It is hard to argue against WotC's reasoning for banning Second Sunrise. I was slightly surprised they hit Sunrise rather than Lotus Bloom or Reshape, but they are correct it is the card in the deck that is the most narrow. Removing it from the format hurts other decks much less than removing one of the other options.

Eggs did not get a ban for power reasons. Eggs did not get a ban for being too fast. Eggs got banned for the same reason Sensei's Divining Top got banned. It slowed down tournaments.

Not just slow, bad, mediocre players either. Everyone who played it had the potential to drag out the tournament for a round. It is possible, albeit unlikely, for an aggro vs aggro deck to go to time. Control vs Control is more likely. The point is, sometimes a match will go to time. When a match goes to time, extra turns start. Active player turn 0, Nonactive player turn 1, all the way to 5 turns total (we all know this, I know). Assuming an eggs player is in a match that has gone to time, what do you think he or she will do on turn 4 or 5? The only option is to attempt to go off. There is no drawback for that individual player. When an eggs player attempts to go off, that turn will take 10 or more minutes.

So every time an eggs player goes to time, they will take a 10 minute turn, it would be stupid not to. This doesn't even account for eggs players being more likely to go to time, which I am sure is the case. Many pros have said in articles they considered playing it, but dismissed for fear of going to time.

Other than what got cooked for breakfast, I am so excited about the Modern format now. I am a huge advocate and currently have a 9 deck paper gauntlet (planning on adding 3 more soon). It is extremely fun and fulfilling. It is a highly interactive format that rewards knowledge of the format and of one's own deck. If you are considering whether to jump in, I suggest diving. There is a huge array of decks and deck types to play.

Modern magic is about creatures and combat. There is room for decks without creatures, but they must be interactive. Decks like ANT and High Tide are fun to play, but it is honestly a different kind of magic. Decks that can interact with each other are more fun to play against each other.

First I want to say that I love Jace TMS. I want to name my first born son, and possibly second, Jace, because I love that card.

With that in mind, I do not see Jace coming off the list. Without Bloodbraid Elf there is just no way WoTC does that. I could be wrong, but I would almost be willing to say I would eat all 6 of my copies if they unbanned it. Almost. It is possible, but I really don't think Jace fits into WotC's vision of what modern should look like.

Bitterblossom maybe comes off. Fae would be Tier 1. Idk if it would be too good. But Spell Snare and Abrupt Decay seem to help its case. That card is very strong though. I don't think this time.

Golgari Grave Troll. I think this one comes off. The dredgevine lists I have been seeing lately barely even play stinkdrinker imp, so i don't think GGT pushes it over the edge. It would make the deck better but not break it.

Ancestral will almost for sure stay banned as well. I don't think blue needs the help. WUR is very well positioned as is. More likely than Jace.

I JUST WANT A GOOD CANTRIP PLEASE! Idc ponder or preordain, but PLEASE?!?!?!?!

However, I'm pretty sure if Jace were unbanned, he wouldn't suddenly make every deck in the format blue, he only really works in the right shell.

    I.e. decks with islands.

So I wish Beck/Call was just Beck. I want to cut it in half. Maybe they will release a Beck(no call) promo. But should make for an interesting GU(x) deck.

Render Silent is not good enough for modern. There are better options to hate out eggs. There are better counterspells at 3 (counterflux) and 3 mana for a counterspell is very slow. When your opponent casts a Dark Confidant and a Liliana before your counterspell comes online, you will probably regret playing it (unless its Cryptic Command).

I'm still on WotCs side. I don't think the list is perfect. I do think it is very close. I have my set of Jace and wish he was unbanned, but I realize why he is banned. The same goes for SFM, BBE, and the rituals. I do think it is true that these cards would create decks, but only at the expense of other decks. Having aggro in the format is very important. Now we are starting to see it pop up in different forms (GW, GR, Naya). It was a much less common sight before the last ban. I could see the reasoning for unbanning Nacatl. But I think it obsoletes other aggro strategies. Why play Exp 1 when kitty is already a 3/3?

I do think Grave Troll can safely come off. Dredgevine has been flirting with being a serious contender for a while, I think it would give it the push it needs with out making it the best deck. Ancestral can come off too, but that will only make the UWR better, so I think it will never happen. Blue needs a reasonable cantrip not a powerful card draw effect.

Reshape is the card that I think will get hit. Eggs slows down tournaments and gives the format a bad rep. No one cares about a combo that dies to lightning bolt or path to exile. No one cares about a combo that takes 7 lands to kill you. People care about losing turn 3/4 and having to watch your opponent goldfish for 10 minutes. I think eggs is an awesome deck, but playing against it is terrible. And on modo it is torture.

Geist will not be banned. It encourages people to play creatures. That is what wizards wants.

This article says the banned list is getting a bit longer. No more infinite combos.

So a lot of people here agree that eggs could likely get a banning come may. What do you think will be banned from the deck: Reshape, Lotus Bloom, or something else? Would it make the deck obsolete or at least remove it from the meta like storm?

Personally. I think Reshape is the better card to ban. Slows the deck down to turn 4 and makes it way less consistent. I assume that it would probably make the deck unplayable or close to it.

I think Maze's End is going to break modern. No just kidding. It is unplayable. In EDH it could have a real home and be a legitimate win condition. In modern, it is just way way too slow. As stated earlier in the thread, Scapeshift wins with 7 lands, this take 10.

I like the name Geist Red for this deck. It is very simple and says a lot. I also suggest having 4 Path to Exiles in the 75 preferably MD. Goyf can be troublesome for the deck, and it is the only answer for Loxodon Smiter.

I expect Eggs to get hit by the banned list for 2 reasons. First, it can make tournaments go way longer. As long as you and your opponent have resolved mulligans for game 2/3 before time is called, eggs can win, and so on turn 4 or 5 of extra turns, they will attempt to go off. This can take 10 minutes for that turn and still end in a draw. Second, I don't think most people like the deck. No one wants to be on the other side of an omelette being cooked. Playing against that deck one too many times could be a reason for a person to leave the format.

TL;DR: Eggs may get the hammer because of tournament logistics and animosity towards the deck.

He doesn't fight a Wurmcoil Engine very well. Doesn't mean he won't see play, but if he does Engine gets better. I can't think of a better foil.

Also doesn't seem good to cast him if you will still be behind on board somehow, since then you can't use your noncreature spells as effectively to catch up.

Other than those two things, he seems solid.

Needle seems better than Teeg. It has a lot of targets vs tron. It hits the splinter twin piece you think they have. It hurts pod. Can help against eggs. Depends on the situation, but a lot of times naming ghost quarter would probably be good. Thanks

Has anyone tried Gaddock Teeg for the tron matchup? Only hates on Karn, but that might be good. It also stops splinter twin but I'm sure they bring in removal. Still, better Gaddock than Bob.

And in general, how is the Tron matchup, it is the one I'm most worried about. Is Mindcensor plus Stony Silence out of the board good enough to swing the matchup?

Other than flying, why do some people play Baneslayer Angel over Batterskull?

I don't like any Gatecrash cards for this deck. Tapping out usually feels really bad, so I think Compulsive Research should be cut. Careful Consideration hasn't been good enough. Electrolyze and Repeal both need to be in the deck. Sphinx's Revelation might be the raw card advantage card the deck needs. The life gain is relevant. Walkers can be a problem, which is why Detention Sphere and Oblivion Ring are fantastic. I lost to an ultimated Elspeth the last time I played this against Geist. Humility is an awesome card, but if it is in play I have a hard time winning. Few of my walkers can finish a game by themselves. Ruhan is my main win con. He sucks with humility out. So for this build I don't like Humility. Boros Charm isn't bad for the reasons Emether stated. I'm not going to play it in this version though.

Edit: I should also have Tectonic Edge in my list. One wasteland is not enough.
