I'm pretty tired of Oblivion Ring. Part of keeping the game healthy should also be making the sets new and refreshing. Even if there is nothing wrong with Oblivion Ring flavor or power wise, it's still become stale. Time to give it a rest.

    planeswalkers aren't players?

Nope, Planeswalkers are not Players, they are Planeswalkers.

He sure can't. Linvala comes into play as Chord of Calling is resolving, and after it has resolved, she is in play (as per Chord's instructions).

This has been a big discussion at the local shop where I play. But can Iona be countered if she is coming into play opponent names Blue, could you still use like Essence Scatter on her because she has not resolved yet. Or does the color choice have priority so you would not be able to cast the spell?

To pick up an on earlier comparison: Do creatures get +1/+1 before Glorious Anthem resolves? Of course not.

No. Two colorless mana is not two black mana.

Okay, I think I understand now. So kaleidostone is a one shot deal basically, you have that mana for that one turn when it's activated and then after that you have whatever mana your land gives you.

Not necessarily for the "turn." A single turn is divided up into several phases, and further divided into steps. You may remember phrases like "combat phase" or "untap phase" (untap step now).

Whenever the turn moves from one step to another step, all mana is emptied from the mana pool under normal circumstances.

It sounds to me like a classic case of confusing mana with lands. Both Kaleidostone and Greenweaver Druid add mana to your mana pool. Mana is an invisible force while is used to pay costs. Lands (Forest, for example) can be used to add mana to your mana pool.

When you use Kaleidostone, you add one mana of each color to your mana pool. This does not affect your lands whatsoever. When you spend that mana, it goes away. When the step ends, your mana pool is emptied.

Haha, this is fantastic news! Just the other day I was lamenting about how my favorite deck of all time, Tooth and Nail, would no longer be Extended legal. I remember wishing Wizards would make a new format where I could still play Tooth and Nail without it being like Legacy. Lo and behold, my wish is granted. I'm almost ecstatic.

No, you cannot play a land "in response."

Rather, after the angel finishes resolving, you (as the active player) regain priority to play a land if you wish. If you opponent jumps the gun without you passing priority to him, what he has done is illegal. If you pass priority to him without playing a land, you're out of luck.

I had a Vampire Hexmage in play.

    Opponent plays Ajani Vengeant.

Can I sacrifice Hexmage in response to playing Ajani, BEFORE opponent activates one of Ajani's abilities?

Let's think about this logically. HOW would you do that? While Ajani is on the stack, it is not a legal target for the Hexmage's ability. When it resolves, the active player (likely the person who cast Ajani) has priority to activate Ajani's abilities. Do you see anywhere that you can do what you are proposing in this sequence of events?

That's not how the stack works. If an item on the stack resolves, everything on the stack doesn't resolve as well. Every item on the stack must resolve separately and individually, one at a time. So yeah, you can use the Flashfreeze.

1: No, unless an ability says it can.

2: Yes, unless an ability says it can't.

3: All permanents will be affected by summoning sickness, provided they are also creatures. You can activate its ability any time you have priority, provided there isn't an effect that would keep you from activating it (Pithing Needle)

4: Yes, unless there is an ability that gives them Haste.

  • posted a message on Planeswalker ability priority
After whatever Planeswalker it is resolves, the active player will regain priority. The Hexmage's ability cannot be played unless the player controlling the Hexmage has priority. So no, the Hexmage can't bypass the rules of the stack.

Lands can only be played on an empty stack, when you have priority, even though it is a special action and doesn't use the stack.

In YOUR scenario, what your opponent did was illegal because after Hedron Crab resolves (barring any triggered abilities), you regain priority and your opponent cannot play Lightning Bolt until he has priority and the crab is not a legal target for Lightning Bolt until it finishes resolving.
