I'm giddy at the moment. The god of my favorite color pairing and my favorite race actually gets a SWEET card... and gets spoiled at midnight on my birthday. Thank you, WotC.

At the beginning of your upkeep, reveal the top card of your library and put it in your hand. ~ deals damage to himself equal to its cmc.

I'd rather see that as mono black, but MAN I like that. Powerful in the right builds but not in all, strong but not brokenly so, and flavorful as hell. Well done, really elegant.
Had some AMAZING pulls, went red and pulled Purphoros, Hundred-handed One, Nylea, and a FOIL Thoughtseize (!).
My MVPs were Akroan Crusader, Dragon Mantle, Two-Headed Cerberus, and Fanatic of Mogis. Slapping a mantle on a Cerberus usually meant game, and Fanatic is nothing short of Fantastic.
I've been playtesting a U/R deck running Goblin Electromancer, Young Pyromancer, Guttersnipe, Purphoros, and a lot of burn, and this dude might just merit a slot or two. All I really need is a couple cheap scry spells to go with Magma Spray and the new duals.
Okay, correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Theros already have a "play a card of your opponent's this turn, using any color mana" effect, but in WU? I'm kinda meh on this card regardless, but it seems strange to put very similar effects in WU and UB in the same set.
What about trying to run Purphoros in a Blue-Red build? We just got that Master of Waves that makes tokens when it enters; why not try to run a Blue-devotion heavy deck with Purphoros as a wincon from the damage. He doesn't really need to be a creature to win from his ability; actually, being a creature might hinder him, as we have a decent amount of non-destroy removal that hits creatures, but much less that hits enchantments.
Alternatively, I think that Purphoros + Assemble the Legion could be a thing. Assemble is already pretty good in control builds, and this deck would basically be RW control, using Purphoros' damage as a wincon while using Red burn and White exile to keep the opponent's board clean of good stuff. Boros Reckoner stops anything 3 power/tougness or less, and removal gets rid of the rest.
I'm desperately want at least one game where I can roll out Purphoros, Assemble the Legion, and Sphere of safety and just sit back. With removal enchantments like pacifism, arrest, chained to the rocks, and maybe detention sphere, Sphere of Safety can get huge late game.
I have a strange desire to make a boros enchantment prison deck for an fnm... chained to the rocks, pacifism, and arrest into this guy, assemble the legion, and sphere of safety... will it be any good? Not likely, but silly fun...
I'm still hoping for simple legendary duals. Yes, it's a pipe dream, and no, I don't care. Perfect time to try them. No "plains island" fetchable sub type, just a legendary nonbasic that taps for W or U. A man can dream. ...
I still think that the advent of EDH is the downfall of grandeur. WotC has explicitly stated that the design of all legends going forward will be done with EDH in mind. Players now directly associate legendary creatures with the format, and it's one of the most popular formats supported by WotC. Grandeur legends, due to the singleton nature of EDH, are just about useless in the format that otherwise showcases legends. I like the flavor of the ability, but I honestly don't see it being used again until EDH isn't so prominent, maybe not ever.
Given their stated intent to design legends with EDH in mind going forward, I highly doubt grandeur will be used anytime soon, simply because of the rules of the format. As popular as EDH is now, I don't see WotC printing legends that essentially can't be used in it.
Now, whereas grandeur seems like low possibility, I LOVE the idea of bringing back evoke for Theros. Flavorful and creative, with plenty of open design space.
I agree. They might get banned, fewer hexproof legends will come out, etc. That doesn't mean people can't complain about the pushed hexproof legendary creatures not having good answers, and if there were to be a banning it would probably come about as a result of these kinds of complaints. So good points, and we'll all carry on complaining about the rules changes.
Look, i agree that you're entitled to your opinion as much as I am and that I am by no means infallible, but complaing on a forum is wholly pointless, regardless of the opinion. WotC, as theyve always done, will base the majority of their research over banning on tournament results and not message board complaints. BBE and its ilk, all the way back to Lin Sivvi, earned the Hammer because they were omnipresent in tournament deck lists and visibly warped its respective format to revolve around it or the strategy it supported, not because people complained. If complaints we're the defining factor, GoST would already banned (and Jace, and Jitte, and Thrag, and Goyf, etc...) and the list would be a mile wide.
Actually the old rule does make sense. Go check the flavor forum. Thanks for sidestepping the interactivity complaint. Next?
Magic is bigger than M14 and Theros. Modern, legacy, and commander will all still have the legendary hexproof creatures. "Foresight" is just not a good argument. If you've got a reason for thinking WotC will do something to offset the effects of the rules change, let us know. Otherwise, we're going to keep complaining about the interactivity reduction.
How many Hexproof and legendary creatures, exactly? I count 5. Not an obscene amount, and only 3 of which see play outside of EDH. If those three become totally format warping, WotC has shown that they are not afraid of banning them. As far as foresight goes, it's painfully obvious to see how strong those few are with the new rule in effect, it would seem ludicrous for RnD to not see it as well. I expect you won't see another legend with Hexproof fora long while. Hexproof is the issue here, not them being legendary.
Yes, because complaining about reductions in interactivity and flavor problems is so illogical. Next?
No, complaining about a change made with foresight that RnD has and we lack, when our complaints will most likely have no bearing on the stance of the game going forward is.

LOVE Master of Waves in it, goes really Nicely with Molten Birth too. So much silly fun!
