  • posted a message on An issue about player death and control
So I was playing EDH with some friends and one of them used a Silent-Blade Oni to cast a Sigarda, Host of Herons from another player's hand

A few turns later the player with the Oni died, what happens to Sigarda? I would think it changes control to it's owner but my friends argued that since it came into play not under it's owner's control it goes to it's owner's graveyard.

I don't think TnN should be banned because there are a couple ways to deal with them, most are in blue but unless they got Concordant Crossroads in play or they got Urabrask the Hidden + an eldrazi you have a turn to deal with the threat. In a multiplayer format I bet a few people will have answers to them. I saw the good ole Avenger + Primeval Titan move and the very next turn someone wrathed and reanimated the titan.

In a duelling format you would be insane not to run a good deal of spot removal. Black can justifiably run hand destruction, red has lando, white has plenty of wraths and spot removal, blue has counterspells. Everyone has access to tec edge and ghost guarter and more to stop Boseiju. Run some tutors, know what to expect and it is not that bad of a card, yes it is game ending but so are a lot of things. When you pay 9 mana for something it should win you the game or at least come close.

Say I have a mimic vat imprinted with a ravenous rats. Could I activate mimic vat during a draw step, after my opponent has drawn their card for turn so that they discard whatever they drew?

  • posted a message on Most awkward game you've ever played?
At my college we have 3 main groups of magic players, the really good jerks, the bad people in the corner and the people from the art building. I started playing around conflux and after a month I really wanted to get better at deck construction but I played with the people in the corner. So one day I just hopped over to the table with the really good jerks and started to ask questions and read articles about the game. I start to improve and the first deck I was proud of, a squillspike combo, and then I return to my old group to test my skills. I decimate them with ease and notice they never understood the rules, it was awkward to destroy the guy that taught me how to play without a lot of effort.

A few of friends and I had a similar discussion anout this, I vote for Grand Arbiter Augustin IV as Sloth,Kaalia of the Vast for wrath, Nicole Bolas for Greed.

In Grand Arbiter you should run stasis locks and try to mill everyone out by skipping your turns with Chronotog.

Do you run Sun Titan? If so then necrotic sliver is better.

    Quote from luminum can
I don't know if I'd make a one-for-one swap between them. Aegis Angel is a lot cheaper, so you can reasonably expect to hardcast it as well. A more even comparison would be between Avacyn and Deathless Angel as some have already mentioned. Which costs the same, but requires you to leave mana up to protect your stuff.

I'd cut deathless first, the at least with aegis and avacyn you get the effect immediately.

  • posted a message on Home rules/ quirks about your edh playgroup?
The only house rules we have is that if you scoop you must do it at sorcery timing. If you must leave for a class or something we will just consider you there till your next turn. Also if you are about to die and decide to throw your hand in an attempt to ruin someone, we honor this.

  • posted a message on Your top 5 things magic players need to STOP doing
    1. People insulting other people's trade binders.

Example: In my town there is this one snobby guy that is trying really hard to be a spike and when I asked to trade with him he looked over my binder and I did his. He insulted me by saying "You got a lot of crap in here, just a bunch of EDH crap". I am sorry my shocks and fetches are not in my binder, they are in my decks and yes I have a lot of EDH cards because it is the format I play. I didn't say that he had a lot of overpriced standard stuff. I just told him what I tell everyone with stuff I don't want/can't trade for "I found nothing I particularly wanted".

    2. Another is people telling new players or players that are losing that they are bad at magic. I was playing standard a few months ago and was losing to a deck pretty poorly and this guy that I haven't seen in years just comes up and says "You are still horrible at this game." Even though both games where close and I ended up placing 5th in the tournament. I proceeded to play EDH with him and crush him.

    3. New players not taking suggestions. Every time I see a new player get beaten horrible I go out of my way to make a few suggestions, like running some more removal or swapping X for Y. I am polite to them and I complement them on clever ideas while also noting that it could work better with some tweaks. The ones that have listened to me are usually very thankful and the others just complain about losing.

    4. Complaining about losing. Simply put it happens, sometimes your deck has a bad match up or you made a play mistake. Complaining doesn't help, analyze what was good and bad about the game and try to improve.

    5. People using their phones during a game. It is disrespectful to your opponent and wastes time. Unless it is an emergency, it can wait. This also extends to talking to people outside the game excessively and/or trading while playing.
