  • posted a message on Wizards blocking sales of altered cards?
These aren't traditional alters. The site linked by OP sells stickers which were using art commissioned by WotC, not only that but there is no way the stickers are tournament legal as they would alter the thickness of the card, marking it.

No token, to 'Die' means to be put into the graveyard from the battlefield and Pillar is sending it to exile.

There are multiple land stations and/or judges drop lands off at the tables for the players to use. (Yes, it is a LOT of land) Smile

Anything before the colon in an activated ability is a cost. The payment of costs cannot be responded to which means it is not possible for your opponent to play Searing Spear or any other spell or ability in time to stop you from sacrificing the creature.

Yes, Gravity Sphere will not prevent you from giving creatures flying.

Quote from Gravity Sphere Gatherer Rulings »
It removes Flying from all creatures on the battlefield when it enters the battlefield and from each creature as that creature enters the battlefield. It does not prevent the Flying ability being given to the creature *after* the Sphere is on the battlefield.

pacifism an aura that typically enchants a creature you don't control. does a card being on the other side of the board mean you don't control it, only own it? For instance if i put pacifism on my opponents creature, would it be under my opponents control?

    You still control the enchantment.

A card being on one side of the table or another has no rules meaning and is merely a convention of convenience to allow players to more easily visualize what is happening with the game.

    You may play another land.

The Oracle generates an additional permission to play a land, which you used.

You are correct that when you blink it the Oracle becomes a new object, this is turn generates a new permission.

You cannot change Proper Nouns, of which Black Vice is one.

    Quote from Gatherer Rulings »
You can't change proper nouns (i.e. card names) such as "Island Fish Jasconius".

  • posted a message on Pallimud
Pallimud does not have a triggered ability. It has two linked static abilities.

The first generates a replacement effect that modifies how it enters the battlefield and determines the player for the second ability.

The second is a characteristic defining ability that modifies the power of the creature. This is updated constantly as the gamestate changes.

  • posted a message on Missed Cavern of Souls naming
    Quote from Himashi
Opponent plays Cavern of Souls At SCG Milwaukee. Doesn't name anything, We both noticed a full turn later, called a judge.

The judge looked it up on his phone, walked away for 5 minutes, came back and gave us both warnings and let my opponent name something with the cavern. He then named spirit and cast Obzedat, Ghost Council and won the game.. how convenient?

I thought after was this how this should have went down? My opponent then revealed to me he drew the Obzedat, and if he would have named on the Cavern a turn earlier he would have said beast.

The Judge's ruling here is correct. The infraction is a Game Play Error - Game Rule Violation for your opponent and a Game Play Error - Failure to Maintain Game state for you.

A creature type must be named for Cavern of Souls so your opponent names one immediately.

Game Play Error — Game Rule Violation

    Definition
This infraction covers the majority of game situations in which a player makes an error or fails to follow a game
procedure correctly. It handles violations of the Comprehensive Rules that are not covered by the other Game Play Errors.

An error that an opponent can’t verify the legality of should have its penalty upgraded. These errors involve misplaying hidden information, such as the morph ability or failing to reveal a card to prove that a choice made was legal.
If the information needed to verify the legality was ever in a uniquely identifiable position (such as on top of the library or as the only card in hand) after the infraction was committed, do not upgrade the penalty and reveal the information if possible.
    Examples
    A. A player casts Wrath of God for 3W (actual cost 2WW).
    B. A player does not attack with a creature that must attack each turn.
C.A player fails to put a creature with lethal damage into a graveyard and it is not noticed until several turns later.
    D. A Voice of All is on the battlefield that should have had a color named for it.
E.A player casts Brainstorm and forgets to put two cards back on top of his library.

    Penalty - Warning

    Philosophy
While Game Rule Violations can be attributed to one player, they usually occur publicly and both players are expected to be mindful of what is happening in the game. It is tempting to try and “fix” these errors, but it is important that they be handled consistently, regardless of their impact on the game.

    Additional Remedy
If the error was discovered within a time frame in which a player could reasonably be expected to notice the error and the situation is simple enough to safely back up without too much disruption to the course of the game, the judge may get permission from the Head Judge to back up the game to the point of the error. Each action taken is undone until the game reaches the point immediately prior to the error. Cards incorrectly placed in hand are returned to the location in the zone from which they were moved (if the identity of the incorrectly drawn card is not known to all players, a random card is returned instead). Once the game is backed up, it continues from that point.
If not caught within a reasonable time frame, or backing up is impossible or sufficiently complex that it could affect the course of the game, the judge should leave the game state as it is after applying state-based actions and not attempt any form of partial ‘fix’–either reverse all actions or none, with the following exceptions:
•If a player made an illegal choice or failed to make a required choice for a permanent on the battlefield, that player makes a legal choice.

•If a player forgot the turn-based action of drawing a card, that player draws a card.
•If a player forgot to discard or return cardsfrom their hand to another zone, that player does so.
•If an object is in the wrong zone, the identity of the object was known to all players, and it is within a turn of the error, put the object in the correct zone.

In a situation where the effect that caused the infraction is controlled by one player, but the illegal action is taken by another player, both receive a Game Play Error–Game Rule Violation. For example, if a player casts Path to Exile on an opponent’s creature and the opponent puts the creature into the graveyard, both players receive a Game Play Error — Game Rule Violation infraction.

  • posted a message on Aurelia's Fury - timing question
You choose the amount of damage dealt per target during the process of casting the spell.

Since one target is still legal when the spell goes to resolve Aurelia's Fury will do as much as it can and deal the assigned amount to the targeted player.
Example: In the above scenario if you cast Aurelia's Fury with X=4 and assign 2 damage to a creature and 2 damage to an opponent. The opponent would still take 2 damage.

Fireball is an exception to this since it says 'divide damage evenly' instead of 'divided as you choose.'

How long does Day 1 of sealed GPs last? The reason I ask is b/c I'm driving in Saturday morning and won't check in at my hotel until after Day 1 is over. My room is only guaranteed until midnight.

I would expect 10-12 hours if you play the entire Day 1, with the tournament starting at 10am you should be able to make it to your hotel in time.

  • posted a message on Art Card Sleeves Legal or Not
    Quote from shadowbob19
Exsam what did you mean by this
-Full art sleeves that do not have a solid border will almost always be marked along the edges due to small but noticeable variance in printings.

Sleeves that do not have a solid border around the outside (artwork that goes all the way to the edge).

can you show me a example of one that's good of art sleeve I can use.

Every sleeve you've referenced in this thread is legal for use as they all have solid borders around the outside.

I also was thinking about putting my own art work on a sleeve to. To show of at a FNM game.

This is not likely to be legal without professional printing equipment. Consistency is the key with sleeves, every card must be indistinguishable from the other when face down.
