It's a big, splashy spell that will generate huge swings in EDH, but it's way too expensive and dependent on having a good board state to see play anywhere else.
Massive bomb rare in limited, but crew 4 over 3 is backbreaker in constructed. Lack of evasion is harsh too. EDH might like it for vehicle theme decks, assuming AER brings the total number of them up enough to support the theme.
Meh, Rishkar sounds like the at-least-one-per-block-BG-legend we are destined to get.
I'd love to see that color pair get forgotten for even a single block-
it has so many great toys already that it's embarrassing.
At least one per block? Other than The Gitrog Monster, there hasn't been a BG legend in a block that wasn't part of a cycle since Glissa, the Traitor. I know the BG combo gets sweet commanders, but they aren't really getting them at a higher rate anymore than other combos, especially not every block.
I'd run him in Breya EDH deck all day, helps smooth out mana as well as pumps out artifacts to fuel her. Not to mention his -2 will be even better when you're running a ton of artifacts in that deck, as well as his ultimate turning all the little thopter tokens and mana rocks into beatsticks!
4. Fridge horror time: Yahenni's first kill gets her 12 extra days. Her second gets her 10. Maybe it depends on the vitality of the victim, but that's a clear cut indication of diminishing returns. So for those Aetherborn who extensively essence drain to keep themselves alive... does it get to the point where they need to kill once every few minutes, or even seconds to survive? And how many victims does it take to even get to that point?
That is a FANTASTICALLY interesting thought, nice catch.
I think Allied colors is the next logical step, but beyond that I think I'd like to see them take another crack at Planeswalker Commanders. There are a ton of lore-significant characters to use, and lots of potential, in my mind.
We've now gotten wedge, shard, monocolor, enemy, and now four-color commanders. So what's next?
The easiest, and most obvious, route is allied colors. But beyond that, the only thing they have left would be colorless and five-color, neither of which seem likely.
If they go back to Planeswalkers as Commanders again, that opens up a lot more possibilities, as Allied, Enemy, Wedge, Shard, and four-color planeswalker commanders are available. If I'm not mistaken, though, planeswalker commanders weren't all that popular.
Could we see a return to wedges or shards, this time with Partner legends? Hybrid cost commanders?
I actually really like this guy... he hits play early, isn't threatening enough on his own to draw aggro, and is a nice mana sink that ramps/draws/offers card selection. I can see him as a definite partner in a tag-team commander deck, let your other partner serve as the deck's main focus and use this guy as a reliable option if the board state gets bogged down and durdley.

What does everyone think?
