Nahiri could easily be in the set, yet NOT be Avacyn. She's trying to track down Sorin, and has no leads of any type. It stands to reason that she would easily have made his home plane her first destination to look for him.
I think it would be extremely flavorful for Avacyn to be corrupted. I mean, she was trapped in the Helvault alone with Griselbrand for how long, exactly? We don't know what happened in there at all, because all we've seen is the Vault breaking, Avacyn appearing and casting a world-altering mega spell, and Lili offing Griselbrand in pretty short order without him having a chance to say or do much.
Complete conjecture on my part: Being a construct of pure mana, Avacyn being in close proximity to the demonic Griselbrand corrupted her inwardly, just not immediately visibly. Maybe Gris did it on purpose, maybe he didn't, maybe it was completely accidental - he never got a chance to say. But she pops out changed, and no one immediately notices, because they're just happy to have her back again. She casts the cursemute, which at first glance is a good thing because all the bad stuff and evil things appear to be lessened. We don't know what the cursemute actually DID, or why she just immediately let fly with something strong enough to fundamentally alter the balance of the entire world. Everything is optimistic at the close of the original storyline, but maybe now that the dust has settled a little bit, it's possible that what came out of the Helvault wasn't the same Avacyn that went IN.
I was just thinking to myself today, "you know, I really need another Reya Dawnbringer-type effect in my Brion EDH...". And lo and behold, here we are!
I mentioned Brion in my post, he's a blast as a commander and definitely different than the aggro strategies the other Boros commanders push. My issue is that Brion is the ONLY Boros commander that's non-aggro.
The biggest problem with the current Boros commanders, to me, isn't so much that they're bad but more that they occupy the same design space. Iroas, Aurelia, Tajic, Jor Kadeen, Gisela, Anax and Cymede... All decent, fun commanders but also all aggro based. It can even be argued that Basandra is aggro based. That's 7 of the available 10. Of the remaining 3, only Brion is more control oriented.
I'd like to see a Boros commander that is more reactive and interactive, made for something other than mindless aggro. Maybe play a little more into the damage redirection aspect of cards like Deflecting Palm and Comeuppance. Like:
Master Martial Artist 2WR
Legendary creature - human monk
First strike, vigilance WR: prevent all damage that would be dealt to target creature or player this turn. Master martial deals that much damage to that source or that source's controller.

I'm just hoping that this is just them crafting the upcoming standard season rather than their long term strategy on mana dorks. I personally can't stand playing grindy midrange decks, and to me, a slower format with better quality creatures at the 3- and 4-drop spots and lots of jankyremoval just screams lots of midgrange mirror matches.
I don't care if Goblins are a thing in ANY format right now, this made me legit cheer. Back in ONS/MIR standard, I had 4 foil, Cavotta-autographed Piledrivers, and had all 4 stolen out of my binder. Ever since then, They'vebeen too pricey for me to buy more. Now I can have them back. God, I'm ecstatic about this...
Purphoros EDH is salivating over that red enchantment. All my critters burn the table upon entering the field already, why not tack on one mana for an extra 2 to the table and a hasty attacker?

Exactly! There's some very unique design space in Boros, other than just straight ahead aggro!

I know Feather is sentimental favorite (and she should be), but I'd LOVE a Belbe card.
BG legendary artifact creature - elf advisor? Come on!

Glorious.
