He also likely re-listed the flooded strands because the guy never paid, or something.

Oh, rly? He received POSITIVE feedback for Flooded Strand and then re-listed. Sure, he does print it again or shill bid with other account. I am sure he doesn't have 2x foil playsets both signed in a same strange manner.

Not all foils are created equally and at any rate their shininess is very dependent on the angle of the light hitting it.

I do own ~10 foil onslaught fetches. Most purchased back in a day. Not a single one is shiny on the picture or text.

    warn for potential fakes.

Okay, you are right. Since there was no official expertise...
    These are potential fakes.

Recently, there was an issue with Ryan O'Koren, owner of the printing source. He sold playsets of foil cards from 7th Edition. But then was banned on both accounts.

Here are 4x Flooded Strand (Onslaught FOIL), sold on Dec 02, 2013:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/281215059965
    - 1st pic is ok, but take a look at 2nd one. It is clear the Chinese Foil one is shiny blinking on text box. But only DCI (new) fetches do blink there!
The same with 4x Polluted Delta (Onslaught FOIL), sold on Dec 02, 2013:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/281215061721
    - all 4x cards clearly shines at text-boxes. None original Deltas do.

Printing technology on old cards does NOT allow text box to shine. All 4x cards in this lot appear to be fakes. Please, be careful. If you feel those cards are not original MTG cards, there is an option to report about listing practices.

    WELL,

TODAY HE IS SELLING THOSE SAME CARDS AGAIN...

Even after positive feedback from p***r ( 197 ) on 4x Flooded Strand (FOIL) left Dec-12-13 he is just relisting the same lot. Please, pay attention to the ACTUAL picture. I wonder, how many PLAYSETS of FOIL flooded strands are written by Alexander in the exactly same manner as pictured?

The other notable thing, that now guy is selling only valuable cards. Really, why to print fakes if you can print money?

    4x Flooded Strand (FOIL): http://www.ebay.com/itm/281230192366
    4x Polluted Delta (FOIL): http://www.ebay.com/itm/281230191744
    4x Marsh Flats (FOIL): http://www.ebay.com/itm/281230190428
    4x Stoneforge Mystic (FOIL): http://www.ebay.com/itm/281230189702
Jace, the Mind Sculptor (WWK FOIL): http://www.ebay.com/itm/281230197118 - that's a classic... unfortunately, no Beta Underground Sea :D

Lands do allow a certain level of shine through the textbox, and this is even more salient when taken in a dark room. I just tested this myself. I took a foil faerie conclave and took a picture of it in a bright room, where it showed very, very minor shine. Then I took it into a dark room and it turned out exactly as the one in those pictures.

    Can you upload pictures here?

I looked through all onslaught foils listed and none are shiny.
Here how it looks in dark room:

no one ever listed onslaught foil card with shiny textbox. How is it possible?

I am collector of rares (and I mean really rare cards like old japanese foils, A|B rares, etc) and unfortunately no shop have good enough inventory. Even ABU (which is strictly better then SCG) has less cards available than you could search on ebay. Not to mention price. Sometimes you can get item triple time cheaper. SCG also prohibits shipping to different address from my payment (using US one), and I have no troubles on ebay with this. Once, SCG shipped me an empty packet by UPS. It took over 40 days to solve the issue and get a refund (thanks to Ben only). Manager there just repeated "we file a claim with UPS and still waiting". It's not a big deal, just 200$, but... on ebay I get refunds within 10 days if item not shipped in time, or there is empty envelope. So, Ebay is better choice, after all...

Maybe a bot, who cancelled the deal afterwards? So it will be listed in complete listings as "sold". Some Ebay traders use this trick.

325 looks nice now, because someone speculate on this. There are 5 sold in a day on SCG for 350 ea and all on Ebay gone (320, 350, 380, 420).

I know that someone in Europe owns ~50+ BB Seas, so that maybe another price rise. If I were you I'd keep the Sea until February to see how much it rise Smile

  • posted a message on How much do you spend on cards per week/month?
    Since January I bought:

    3 Beta Bayou - 300+/ea
    3 Beta Scrubland - 250+/ea
    2 Beta Volcanic Island - 600+/ea
    1 Beta Underground Sea - 800
    1 Beta Taiga - 400
    3 Beta Badlands 250+/ea
    2 Beta Plateaus 250+/ea
    1 Beta Tropical Island 550

+ other assorted Legacy staples (playset of Forces, 6 Wastelands, Fetches, duals, etc.) just to have extras. $7,000, give or a take a bit.

1000 per month? Sounds normal for me. Nice prices, by the way Smile

That is INSANE. To each their own, but I could never seen spending that much on cardboard UNLESS you were reselling them for profit.

Well... you can always re-sell somthing later in few years.
If I could return back in 2008 I'll take as much Tropicals and MPR Wastelands for 25 each as possible to resell some now for 100 and some in 2014 for 200 Wink

Hehe Feya, I don't know if you were joking, but I think we should all avoid that route.

The duals may or may not appreciate 50-100% by next year. The bank'll ask for its 25% no matter what .

Well, this is what I actually did myself Smile

But your words are true. No one should "play" with sum he can't handle with if something goes wrong with Magic.

On the other hand, there are two benefits: you start play legacy immediately (within a month) and taste most decks. After that you are probably able to move half of cards (which you don't use) to get cash for the whole deal. It's like a game within a game Smile

  • posted a message on Foil Dark Confidant Japanese
I have got japanese foil Deed from this guy, so I believe he really got Bobs for sale.

Everyone know Bobs grow up recently (from 50 to 100 on SCG) so all under 80 on ebay are sold out (iirc only 2x foil bobs left for sale).

I have been offered 400 for Russian foil Bob, but the actual owner of the card refused to sell it for that cheap.

And after this recent price spike and talks about Modern, I believe japanese one may be worth 400 and russian 500+
But I may be wrong Smile

with their current increases though, if you're buying duals my method is this:

figure out any duals you want and make those priority. For me it's completing my sets of blue duals, getting one more volcanic and a playset of bayous...from there i'll complete my 40 when i can. I'd suggest trying to buy 2-4 per month if financially able. 1-2 a month will take a couple years.

Sometimes it may be even reasonable to take a credit in bank Smile
Underground Seas were 100 at SCG last year and now 150 each and Wastelands were 35 and now 70 each.
It's from 50% to 100% growth per year. And bank only asks for 25%. Clear profit Smile

You may even go further and purchase 2x playset of wastelands for 35 and then sell 1x when they hit 70 => this way you get your playset for free Smile
