  • posted a message on [ZEN] Booster/Intro Pack packaging image
    Here's what I see:

    - The woman on the intro pack box is most likely a soldier, possibly a lord.
    - The dude holding the staff (yes staff, not a gun. If you look, his left arm is crossing in front of him and the part of the staff that you can't see is protruding behind him being held in his right hand) is most likely some sort of fire mage, or something to the likes of Blinding Mage.
    - I see the new Chandra artwork on one of the boosters which absolutely confirms her as the returning planeswalker.
    - I see at least four different Intro packs, although there are most likely at least five. I see one blue, one white, and one green. The front card on the green one looks kind of like a vampire, which leads me to believe that my guess on Elvish Vampires will be fulfilled. Here comes Llanowar Sengir/Sengir Elves/Pwnage.

That's all I've got for now. Keep the speculation coming XD

Hmm, I agree that Fear was too narrow and got the wrong keyword (having fear makes a creature sound like it's afraid), but I don't think it was a good idea to have Intimidate worded the way it seems to be.
I think it's a much more elegant solution to simply spell out on the card itself what kind of creatures can block it ("Intimidate - Artifact and/or black (This creature can't be blocked except by artifact creatures and/or black creatures.)"). That way you don't get into weird situations where color-changing effects change how the ability works, you don't need to keep fear around for corner cases such as Dust Elemental, and it works for the white and red 'pseudo-fears', not to mention Dread Warlock.

Don't care about Substance, but Imprint should have become a keyword action instead.

Two things. That would defeat the purpose of getting rid of the keyword fear. Second, if the creature changes colors, it's supposed to be blockable by creatures of whatever color it changed to. Chances are, creatures that have an innate ability to change their color probably won't have intimidated.

They don't need to add the reminder text. The effect is pretty self-explanatory, and they've omitted reminder text on planeswalkers already, such as the "this effect doesn't end at end of turn" on Bolas's second ability.

Reminder text really is optional in most cases.

Particularly on cards like Planeswalkers, considering those cards are Mythic Rare, and reminder text appears most often on common and uncommon cards.

    Quote from netn9
Mana acts diffrent? Didn't we have Aaron Forsythe tweet:

"I'm working on a mono-red FFL deck that gains a ton of life. heh."

So the red acts like white or green Smile

So maybe blue will get damage like red? One can dream?

FFL plays cards that are being designed for a year later. That means that it's for the large set of Fall 2010, after M11. Sorry, but you won't be seeing that in Zendikar.

I sure hope they won't screw over the whole colour pie again, like in PC.

If you meant Planar Chaos, then you should toss your magic cards to your nearest magic playing friend. Planar Chaos was amazing, giving abilities to other colors in ways that didn't feel out of the normal color pie. Black got Damnation, which feels very black, or even very red, although red is known more for mass damage, and black is more mass instant destruction. In some ways, it feels MORE black than white, although it feels white in the sense that it destroys all creatures, which is "fair".

Ya mana doing extra effects sounds really fun as a mechanic. Ive always enjoyed the flavor of Hall of the Bandit Lord and Boseiju.

In reference to the "Mount Zendikar", i like it altho i would change the "if you spend this mana to cast a non red creature spell" to "cast a red creature spell". its not multicolor themed and its more restictive

That change would make his card pointless. Just because it's not multicolored doesn't mean people won't be playing decks that are more than one color. Also, that mana doesn't only have to be used for non-red creatures, but if used on a non-red creature, it would give that creature a very red ability, which was the point of his card.

Then again, after "The Battlefield", we shouldve expected some more lame ideas.

The only reason they changed the "in play zone" to the "battlefield zone" was to clarify between "playing a card" which is now "casting a spell" and "putting a card into play" which is now "putting a card onto the battlefield" for those that were confused by it. And I've heard plenty of "well just let them make the mistakes til they learn" thing, and that's just something that a prick would say. I've known a few people that had some trouble with activated abilities that said "comes into play" and they thought it activated when they played the card. Then some people thought countering the spell prevented "play" abilities. It's the same reason they changed "at end of turn" to "the beginning of the end step".

I opened a couple packs from Time Spiral block (can't remember which set) and they had a couple cards that had most of one card but off centered, cutting a bit off the top, and then part of the next card pushing into it.

Sylesnya will most likely have Vhitu-Ghazi, Orzhov will have Orzhova...it really wouldn't surprise me if each got their own plane card.

Come on people, it's really not that bad of an idea. Was there really this much complaining when Seeker and some of the TSP "intimidate" creatures came out? There was even a goblin that was able to give another creature "red fear", as I called it back then. And it's not like it's going to be overdone. After all, they don't overdo "lure", and they don't overdo other evergreen mechanics like haste and trample, not to mention lifelink, which I'm fairly certain has gotten the evergreen status. And like all of those keywords, Intimidate will have it's tier system, most likely having black as the primary, red as the secondary, and possibly white as the tertiary.

Here is a reasonable idea. if anyone seen the Fleshwrither from future sight, you can see a glowing structure in the hand of the horror. While the structure is not point for point as the one in Zendikar it doesn't mean they are not related. If anyone remembers the story behind the neexus from mirrodin where they were living things. Many all those floating and standing "pyramids" are batteries or mana. Plus Fleshwrither would fit the without clause. playing without the card.

Also if you look at the lumithread field we see three figures that are changing they are in a circle, maybe they are the keepers or protects. They also fit the clause.

And also i do think that Sorin is going in the next set. Last night i saw a product sheet order that stores get so they know what is coming out next. Guess who was on the cover a picture of sorin with the ad to preorder zendikar. And there is no reason for them to put this picture to draw attention.

Also i believe that the plainwalker will be monocolor. Because we dont have two black walker only, we dont have another red plainwalker and dont have another green one.
So maybe sorin is black , chandra is red with new abilities, and nessa is mono green.

I do hope the Transfigure ability is reprinted soon. Considering you could only play the ability as a sorcery on the Future Sight card, they were probably already aware of how powerful damage on the stack could be with it, and now that damage can no longer use the stack, they could change it so that you can use it as an instant, which would give us some very interesting combat tricks. It's also a great blue/black feel, if you think of zombies, necromancers, phantoms, illusions and the like.

Also doesn't have to be less powerful. Just less cruel.

Could be anything. Mindslaver effect would be nice though. =P

You got that backwards. It has to be less powerful, but could be even crueler under certain circumstances.

As was stated in the article, while it felt very Nicol Bolas, it just wasn't game-ending enough. And as we all know, Nicol Bolas is about as cruel as they come.

    Quote from Ophan
Well, if Sorin is indeed a vampire, and from the looks of things he is. We also have Nissa and she's of elvish background... So there's going to be Elves and Vampires. Perhaps not in bulk, but definitely there. Other than that we don't have too much else to go on.

It's been said that the M10 lords will all be supported in Zendikar. That doesn't mean there will be heavy amounts of all of them, but enough of them for plenty of synergy. I would like to stress one thing:

Having tribes in a block does NOT make the block tribal.

In the tweet talk article that Maro did, he himself answered a question about the Kamigawa block. Someone asked about the fact that people were saying that the Kamigawa bock wasn't tribal (which it wasn't). Maro's response was that, while there was a lot of synergy within each of the tribes (i.e. snakes making and helping and activating from other snakes, same with the Akki goblins and such), that wasn't the superimposed theme of the block.

I somehow doubt they would have Chandra on a Zendikar deck box if she wasn't in Zendikar.

She wasn't on a deck box (from what I've seen), she was on sleeves.

And to reiterate my last post, the image was on a rules insert card. That doesn't mean the art wasn't commissioned for a new 'walker card, because as we all know, they've used card art for book covers before.

Chandra is likely in Zendikar, based from the Novel hint. and only from it. The Art that Steve Argyle did. was probably commissioned for the Promo Art that is (rumored) to be Hardcover of the Purifying Fire. Being that it is a Rumor and not yet confirmed, it's is still entirely plausible.

I just opened a pack of M10 cards today showing an image of the Purifying Fire novel, with the spoiled artwork as the cover.

Actually, maro said that if someone told you that _______ is coming back without _______, you wouldn't believe them. When you hear or see something unbelievable, you're surprised. So yes, we're expecting something surprising. And besides, every example of ________ without ________ I've refuted is completely and totally expected at some point, due to being talked about or already printed.

    He said, and I quote
"I don't think anyone would have expected CENSORED (really, if someone told you we'd have [CENSORED] without [CENSORED] , would you have believed them?)."

That doesn't make it a surprise. It makes it unexpected, and something you'd doubt without hard evidence, but not necessarily surprising.

Likewise you could say to someone that never read the sixth Harry Potter book or saw the movie that
    Dumbledore dies
. It's unexpected. It's not something that you'd believe without checking it. But with some of the more recent events, and the events leading up to that, it's not all that surprising. Shocking, mortifying, sure, but not surprising (and before you argue that shocking and surprising are the same thing, surprising is something that you had no idea was going to happen, whereas shocking is something you see coming, but can't believe it when it arrives).
