  • posted a message on Legend rule no longer applies to generals?
A local game store that I play with has a house rule that generals are unaffected by the legend rule. It is not an official rule.

Works fine. I'm not a huge fan, but as long as you know going in that clone effects aren't as good, it doesn't make a big difference.

If your argument is that Hermit Druid is unbanned, so Staff should be, that's an awful argument. Far too many people believe the Druid should be banned, and many of those who don't put it on the perilous edge.

You don't accidently break a card like Staff. You know what you're doing when you generate infinite mana.

I agree, you know what you are doing when you generate infinite mana. I've just looked at the board state and been surprised that I could, as a result of staff. Even without metalworker, there are plenty of creatures it just ends the game with.

Staff is one of those cards that ends up being degenerate whether you want it to or not.

The problem is its both an engine and an outlet. It not only combos to go infinite, but then it draws your deck as well.

Staff's combination of effects is simply too much. Even attempts to use it fairly can often result in "Oops, I win moments". Beyond that, in situations where it's going to be used fairly, there are likely better alternatives. So not only is it degenerate, it's occasionally degenerate without trying to be and not worth using where not degenerate. Pretty clear why it's on the banlist and should remain.

The card is not an auto-include. But I have access to pretty much every mana fixing land I could want (duals, fetches, shocks, filters, etc), and I find the card to be amazing depending on the deck.

The big thing that I've found is that having access to all your colors of mana with no basic lands and a Blood Moon on the table is something not worth ignoring.

A missed Clique trigger isn't really attributable to fatigue. I can't really excuse forgetting a Clique trigger ever. He wasn't playing Clique to block, he wasn't playing Clique for any reason other than to look at a hand and he just didn't do that. It's like playing a Lightning Helix and forgetting to gain life or playing Thoughtseize and forgetting to look at your opponent's hand.

    Completely disagree.

3 spells resolved between Clique being cast and resolving and coming into play.

Clique coming down there basically put his opponent on a 1 turn clock, so the focus is not only on the hand disruption.

He also may have not forgotten the trigger, but had forgotten that he had drawn 1 card since the clique had last resolved (of of the 1st cryptic command that did resolve).

Missing it based on fatigue in that situation, while a mistake, is absolutely a result of pressure and fatigue.

At least if you tap first, a judge can confirm you made an illegal play. Sajgalik announced his Mana Leak on the Remand, and then sought to redirect it when he realized he screwed up (which I think was the proper sequence). Ultimately he was forced to pay the two mana. Seems like a sequence made more confusing by the announce first rule.

Pretty sure he had tapped his lands before laying the mana leak. He went back and untapped them before the judge ruling discussion that followed. Not that it was an attempt to mislead or anything.

Tough way to lose the match. It has to hurt, and he screwed up and deserved to lose, but anyone insulting him for missing the Clique trigger is ridiculous. That match was in its 3rd hour, and beyond intense.

Is there a good argument to banning Trade Secrets?

It draws a few cards. It only draws a significant number if there is another player in the game who is a complete idiot. But my creatures might be unblockable if another player is an idiot, although I can't assume they are.

The card is not degenerate. The card is not a game ender unless combined with an additional moron. Games almost never accidentally revolve around this card. I mean, sure the format might be better if no one played it, but the same can be said for Squire so it's hardly an argument for banning. Is this card legitimately a problem for some people, or are they just arguing for its banning out of some misguided devil's-advocate position?

It's perfectly fine for him to ask for the scoop. It is not fine to expect it. If you don't ask for the concession, that's on you. If you ask and your opponent says no, that's well within his rights.

Either way, don't come to the forum complaining about it.

    Obscure, technically insane follow.

    Is the following legal?

I have an Oracle of Mul Daya in play. I play a land, saying it is my additional land from the Oracle. I blink the Oracle, say with Cloudshift. I play another land, also saying it is the additional land from the Oracle. My Oracle is killed. Then I play another land, using my regular land drop for the turn.

    Is that valid, or not?

    Thanks.

    Quote from daedalusaf

That got me thinking. I know player demand and speculation drives prices, but what, or who, sets the initial price? Why is, Cavern of Souls for example priced at 24.99 at SCG (and I presume other places as well), instead of 20.99, or 29.99? Is there an article or discussion regarding this?

The initial price is a guess. That is all. Based on how many orders at that price, it gets adjusted up or down. Eventually it will stabilize until market factors force change again.

Given that the card is clearly strong enough to be legacy playable (GP Indy winner), it most definitely has the power level and potential to hit the power uncommon price levels.

Libel is the wrong term too. Feel free to type "libel definition" into google to quickly understand why.

Nothing he did is really an offense that he can be sued for. So yes, your point is pretty wrong.

As for what he did, it wasn't right. It was rude. Banworthy? That is certainly less clear.

NO you can not call people names and stuff.
that is called slander and an offense for which you can be sued

Please learn what slander is before posting telling other people what you think it is.

    The actual definition:
    1. The action or crime of making a false spoken statement damaging to a person's reputation.
    2. Make false and damaging statements about (someone).

Taking a picture of someone and mocking them for being poorly dressed or fat is not slanderous.
