Deranged Hermit and Lifeline are both strong in Saffi. Hermit will get you a ton of tokens fast with Saffi's ability, which allows you to pretty much draw your entire deck with Gaea's Cradle and Skullclamp. Lifeline is just really good in a deck with sac outlets and ETB abilities.

Yes. I was the dude who was pissed off at his own Phyrexian Crusaders.

Oh yeah, I remember you. We had some good matches. I had no idea what Crusader did and kept doing illegal things to it (that sounds kinda weird...).

I find it slightly amusing that I'm pretty sure I played both of you today.

Haha that is hilarious. Was it on Cockatrice?

thanks for all the replies everyone. This deck has actually been performing very well, despite the lack of land acceleration. I will definitely try out some of the ideas that you guys have suggested, though. The only thing is that the GSZ/creature plan does not go well with the recurring O.Stones.

@tomathan88: Don't forget to play Oblivion Stone. It is the best lock card in the deck. Blowing up the board every turn (or every other turn until you get enough lands) is just too good to pass up on. It really has been the best card in the deck. But I do like some other cards you are playing that I forgot all about, such as Summer Bloom and Rites of Flourishing. I also like some of the lands you are playing. Time to test some more!

@Koopa: Me too Smile . And you're absolutely correct in saying that this Lands deck is different in that it isn't really a manadenial deck, due to the lack of good available cards. This version of Lands is a creature denial plan. This is why it is good against aggro, but sucks against combo.

So I was playing around with a control Loam deck, and found out that recurring Oblivion Stones and Mindslavers are awesome. It dominates aggro, but haven't found the best answers to Scapeshift or other "combos". Here is the list:

The deck is really fun and challenging to pilot. The idea is to use Gifts to get any amount of Explosives, Slavers, O.Stones, Punishing Fires, Academy Ruins, Tectonic Edges/GhostQuarter, and Life from the Loams. From there, just keep recurring artifacts and lands. You can keep them off of four lands with Tec. Edges, and keep them off of other permanents with O. Stones. Finish of the opponent with infinite turns (via Mindslaver) and beatdown with mandlands and burn with Fires.

Sideboard is a mess right now, as I have no idea what to play. I was thinking something like this:
    3 Krosan Grip
    4 Chalice of the Void
    1 Wrath of God
    3 Pithing Needle
    4 No idea

I need to find something to deal with gravehate, as that tears the deck apart, but I'm not sure what gravehate will be the most popular in modern. Right now, the Needles do the job.

I don't have any experience with the legacy version, so any advice at all would help. Any way to make it faster? And obvious lands I'm leaving out? Thanks in advance.

Against Merfolk, Affinity, Dredge, Gobbos, etc., make sure you're running Dueling Grounds in the board. With Knights and our creatures with evasion and equipment, it's an auto-win.

Honestly, what is the thought process behind people trying to splash other colors in this deck? Where is your logic? The deck had an extremely strong showing at States, so, you figure the best thing to do is..add another color(less consistent) and run less Elves(less consistent)? How is that supposed to improve the deck in even the most remote sense?

Relevant discussion is like..whether or not the deck should run Vengevine(I don't think it gains much by running this card, and certainly other cards seem better in that slot), whether or not it should run Fauna Shaman(I find this to be a great addition), is 3 or 4 the correct # of Monument..etc.

If you're going to suggest something radically different, at least have some kind of backup/data as to why this is a good idea first.

Chill, bro. I just said i'm new to standard and wanted to offer a new idea. Even with the splash, i still play more elves than a lot of the mono-green lists because i dropped monuments, genesis waves and planeswalkers. So splashing, at least in my case, doesn't even dilute the deck at all.

And thanks Gix for pointing out to me about how bad arbor elf is in my list with all the nonbasics. Im used to legacy where the dual lands count as forests Smile
I'm going to try out mono-green for now, because i realized (after just a bit of testing) that stoneforge is too slow and doesn't merit a splash by himself. I do like the idea of having Arbiter and celestial purge in the SB though...

Hey everyone, I'm new to standard (i play legacy) but i really like the idea of elves being a new contender in the format. I was wondering why there weren't that many elf decks that splash another color. Is tectonic edge so popular in standard (like wasteland in legacy) that people fear splashing colors, or does green just offer enough for elves? Here is my first attempt at a serious standard deck. Any comments would be appreciated.

I know that the Stoneforge package doesn't exactly fit elves' gameplan, but i think that it definitely helps the lategame and provides the deck with some much needed card advantage

Just build the standard gobbo list. It's a really consistent deck. A tight goblin deck will destroy underdeveloped metas and random jank decks. If they have no answer to T1 Lackey, you basically win

Thanks for the explanations, that makes sense.

What does everyone think about sideboarding against U/G Madness Survival. I have so many cards to side against them, but i dont want to over-sideboard. For reference, here is my SB:

Honestly all of those could be sided in, but im not sure which ones would be the best. GY hate, or kgrips? Perish or pyrokenisis (im thinking perish)? How much of each?

aaronc123, how have the singletons in the deck been working for you, especially the warren instigator and the Earwig squad? I havent tested either of those cards very much yet. The only singleton i have in the deck is a stingscourger. I also tried sharpshooter and Wort, both which were good, but not against all decks. I cut the Wort completely and moved the Sharpshooter to SB.

@Magico: Not to sound condescending or offensive in any way...but what do you plan on doing when you run into combo? I run Thorn of Amethyst AND Mindbreak Trap to negate this, but I don't see any slots (other than maybe REBs) dedicated towards this MU...?

The combo in my meta is Reanimator and Show and Tell. Because theres not ANT or Belcher that i have to worry about, Thorns and Mindbreak traps arent necessary.

The REB's worked great tonight. Im really glad that i decided to add them in.

Whats your brg sideboard look like?

This is the SB im running right now:

I actually havent tried this SB out much yet. Im going to a ~20 person tourney tomorrow night and will try it out there.

Also, im not copying Saito's Perish/Nature's Ruin split. I just dont have 3 Perishes and my friend had Nature's Ruin lying around Smile

I am totally new to legacy and I want to run Goblins but I'm unsure of what variant to run...
I've seen several on here such as:

    U/R
    G/R
    B/R

    and Mono-Red.

What makes each of these decks more appealing than the other?

I'm not entirely sure but from what I've seen...

    U/R - Standstill
    G/R - Krosan Grip
    B/R - Warren Wierding
    Mono-Red - Blood Moon

I find the Blood Moons really appealing

Perish is one of the best SB cards in the metagame right now. Krosan Grip is awesome because then you dont auto-scoop to Moat, Engineered Plague, Humility, etc. This is why I run r/b/g. This way i can have access to answers for almost everything. But, mono-red, rb, rg, and rbg have all had success. I would suggest staying away from ru, but i havent tried it at all

I run Pithing Needle in sb. Not only does it stop planeswalkers, it also shuts down survivals and jittes along with tons of other cards. Things like planeswalkers and jittes can easily destroy us, and pithing needle is a one-drop that stops them all. I am honestly debating running 2 main because i dont like only having 8 one-drops. i dont think its worth it though and my list is very tight right now.

Goblins were everywhere i looked at GP. It, along with zoo and various countertop decks, were the decks that i saw the most of. From what i heard, 2 of the 3 decks that were undefeated after day one were gobbo decks. I dont know if this is true, though
