I really, really, really, really want a good Black -x/-x spell. But I doubt it will be cheap. With the inclusion of Sudden Spoiling, anything too aggressively costed will make for a really good MBC deck.
Although, they may be getting sick of weenie decks and want them to slow down, so a sweeper might come back. I guess it depends on what they want the Meta to be.
I don't read the books, so I don't know how much info gets pulled from them and put into cards. But if I were making Magic cards based around that chapter, I'd likely make a R/x spell that damages attacking creatures, and players.
Then some sort of land that gives two mana at once, but only untaps ever other turn, and comes into play tapped (powerful mana, but unstable). But knowing that its instability is tied to Teferi, it likely has something like phasing or the like (wasn't there a rumored mechanic like that?)
Of course we'll never get hymn back, but, I am excited to see its little brother on the purple list (Hi stupor, daddy missed you, lets go get ice cream!).
I was thinking that hand destruction has a chance now with stupor back on the list.
Rise/Fall
Stupor
Hypnotic Specter
Small Pox
all create in my opinion a possible hand destruction enviroment. I dont know how lethal yet until I test it though.
but, with early game land destruction we force our opponents to play out their lands fast as possible setting them back (and mana producing creatures with the pox). follow it up with a hippie hacking away or a well placed hit from fall it can be game before its even begun.
Toss in arena's or bob( dangerous with rise/fall though) and you're looking at getting an early game card advantage and a late game sustainabile one and it should be viable
at least I hope, we'll see. what do you think?
I would go with Arena's, The Rack, and soul Spike (once your opp starts playing out cards to avoid your discard, you can pitch them to kill critters or weaken your opp. )
I too, like dangerlinto, am extatic to see Meddling Mage being reprinted on MTGO. Finally, it'll drop a bit in price... which is sad that a 1:121 chance at a card will actually bring a lot more into the system. But I'll take it.
As for the buyback zombify, it's not bad, and I'm sure that someone will break it. At least it's not sacrifice three non-token creatures... that would have really been aweful!
I see that there are 12 spots for adding timeshifted cards... but if there are 1 in each booster, and 3 in a tourney pack, why there so many slots? Is it possible to get more than that?
Edit: Ah, I guess that makes sense... too bad I was hoping to be able to get 12 somehow.
I like it a lot. This brings up the non targeted creature sac effects in black to 3 for STD alone! (Cruel Edict, Hit/Run and Small Pox). Now we just need a sweeper (mutilate please be a purple!!!) and we're set for MBC!
I pulled black out of the list on accident and that multicolored guy was in the list twice from the OP. Pulled that out and added hydro's cards... should be up to date from the info in this thread.
Some things I'm sure will be usefull right away, psi blast in counter burn for example. Some stuff probably will be usefull with the other sets of the block. Other things may be usefull with the next large set and coreset. Others are likely just for fun.
There's the R/G enchantment damage dealer for the gruul, and some decent cards for Rakdos in there too.

I guess that kind of shows my 'newness' (I guess, comparatively, Onslaught is kind of new).
But yes, that's sort of what I think some of the lands will be like. Probably not with Phasing, but something similar.

Just my .02

As an MBC lover, I aint afraid of no Akroma!
