (don't forget your veggies!)
    Spaghetti
    Bananas (and other fruits)
Chicken (highest protein per ounce in meat)
    Oatmeal
    Whole grain rice (with meat)
Whey protein / shakes / bars
    Frozen veggies
    Beans, canned
Boxes of cereal, just buy the cheap stuff
    etc.

Do your research on high protein foods and scavenge your dining hall or cheap grocery store for them. Thankfully you're skinny so you don't have to count carbs or watch what you eat as much as the endomorph down the hall.

I'm with you - not quite at your height, but was 6ft X 120lbs for a large part of my late teens and early 20s. I completely understand how tough it is to be an ectomorph. Thankfully, weight WILL come with age - you can trust me on that one.

Peanut butter goes well on bagels, toast, and on english muffins. Add a thin layer of real butter before you add the peanut butter. Nuts are great - I prefer the lightly salted mixed nuts in giant jugs. Beef jerky is good, because you can eat a ton of it and it doesn't taste like sewage. I would stay away from large amounts of cinnamon, and large amounts of sugars. You certainly don't want to replace low weight with a medical condition.

There are a ton of things out there that will put on weight, you just have to eat a craptonne of calories. Although you'll gain pounds quick, I'd stay away from stuff like the Starbucks venti mocha - 580 calories and 15 grams of saturated fat. With your metabolism you can get away with an entire truck load of food every day, but I would recommend eating specific food in moderation (aka, don't eat ONLY twinkies for a day). Things like pork sausage and beef really packed on the pounds for me when I entered my 30s. Avocado is the fattiest fruit you can eat. Cheese will add a brick to your belly, but dairy can also be very high in protein.

Michael Phelps eats a 12,000 calorie diet. If someone like you or me ate that, we'd probably be 250+ lbs in a few short months, despite our genes and metabolism. Also, if you haven't thought about seeing a nutritionist, you should. The good ones can be pricey, but it only takes one or two sessions to develop a quality diet that won't kill you, but will gain you a ton of weight.

No diet will put on the pounds as well as a good diet mixed with exercise. Buy a set of push-up plates (perfect pushup is 20$ on amazon) and a pull-up bar (20-30$ - get one of the p90x bars). Dumbbells are nice too, but can be pricey, especially with your body type since you'll go up in weight quickly in the beginning. I do the following routine every other day:

    * 3 sets of pushups to exhaustion followed immediately by dumbbell press (or dips)
    * 3 sets of pullups (or negatives if you can't do any - www.fiftypullups.com)
    * Crunches till your abs burn
    * 3 sets of Lunges or squats (with dumbbells or milk jugs if possible)
    * 2 sets of Dumbbell curls (substitute dumbbells for other heavy objects and curl them)

http://www.exrx.net/Lists/Directory.html is a great resource to see which exercises hit certain muscles, and also to find exercises that don't need expensive equipment.

It takes me 30-45 minutes to do this routine every other day, and while it isn't an absolute complete workout like you could get at a gym, it will hit the vast majority of your upper body and pack on muscle quickly if accompanied by a decent protein diet. And you don't even need to leave your dorm room. My "natural" weight is around 130-150lbs and after 3 months of this workout I was 166lbs with virtually no fat. Medium teeshirts that I wore for 10 years became too tight for me quickly.

There is nothing that I've ever experienced that boosts your long-term confidence as much as a decent body. Your girlfriend will like it, and you'll feel much better overall. We're skinny dudes, so we'd have to devote our lives to bodybuilding or a sport to have the same build as a mesomorph that hits the gym every day. But unless you're driven to that for some reason, why bother? A skinny guy with muscles is about as good as it gets... and people will be envious of you after 6 months of working out and eating better than you do now. Other than doing major harm to your body through other means, eating right and working out will accomplish your goal of gaining weight, and also includes several other perks that are worth it on their own.

You can PM me if you need any advice, I've lived with your body type my entire life, so I completely get it.

  • posted a message on I want to have 1 Million dolars by the time im 25.
Surprised that there is little mention of real estate here. It's might be a different investment than the stock market, but it's an investment nonetheless. The market is pretty bad right now, some say it might even get worse. Buy an investment property in a growing area like Dulles VA when the market is at the perceived bottom, spend your days learning how to perform home repair/upgrades, and flip it for 2x-5x what you paid for it in 5-6 years. Shoot, do it twice. I bought my home for several hundred thousand dollars and it's worth 3/4 of that now. My only hope of ever moving out is the market picking back up. People make millions in this type of market (if they know what they're doing) on the shoulders of people like me.

Hard truth: unfortunately, what you're looking for isn't really feasible. In general, you can't make heaps of cash if you're ignorant, or are soliciting advice on a trading card forum. Much smarter people than you have tried and failed. If it were easy, everyone would be a millionaire and the goal would be a trillion bucks instead. Come find me in 6 years and tell me how it went. • posted a message on How valuable are MTGS member's opinions/concerns?
Not being a regular on this site, I hope my opinion can be taken as unbiased. I see merit in both sides of this discussion. This might not help the topic at hand, but as a 31 year old Director in a company, with 25+ employees directly under me, HR action more often than not comes down to intent.

Not everyone can be expected to get along, and not everyone can be expected to like everyone else. What is said usually matters less than how it is said. Someone saying "haha, you ☺☺☺" in a joking manner has a much different meaning than "say that ☺☺☺☺ again to my face you ☺☺☺☺ing ☺☺☺☺☺☺" in a hostile manner (I'm sincerely hoping the board is going to censor this). The former might involve a discussion depending on who (if anyone) is offended, the latter could potentially require discipline including termination. Having thick skin, I'm willing to overlook things that might offend me if they're said in jest. I cannot overlook the same things being said in a hostile manner.

I agree with one of the previous posters that things can be overlooked until someone is offended. People from different walks of life use different slang, much of which can be ignored until someone brings it up. At that point, the course of action should be to mention to the person making the remarks that they are being offensive. Once that is done, you can deal with the situation depending on the response. That is, hopefully, how the majority of adults handle situations like this in the real world. I wouldn't find anything wrong with someone telling me "hey, when you said XXX yesterday, that really offended me." In that situation, I would be mortified and apologetic, and not make that mistake again.

A public forum needs a delicate balance of moderation and allowing the overall culture to be maintained without destroying it. Just because nobody vocalizes their displeasure over a term posted, doesn't mean there aren't readers out there who are indeed offended. Until the issue or offense is vocalized, however, action should not be taken to "over-moderate" or a majority (rather than a minority) might be turned off from visiting. I don't see that happening here, and as long as the moderation team adapts and takes corner cases on an individual basis, I don't see any real threat of a mass-exodus over such an issue.

  • posted a message on Locus Lands vs Urzatron
    Hi,

I've been working on a casual deck focused mostly around artifacts. Prior to SoM, I had been planning to use the Urzatron, but I'm contemplating the switch to Locus lands (Cloudpost, Glimmerpost, Vesuva). Has anyone tested this, and is it worthwhile to use over the Urza lands?

    Thanks!

Ok so i have a couple Questions
!.) What are all the ways you can kill an indestructible object
2.) what can survive Deathtouch and how much power does a Deathtouch Ability really have.
    Smile

You can give it -X/-X. Ie, if you cast Infest, then your opponent's Stuffy Doll would die. You could also remove it from the game using something like Swords to Plowshares. Or make them sac the creature.

Deathtouch can be a powerhouse, since there are few indestructible creatures.

Edit: I see the intention behind the post now. Black has tons of stuff that give -X/-X. I would start there.

Wouldn't the first/double strike from Student of Warfare be wasted essentially because of Kinsbaile Cavalier?

And can Student of Warfare be leveled up more than once per turn?

I play both of these cards, and have indeed run into a bit of redundancy with them, but the same can be said of Knight Exemplar, White Knight, Knight of Meadowgrain, and pretty much every other Knight since most have first strike. Kinsbaile Cavalier is still great.

Yes, Student of Warfare can be leveled more than once per turn as a sorcery.

Does WotC have production facilities in Malaysia? It's possible a worker grabbed a few from the factory or warehouse where they're being printed.

Close to 80% of the world’s toys are made in China and the majority –including the majority of Hasbro products– come from factories in Guangdong Province in southern China. In addition, we have some toys and games made in other countries in Asia, Europe, and the Americas.

You could consider Liliana's Caress which has replaced Megrim in getting more bang for your buck with discard.

Also, Lavaborn Muse is pretty cool. You could replace Disintegrate with Banefire.

I think the main problem is that Ticketmaster borders on monopoly, making it difficult to purchase tickets any other way. Before I could comment further, however, I'd need to see how much profit of the ticket sale goes to Ticketmaster, and how much goes to the venue/event. Just because Ticketmaster was the cheapest of the choices, doesn't mean they didn't inflate the price of the ticket initially, and prevent competition from offering them for less.

Where do you find these in the Walmart, in the toy section?

My Walmart has a card section in between two register aisles at the front of the store. It's usually stocked by what appears to be a 3rd-party, as Walmart staff is utterly useless. I've been to other Walmarts in different states, and the location was the same. The difference was that my Walmart had 0 booster boxes, maybe 1-2 of the crappy boxed sets (PvC, all-foil Alara decks, etc) and nothing else but Baseball and Pokemon. The Walmart I went to in North Carolina had tons of stuff, even Future Sight boosters for MSRP :p
