What were the problems? I'm curious because how can they **** up a simple ebay transaction?
You'd think so right?
So he bought a card on Friday and didn't pay until Monday. Then on Tuesday when I'm just about to ship he buys two more cards. I invoice him $0 shipping on the new stuff because I assume he wants me to ship everything together. We converse about some other stuff I have listed that he tries to talk me down on, during which he casually mentions that I can ship everything in the same package.
He then doesn't pay for the new stuff until Friday, at which point I tell him I'm ready to ship. He then complains that he thought I shipped everything on Monday and that his window to resell the first card has passed. So he tells me he just wants to cancel everything, even the cards he just paid for (with free shipping) the day before.
We go back and forth about who's fault the miscommunication was, and I end up having to apologize (even though I was just trying to do what I thought he wanted me to do) and kiss his bum just to avoid negative feedback. My subservient attitude works and he agrees to go through with the deal. I held my breath until he left feedback though, as I've had 100% for a year.
Most people? How so? Whenever someone offers me a split, I feel they are doing it because they feel their deck is weaker than mine. Remember that online you get to watch other people's replays. I decline splits politely, and I can't imagine others don't typically do the same.
So by that logic, since you never offer the split, your deck is never weaker than your opponent's?
Just finished up a deal with them. I know I swore I'd never deal with them again, but this time they bought from me on ebay, so I didn't have a lot of choice. Obviously there were problems. I added them to my blocked buyers list and hopefully I don't ever have to talk to them again.
It's playable. Is it that good? No. If you personal tutor, you're basically eating a card (spending 2 cards to get 1 card) for a land drop and an attack phase. Brainstorm is a far better way to do it.
Cheers
I agree with this point. So it's 3 mana over 2 turns to untap the rest of your lands and get another attack step/planeswalker use/etc. Doing it turn 1 is pretty pointless, and drawing Tutor in the mid-late game is pretty bad, especially when your board is weak and you need a miracle.
Honestly, Explore seems to be just about as good in most cases.
When what's his face was selling those Italian FUT boxes at $110 each I ran the numbers and at that price you'd just about break even. So at $200, you're losing big time.
That old bordered all foil is amazing. Bravo on the idea and actually finishing it. I have to ask how the deck plays, because it looks like just an old, old goodstuff deck. It looks like it would either do well or fall flat.
I have to admit, it ain't super smooth. The manabase is a pain, especially when trying to cast my general, and the lack of synergy makes me pretty reliant on certain cards. Like any goodstuff deck, if I draw the wrong pieces they may not come together smoothly. And Crystal Quarry is actually one of the best cards in the deck, heh.
I've only played it a handful of times though, so I may evolve the deck a bit to find more esoteric stuff to include. Unfortunately, new sets don't really help me.
...I click on the link and on our gatherer it says that it's still right about $17.
Most stores are slow to react with quickly dropping cards, especially since as recently as a month ago they probably were raising their buy prices to meet demand.
Checking ebay, basically all of the playsets are auctioning for under $60. If someone doesn't want to use ebay, they are looking at even less ($13ish) for a quick sale.
For the reasons mentioned above, it's probably worth spending a few hours pulling out the cards that are worth something ($2+) and selling them on their own, apart from the bulkish stuff. Most people just see those as freebies anyway, so there's no point in giving them away if there's value. At the very least you can sell the bulk rares for $0.10-0.15 each.
I'd say just use ebay for the most part. Just get all the playsets together and list those, then all the singles over $5 you can list individually without much loss. The rares between $1 and $5 you should try to sell to a dealer. You can go with one dealer or split it up among a couple. Just be sure to do a quick check to see if they are reputable. The last thing you want if you're selling out is a drawn out hassle to get your money.
I just got paid on 3/26 for an order I sent them on 2/18. That's 37 days for those counting. About 1/3 of my order (money-wise) was shipped back to me for condition not being up to par, but thankfully that only took about 2 weeks. And I know some of them are in exactly the same condition as some of the ones they accepted.
What enzie said really opened my eyes though. That's definitely how they operate in terms of turnaround time etc, but I never thought about the implications of why it takes so long, or how little they seem to value the buyers. ANY communication would be nice, especially when your money is on the line.
Even though their prices are really tempting (they just paid me $9 for Solemn Simulacrum) I think their practices are pretty sketchy, and one of these days I'm going to have a big problem that they most likely won't be able or willing to fix.
The big catch is condition though. A nick on the card or tiny edge wear on the back might cause the dealer to reject the card, or offer to buy it as "played" at a discounted rate, which is usually something ridiculous like 40% off.
I heard that the Snoopy alters were not noticed by the judges on day 1, even though they were captured on camera, and when they noticed them on day 2 he wasn't allowed to use them.
The new rules really makes me want to stop collecting altered cards. I think this may actually spell the beginning of the demise of the "fad" of altered cards.
Heh, yeah it looks like I left that part out. I actually broke my own rule and am using Progenitus. The only old face 5 color Legend that really makes sense outside of a tribal deck is Cromat, and it's just so underwhelming.
I finally finished my all foil deck. The idea was that I wanted to do an all foil deck as a collecting project, but I think that sometimes new face foils can be a little dull. So I decided to use all old face, pack foils. I love the bright, shining stars.
It's not super crazy, but the fact that all the cards are 10+ years old made picking them up in a most casual manner slightly more challenging. The deckbuilding limitation was interesting as well. I'll post the pics in a bit when I get it all together.

edit - My pronouns were all over the place.

Good choice on the Zen Islands though. I think that's the best picture of the bunch.

Okay, here it is:
