he used to be a finisher when there was goblin piledriver and goblin warchief. right now, i don't think so. he is too vulnerable to bolt and will die awfully to fallout. id rather use shivan dragon
Yeah. Obviously SG is dead now, but Mill looks to be gearing up. It was such a good deck for a while there too* and I will miss it. I hope that all the folks here stay with it and work through the next round. The future of mill deck might go: UU UW UB
and maybe even: UBW
and there is even reason for me to believe that these can work: UWR URG UG UGW
It'll be a crazy month and once the spoilers come out, I think we'll have a pretty solid idea how to proceed. But until then, bite your tongues.
*I am not even talking post-Lor, I mean that it was good until we lost Evacuation and Boomerang.
First game against a deck with a Jund Flavor playing KftR. Not too challenging, dealt with everyone of his threats via burn. Game to he boarded in life gainers, reverence, finks and the hammer.
After dropping Everlasting Torment he stopped gaining life from his wall, Finks that was cascaded in had no use and the hammer he swung with once did nothing. The Wither also broke his wall down 2 turns before 2 demigod got him.
2nd game Vs. Soldiers
Won 1st game.
2nd game made 3 mistakes, one of which might have cahnged the outcome of the game.
Lost the 3rd
3rd game was against mirror, kind of= R/G
Lost both games out right, skilled player.
All in all Everlasting Torment showed up to play today and helped out alot.
I just have to continue honing my skills.
Until next week.
Why can't we talk about this deck post rotation? There is little to say anymore since 'Sanity Grinding' will be dead in just a couple weeks. We should be allowed to take this discussion there, its not off topic at all!
I'm super excited, that card seems crazy!! Even without Cryptic, I'm encouraged to find a way to continue to play mill now
Just go to new card discussion uder the rumors section and stuff.
Can this actually work?
T1: Island, Tome Scour (60-7-1-5=47)
T2: Drowned Catacombs, Essence Scatter. (46)
T3: Island, Mind Funeral (45-9=36)
T4: Glacial Fortress, Path to Exile--> Archive Trap--> Twincast. (35-26=9)
T5: Plains, Wall of Denial.
T6: Swamp, Haunting Echoes. WINWIN.
OR
T1: Swamp, pass. (60-7-1=52)
T2: Island, Tome Scour (51-5=46)
T3: Island, Jace Beleren (45)
T4: Swamp, Essence Scatter. (43)
T5: Glacial Fortress, Path to Exile. (41)
T6: Island, Twincast-->Mind Funeral (39-9-9=21)
T7: Island, Sphinx of Lost Truths (19)
T8: Plains, Essence Scatter. Haunting Echoes. and further gg!
As bad as cascading into Negate or Essence Scatter would be, the deck doesn't have many other ways to generate card advantage and I worry that it might not be fast enough on its own without gambling on hitting the Mind Funeral.
Alternative option: Getting rid of all countermagic in the maindeck in favor of Enigma Sphinx and Kathari Remnant so that there would be a guarantee of cascading into something sick. The Sphinx could even cascade into a Nemesis of Reason, Archive Trap itself, or Day of Judgement.
NO!
Rely on esper charm and Jace to draw yourself to it.
If you have doubts print proxies and test it!
It's official... Grinding is not dead when the rotation happens. Sure we lose Sanity Grinding, but they just spoiled a Trap on Wizards website. Sick, just sick. If your opponent searched their library this turn (i.e. Enemy Fetches), pay 0 as an INSTANT to mill 13 cards. Before you even take a turn... you can smack someone upside the head BIG time.
I just know we're gonna come up with something fun for after rotation.
Can you imagine Path of exile their creature, then they search, BAM - Trap, Milling 13-52 AND thinning lands for your funeral........its is time to print proxies and start testing!!!!!
I think Ball Lightning will be considered in a different light once Zendikar arrives. We lose Ram-Gang and Flame Javelin, 2 auto includes from Lorwyn block and want to fill the spot. However...its still a little early to tell.
If only there where no Vampire Nighthawk or Shambling remains
because our main problem with a mainboard terminate is it doesnt go to head(or hit bft, but for this argument that point is null) I think hideous end is worth testing as it clears the way while helping to get us there. It also deals with barnslayer which i can see being big post rotation. the only problem i have right now is how popular are vampires going to be? I personally could see myself running them
Barnslayer is big but unless she comes off her high horse in price we might not see her so much.
Hideous end is not terminate.
both card are meant to kill a creature, one is one more mana than the other.
That one mana could mean the difference between life and death or casting a spell, to leave mana available, or not to cause damage.
Termiante all the way (especially with Brenton forge tender gone. Thank god!)
I am thinking along the lines of both you guys, but with some differences. I think hiedeous end has a spot in the archtype, at least as a 2 of and I would run both the 1 drop goblin and the 1 drop vampire. 8 2/2s for one can really give us the racing potential. I think sign in blood will be great for giving us more gas, as we waste theirs with blightning, and I think the recursion vampire will be good in some of the ways that hellspark is, It is a deadly repeated threat. I also think quest for the gravelord is terrible for this archtype, as i does nothing on its own, an takes a fair amount of set up to get any effect
Quest of gravelord possible T1
hellspark t2=1 counter
remains or nighthawk T3 When dealt with = 2 counters, ave T4
Lightning bolt, terminate, volcanic fallout their creatures T5. sack 5/5 T5 not too hard and NO mana investment.
@HoundofKonda
I don't like Goblin Guide... he could help the enemy more than it hurts him a lot of the time.
Otherwise your deck seems really tempo-oriented (though I'd cut back on the citp lands if I was running that list), but it'll be real hard, especially if one of your key cards is Hell's Thunder to take down Vampires (which I predict will become big at least for the beginning of post-rotation, if not long-lasting)
I'm not sure about Goblin Outlander either... white decks are strong so far, but there are definitely other colors to worry about.
I was gonna say why I didn't like Goblin Guide but thinking about it a 2nd time, it IS a 2/2 haste for 1. I'm not sure about my stance on it, but so far it's a "frown"- might change though...
3/5 of my fnm playing friends so far are collecting Vampire decks, so I decided to go another route, white or rb or rg. Since I had most the cards already I decided to try RB first.
Here's my decklist so far if anyone has suggestions/opinions-
mostly burn/discard with a couple real efficient creatures.
Yes I saw that. I saw that there would be improvement if terminate made it MD.
I am just not sure which to shift out.
Maybe -2 hellion & -1 banefire & -1 Volcanic Fallout?
I will see how my meta develops. I do not think there will be too many baneslayers.
Baneslayers = Terminate
I don't agree that blightning need run 28 lands. It runs 24 because blightning is an any10 deck. Any 10 cards wins the game. If you're going to run 28 you need to run ad nauseum which we can't really support in the deck with the fixing rotating out.
