I dont think she has a clue. So I dont think this was a hint at all.

I mostly think they just had her sign the rights for it being digital and in paper blah blah blah and she just assumes it will one day (based on nothing really).

I just wouldnt put much stock into this comment.

Nothing says you have to play what everyone else is playing. Make a rogue deck and tune it. Once you know the deck you built yourself intimately, you'll start pulling out wins over opponents who net-decked playable_deck_1452.dec

You can also try to play the anti-deck. Examine the meta and build a rogue that answers the most common threats. I did that with Legacy decks in Vintage tournaments, and I've seen people do it with Standard decks in Extended tournaments.

Also, look into almost-cards. Can't afford Dark Confidant? go a little more controlling and use Phyrexian Arena instead. Going slower in black also means you can go back to IoK or Duress instead of Thoughtseize. Don't like the price tag on Kitchen Finks? Spike Feeder was the old version of this (a 2-threat for 3 that gives you 4 life), is modern-legal, and is super cheap. This will let you make decks that play similarly to those you've seen, but won't break your back to acquire.

Yes, you'll probably lose a lot by doing this, but at least you'll get to play. And your new modern teammates might even lend you decks for big events.

The bolded is terrible terrible advice... When making cheap decks (which I agree can be done) dont ever use worse versions of a popular card. It just makes your deck worse than people who have those cards. You end up playing a gimped version of a deck people are planning on playing... it wont go well.

Youre way better off trying something new and unexpected then a worse version of what they expect.

What % of people have to agree an item has value for it to go from 'just paper' to paper?

Point is - your Jace has value even if you don't value it. Throwing cards away at packs because a Jace is 'just paper' is an absurdity. Is $25 'just paper' cause you could easily have gotten that for your Jace in cash and more in credit and yet more in trading. Swapping a card for packs is such horrible EV. Considering something near worthless because you don't use it/need it is foolish. I work for a company owned by Jewish brothers, we sell Christmas items. They don't use them so they must be worthless, huh. Guess I'll let them know what idiots they are.

You really arent listening at all are you? Why would you call them idiots? I never once said people who want Jace are idiots. You guys said people who dont want him are idiots. And youre an idiot if you trade him for less than your perceived value (even if youre much happy with what you get). I know Jace has value (everything in the world does) but its not a set value. Its just whatever youi value it at (unlike money which has a set value to everyone).

How is the Jewish people owning a company at all like this? Theyre getting rid of the stuff for something that want? Thats exacty what im saying people should do with the Jace if they dont want it. You guys are the ones jumping down my throat telling me im wrong for not keeping it or trading it for what you consider to be worth it. I honestly dont at all understand how you think that analogy makes any sense. It would be more like if you ran in one day going 'stop selling this stuff you idiot! you can get way more more for it! people love christmas. DONT SELL IT FOR THAT!'.

POINT IS - The packs have value too: $4. You just cant possibly get over yourself to see that maybe someone doesnt like a card you like and would rather have the value shifted to those. Theyre not giving him away for free, theyre getting about 10 packs which is $40 in value.

Im not sure why people are so self centered that they cant understand people can want what they want. This doesnt effect you yet you guys are all calling people who do this idiots and such cause they have fun with it.

You know money is, ''still just paper,'' too right?

Yea and I knew someone would say that... but its universally accepted as currency. You can use your money anywhere in the world to buy anything (thats for sale atleast). Its paper... but maybe not 'just' paper. Unless we want to get real meta.

I've spent under $100 on RTR easily. I have 10 shock lands, a foil shockland, 2 Jace, a crapton of $4-15 rares, all the money uncommons x4+. Not to even mention cards from other sets I've obtained via trading.

I don't have a standard deck built but I draft 1-3 times a week and could easily shuffle my desirable cards into Bant or America control within a day or so.

Draft, open/get passed decently, do well (12-3 in paper currently in games), get credit instead of packs, trade cards/trade cards in, repeat.

Having to spend a lot of money on magic cards is just a myth. Don't buy packs to crack them. Buy singles, if you are decent draft, trade. Easy.

Haha sorry you didnt get what I was saying. Meant as a slight joke that playing Magic is a waste of money cause all you get for your money is cardboard which is worth pennies. So you spent like $100 for some sheets of paper... thats what I mean by its a waste of money. You might have paper you like a lot but its still just paper.

The point is you have fun with it. Which is what I wanted people to take from it. There are tons of people in the world that would think of you as crazy for spending $100 on paper cards. So lets not look down on our fellow Magic players.

Well, why not do the opposite and trade the Jace for shocks? Or "Card X", where card x is whatever cards you really want? Jace is a hot ticket item after all.

What's better, trade Jace directly for whatever cards you really want, or trade Jace for packs that contain who-the-hell-knows? Unless you're drafting with the packs or something, I don't understand.

    Quote from Dakhwon
Because trading it in to a store at 33% value to buy a small chance at getting something you want is a lot dumber than trading it for full value for the specific thing you want.

If you crack a Jace, and you want shocks, trade the Jace for 3-4 of the shocks you want. To sell the Jace to the store to crack more packs and hope you happen upon a shockland is foolishly stupid.

Totally agreed its better to trade it straight up... I mentioned thats what I would do if you read what I said. Im just saying I can see why someone would do it for packs. Like I said if you have a good trade community at your store I would do that... Im not sure if everyone does or knows people and such. Also there is a convenience factor.

Also you seem to have got it in your heads I was saying I would trade the Jace for packs to try to get shocks... which isnt at all what I said. I said I would rather have almost any cards then Jace. Its not a small chance I would get something I like more than Jace with all the packs he would get me (I see no way 10 packs wouldnt have any cards I want). Its almost a lock since 75% of the rares I like more. The only mention I made of shocks was in reference to the guy who said 'why not trade some shocks to get another Jace so you have multis', I was responding saying Id rather have the shocks so I wouldnt make that trade. I wasnt saying I would trade the Jace for packs to try to get shocks. Im not sure how that was so misunderstood.

Again I agree trading with a person is best... but if for some reason you dont see people really I can see this. People seem to get too stuck on the $ value of a card when really idgaf what its worth. I care how much fun ill have with it. Thats why when I opened a Jace 4 days ago I jumped on here and traded him for cards id like. If I couldnt do that I would have gladly taken 10 packs for him.

That's another thing I don't understand. Why would you refuse to use or get a certain card?

You could easily trade 3 shocks for a jace, maybe throw something in. But instead, Jace is too good for you, or what? Why refuse to even want a card?

I thought I explained it... but Ill do it again. I only have one... I dont find the card (or decks that use it) particularly fun. So Id rather keep the shocks then trade for another Jace. One Jace isnt of much use to me.

I dont have the funds to build every deck in the world (maybe you do) so I only worry about building decks I find fun. Seeing as he doesnt fit that bill (not a control fan tbh) why would I want him over other cards that I do find fun?

Keep in mind I never said I would refuse to take a Jace. Ill take any card... Id just much rather have other cards than a Jace, even if you see him as a valuable card. Its not so much that I refuse to want him, as I want otehr cards much much more and realistically I dont have the money to buy every single card there is.

Answer me this... Why should I keep a card i dont find fun over cards I do?

I'm sure there's someone like that out there, but whenever I play poker, and I end up $100 for the night, I don't say "let me now throw this $100 on roulette, and if I win, I'll keep going until I lose. I want to walk out of here with nothing." I don't know anyone who does, either- they're happy when they win and they go home with the money.

I think his point is that no one says theyre going to keep going until they have nothing (including the pack openers). They say theyre just gonna open a few more until they hit that 'big prize'. Thing is they usually lose out before they hit it.

Anyway I can see why people do this if they like to play more then have 'money cards' like myself. Ive never actually seen someone do it but I get it. I have Magic cards for 1 reason... to play them. If I open a Jace hes useless to me, 100% worthless since im never going to spend money to get another and really im not interested in a deck using him. So id glady trade him in for packs which I might only get a few 'crappy' rares worth $5-10 but I would actually use them all the time... so to me they have more value.

Granted if your area has good trade scene its better to just trade but I can still see some appeal in this if youre in it for the fun and not money.... and lets be hoenst. Playing Magic at all is a huge waste of money... you pay hundreds of dollars for cardboard.

The ENTIRE reason for this set is to introduce more modern staples into circulation. Being able to draft this set is gravy, nothing more, considering if its a small print run it'll be sold out within a few weeks of being released. Whether it feels mythic is irrelevant.

So, are they really solving this issue giving us a mythic rare in a short run set? Without having full details about exactly how big the print run will be, I think the answer is no. The product will be highly successful from a sales perspective, but probably won't actually help out players like it is meant to.

I truly believe in order for modern to the signature eternal format wizards wants it to be, you need to be able to build any top tier deck for between $200 - $300.

I think thats a bit on the low side... mana bases will be taking up like half that. Fetches and Shocks and such arent going to drop much in price even with being reprinted since everyone wants them and as many as they can get.

I get what youre saying (no $700+ decks) and I agree, but 200-300 seems low when you realize easily over 100-150 is in the mana.

Well here's a reason it wont be draftable, 2 of the 3 things you listed won't be in the booster packs. 8th to Alara.

Pyromancer's Ascension is also not in this so that really kills alot of storm.

It will be draftable if they want it to...Past in Flames not being in it hurts but Storm was around before that card even came out and worked just fine. Pyromancer's Ascension is worthless in storm imo, some like it but you def dont need it, for me its always been a 'win more' card. Ive never won a game cause of it, ive just won by more. Instead of doing 25 damage on turn 3 I can do 50+.

You can ramp mana with Desperate Ritual, Seething Song, Simian Spirit Guide, Manamorphose, well thats not really a ramp card but still... Then Grapeshotwith Pyromancer’s Swath. If you have to Remand the Grapeshot and recast.

Not a prefect decklist (what draft is?) but its certianly doable.

    ***DISCLAIMER***
I know that these are not the real odds, but I am just using some numbers for reference

Let's say that you had a 1/15 chance of pulling a Jace worth $50. Pretty good, right? That is saying that he is at rare. At mythic, it would be more like 1/40. If you could consistently pull huge money cards out of packs, the price of packs would skyrocket. This would put the demand for these cards over the top. I realize that the demand is already high, but the mythic rarity helps keep the prices down.

The Jace wouldnt be worth $50 anymore if it was 1/15 (or whatever). The demand isnt increasing only the supply. So it would drop the price... a ton. Also packs would never go up in price since then people would just buy them at Walmart or where ever for $4. Mythics only raise the price.

Thats said I dont have a problem with Mythics and the Mythics being in this set. I just want playable rares too.

    Quote from DrWorm
I think people guessing about rarity should think about the fact that this is not a flavor set, it is a "get cards to the players and make a boat load of money*" set. The designation of whether a card is rare or mythic rare will probably have nothing to do with how it feels, rather it will have to do with how many they feel they need to get in to the hands of players while keeping money grubbing dealers and collectors reasonably happy. If the card is worth a lot now, it has a pretty good chance of being Mythic in this set (IMO). These cards are much if more likely to fall in the catagory of value = rarity.

That brings up an interesting (not really) point. MaRo has said that he is opposed to lands being mythic in all but the most specialized circuumstances. So will that true if my above hypothesis is correct? Mutavault is easily a staple, and it is pricey, so if it is included would it be mythic? Maybe, but on the other hand it is a card that can go in more decks than most others (so there is a desire for more of them than many other cards), and it is land.

*As long as the numbers are good, there is nothing wrong with that idea.

I think this could be considered one of the special occasions. I mean its a reprint of a card that may never have been reprinted just to add a few more the pool of cards. That sure sounds like a very specialized circumstance. Though I wouldnt complain if it was rare since I dont have any. The reasoning (I think) for lands never being mythic is so that something thats as basic of a need a land (think shocks, fetches) wont be that hard to get/expensive (imagine if shocks were mythic). In this case its not making it hard to get by being mythic since the entire point of this is to make more so theyre easier to get. So even at mythic, it is making it easier to obtain.

Okay, suit yourself. I would rather have $40 than $0

But if you have them to play with them youll have $0. So the only way you have any money is if you sell them. Them printing more will not in any way shape or form change how the ones you have play. You will have the exact same thing as before.

If you dont want to play with them and only want the money then go sell them now. You can still get that precious money. If you want them to play with them, then what do you care what theyre worth?

I personally dont care what my cards are worth. Once I own them I use them to play with. If they drop in value oh well they still power my deck exactly the same as before.

Maybe its because people like me have Goyfs and are upset about the drop in value...

This has always sort of irked me... If youre playing Magic as an investment then youre sending your money wrong. There are better ways to invest money. Its a game... No one should be mad that other people might be able to play it too. I could understand if they did something catastrophic like free 4 Goyfs for everyone or something that would realllly mess up things but this just makes its slightly easier for people to get them. Its a minor price drop, and you shouldnt have just owned the Goyfs cause they had value. Obviously im stating all this as an opinion on the game, not a be all end all of what if right and wrong.

Anyway im very pumped about this and excited to see what will be included in the set. Honestly most of all im excited for the new art and in cards like Goyfs case new frame. I honestly could never stand him cause that ugly frame.

    Not true. Hypothetical situtation:

Ok so I have an Overgrown Tomb and no other forests or swamps. The other player is attacking me with say a Llanowar Elf and a Diregraf Ghoul with an Elvish Champion and a Zombie Master on the field. So under that assumption I can either block the elf or the zombie correct? I'll answer the question no I can not block either because the Overgrown Tomb clearly states that its Swamp Forest.

I understand the having to sacrifice two lands to Jarad to return him to your hand, but don't make up some ridiculous nonsense like that.

It not ridiculous nonsense, its the truth hes just didnt explain it well (though you should have been able to figure it out). It cant be both at the same time to one source. It cant be a Swamp and a Forest to one thing at the same time, but those are 2 different sources. It can be a Swamp to one, and a Forest to the other.
