    Welp, here's another set to catch the Return to Ravnica hype.

    Actually, I've been working on this set a while ago ('a while' being two or three years, I vividly recall one of the cards in the original set became Untamed Might. It was almost done (237/285) until I realized that I didn't like where the set was going (I'll elaborate on this very soon), so I took a break in card creation, wrote a novel and a half, took over a business, sang in a few gigs, and did a lot of miscellaneous stuff, and here I am again. What can I say, I love creating cards.

    So, back to the topic.

    Beyond the Guildpact is set on the plane of Ravnica, a thousand years after the events in the original block. What happened between that millennium? Not much. The original Guildpact was broken, all hell broke loose for a while, and the powers realize that they still need some sort of pact to keep the city-plane from imploding. So meetings were called, people were gathered, and another pact, simply known as the Covenant, was drawn. After that, things were as usual. Well, not exactly as usual. The events surrounding the dissolution of the Guildpact has fundamentally changed the guilds, but it was alright - things change over time, especially over the course of a thousand years.

    Now let's take a look at the new guilds. One very significant change is that all the guilds are now tri-colored. While all of them still have a unique guild mechanic, each guild mechanic is a recurring keyword that's been brought back from some time in Magic's past. In the original design of BtG, some guilds had recurring keywords and some had new ones. It just didn't feel right for me, so I made everything recurring, and you can treat this block as not just a Ravnica sequel but also a Time Spiral sequel.

    The Ravnica 11K block, just like the original block a thousand years before, has a 4-3-3 structure. The four guilds that appear in the first set are:

    Azorius (GWU) - Guild mechanic: Champion. The Azorius lawmakers were the ones who suggested on a new Guildpact. They retain their old role of maintaining and enforcing the city-plane's laws. The Azorius convene at Prahv, a massive complex of offices and jails. The Azorius doesn't have a guild leader, as the Covenant guides everything they do.

    Boros (WBR) - Guild mechanic: Battle cry. The Boros were once an organized and respected police force, but suffered greatly after the loss of Razia and Parhelion. Now they're nothing more than a group of thugs with a badge. The squads of the League meet at the crash site of the Parhelion. Their guild leader is Sarateva, an angel with blood-tipped wings and a visage of dark fury, manifested by their fanaticism.

    Golgari (GUB - Guild mechanic: Retrace. In its quest to master life and death, plundered ruined Simic vaults of knowledge. There they have learnt not only the secrets of life, but also how to craft it from nothingness and evolve it. This knowledge helped them produce food for the starving masses. The Golgari meet at Svogthos, once a living tomb of the guild's progenitor, now a teeming archive of plant and animal specimens. Their guild leader is the lich lord Jarad.

    Gruul (RGW) - Guild mechanic: Landfall. Once homeless savages who roamed the brink of civilization, the cyclops leaders of the Gruul clans saw the events of the Guildpact as an opportunity to be recognized again. They offered to help rebuild the city, something that could have brought their warring ancestors to shame. The clans of Gruul assemble at a camp built over the ruins of Skarrg. Their guild leader is a cyclops named Krugle.

    The second set of the Beyond the Guildpact block features the Izzet, Orzhov and Rakdos guilds.

    The third set will include cards from the Simic, Dimir and Selesnya guilds.

    Shrieking Hallows - In addition to being overpowered and unfun, the other reason that instant speed discard isn't that common is this:

    New Player A: OK, I'm gonna cast the last card in my hand.
    New Player B: Hold on, in response I cast Shrieking Hallows.
    ... and they adjourn the game to argue whether the spell gets cast or not.
