Little Zangief was twice as big as the bully. What kind of idiot bullies someone twice as big as him?

I'm glad that for once the US is showing that it doesn't mind sharing the responsibility of being the world's police with other countries.

I work as a Teacher. Bad students sometimes ruin my day.

Your students might not appreciate you and the parents of your students might not either. But I am sure there are millions of Americans that realize you have the most important job in this country even though you make peanuts.

vligerdragon I babysat for some neighbor kids who behaved abominably toward me. I'd usually be watching them while their mom was working in room in the house, so if I'd say no to something, they'd go pound on the door and whine to her. Then she'd look at me like it was my fault. The girl would pull my hair, and the boy would never just go to bed when told to. Most of the time I had to carry him upstairs kicking and fussing. I started to get busy when they'd call to ask if I could babysit.

Cashier at Target. 8 hours. On my feet. Doing the same thing over and over again with the general public. The worst days were when I was on the express checkout lanes. Seriously. 10 items means 10 items. Not 9 items and 109310 little tea light candle things that are all priced individually but are the same thing.

I'm not sure if laws about this vary from state to state, but in my state there is no law against going through the express lane with a cart full of stuff. We are allowed to ask the customer if he/she realizes that they are in the express lane but we are not allowed to remove them. When one or more customers gets angry about a customer with a large order in the express lane, I explain to them that we are not allowed to remove them but they are welcome to try to persuade this customer to move to another lane. But I do empathize :).

  • posted a message on How come more female rock bands don't make the big time?
Every time I hear the latest hit by the Silversun Pickups, I wonder why it is so rare for a band with a female lead singer to make the big time. It is kinda understandable in the metal genre where vocals are dominated with screaming and guttural growls. But I'm baffled with the rock genre. Is there a logical reason why rock bands with a female lead singer so rarely make the big time?

(Please don't let this degenerate into the typical mainstream vs. indie discussion.)

  • posted a message on Dogs or cats?
I put both even though I only have a cat right now. I think the biggest advantage of having a dog over a cat is that dogs are more fun. And the biggest advantage of having a cat over a dog is that they are much lower maintenance. I'm hoping to get a dog sometime soon so that I have a companion to go jogging with me.

And let me put in my two cents about this discussion about whether dogs or cats are smarter. I have seen a few wildlife shows that list the top ten smartest types of animals in the world. Both dogs and cats are in the top ten. So saying one is smarter than the other is like saying that Einstein was smarter than Hawking. Does it really matter? Both are really smart.

    Quote from bighaben
I've been pretty lucky so far I guess, and I've only worked for two companies so far.

First was Subway, which was bad, but not terrible, most of the problems stemmed from the lousy low-lives the manager liked to hire.

The other was really 6 different positions at a local grocery store. Cashiering is something I never want to do again. It's monotonous as hell, you stay in the same place for hours at a time, and have to deal with the worst people. I say they are also among the most stupid people around as they shop where I work rather than saving some money and going to any other grocery store within 5 miles of where I work. Seriously, I think the only people who shop at my store are morons, or people in a rush, and neither are fun to work with.

I now do day stocking, which is good, and I can't complain much about it, but damn it, people are incredibly lazy at doing the easiest and most simplest things. That's annoying.

I'm finally getting out of the grocery business after 14 years. A good part of that was cashiering. Let me assure you that the stupid customers are everywhere. The ones that probably get to me the most have special needs like putting the paper bag inside the plastic bag then being told where to put every single item inside the bag. Most of the time in this situation, the person is paying with food stamps. So not only do I have to bag your groceries in a special way, I also have to pay for them too. Thanks.

(Disclaimer: this isn't a knock against all people on food stamps. There are plenty of good people that have legitimate reasons for needing them.)

I think this issue has more to do with economics than psychology. Card prices and the prices of everything else in the US are determined by supply and demand. If the price of Jace 2.0 gets too high and demand drops then the price will inevitable drop to reestablish the equilibrium between supply and demand.

What was your worst job ever and why?

Mine was probably my first job at McD's. The actual job wasn't too bad but the managers made it unbearable at times. It made me start thinking that the key to having a job that I like has little to do with how difficult the job is and has a lot to do with whether the environment is a friendly or hostile one.

I distinctly remember times when I worked in a hostile environment. I remember feeling sick to my stomach each day as I got ready for work because of the anxiety. Maybe there are people out there that have thick enough skin to work in a hostile environment but I'm definitely not one of them.

I recently started actively job searching and I have been getting a lot of calls from insurance companies, trying to get me to sell insurance for them. Ironically, the most persistent company was Aflac. If they call again, I'll tell them that I'm not interested in selling insurance but I heard there is a new opening for the duck voice. :p

If I took a job with one of those insurance companies, I'm pretty sure that it would rank higher than McD's as my worst job ever. I get sick to my stomach just thinking about making cold calls and knocking on doors that aren't expecting me. I know how I react when a solicitor knocks on my door.

So anyways, I'm interested in hearing what your worst job ever was and I'm interested in hearing from anyone that knows what it is like to be an insurance salesman.
