So Simple enough question, Given the template of ephara, mogis, ect. I'm curious, Would something like rakdos shred freak cound as 2 devotion or 4 for Mogis? Logic tells me 4, 2 for black, and 2 for red. But given how powerful that would be I feel like it can't possibly be that way. If so Burning tree emissary just got a whole lot better. (and it was already good.)
So its been a while since I've posted. After thinking things over I decided to go Spellslinger style for various reasons. Like my area already having a Riku-Creature and Riku-Token deck. Not to mention last deck list I posted, Sonik pointed out that I had Spellslinger elements, and I rather liked those effects.
As for the deck itself, I know its rather lacking. Mana curve could be a bit better, and I could use more instances/sorceries, among other things. If I double check my cards I may be able to clear that up slightly.
Feel free to comment on how I can spruce this up, or not. Bear in mind this deck list is out of cards I actually currently own, and that my card pool is not amazing. I've got a small list of possible cards to buy to improve this, but I'm still digging through card lists and need to look things over to figure out what would be best, and also what combo won't make me broke as well
Sorry such a winded post. It would be of help at least if anyone can name off some cards like Hypersonic Dragon that give sorcery cards flash/instant speed.
The primer section at the beginning has a pretty extensive list. Personally when I build a new EDH deck I go on Magiccards.info and use their advanced search function to narrow down what I'm looking for then I go through all the cards.
I had the t1 infinite with that deck once. It was glorious. Though rather than make everyone shuffle all over again I showed it to everyone said "game t2?" and basically just mulligan-ed it away.
All I'm seeing here is the OP ranting about ramp. EDH is a multi-player format if you want to keep up and win you have to play like the old naval strategy from the Renaissance. If you're the biggest guy in town you better be able to take on the next 3 below you at the same time. So you ramp and draw card so that you can do as many game actions and have answers for 3 other players. Thats why Green (ramp) and Blue (card draw) are the 2 best colors in EDH. They each have characteristics that they take to an extreme the other colors can't keep up with.
if you hate ramp, hate on it. Play tunnel ignus, price of progress, manabarbs, and the like. If it takes a deck like that existing in your playgroup for them to adapt do it. I personally change my own edh decks almost monthly to keep my group from stagnating on their strategies. I build a deck that forces them to adapt then another that makes them see a new strategy they hadn't thought of. I'm trying to get them all to focus on being able to deal with enchantments after spending months teaching them artifacts are broken.
Yeah, I can't see Savage Summoning being any better than Flash in any way.
Hey Sonik, what do you think about Conjurer's Closet? It feels like a dead card fairly often, especially since I have Kiki and Deadeye in the deck.
Closet is insane. yes playing kiki and dead eye too is a bit much. But both kiki and dead eye are creatures. post wrath they don't stick around.
Personally I'm running closet, kiki, twin, and dead-eye. Closet's biggest advantage is that especially with riku you can get additional token copies of creatures only paying for riku's ability.
I had a game last week where closet into acidic slime, into riku totally dominated the game until they got removal for slime and I played primordial. at which point the game was almost over. flicker abilities are amazing in riku and closet is one of the harder ones to answer.
this, I think affinity as much as wizards seems to hate the bad press it makes needs to keep its name. Its a legacy of domination in magic. 3 decks have made their mark on magic in the way affinity has.
Dredge, storm, affinity. Decks which are bogey men. their always there, sometimes they rule the world other times they fall by the wayside. Then when you least expect it they come out of no where and get you.
Affinity is more than a mechanic, its a title. Tempered steel wasn't affinity. There is a difference. but affinity is affinity.
So when wizards released modern masters they said they were going to be reprinting expensive cards from modern. This has lead some people to see thoughtsieze's exclusion as a sign it will be in M14.
This in mind I remembered our old best mana dork. Noble hierarch.
It seems unlikely for exalted to appear in a core set twice. Which solidified my suspicion. Wizards has put hints as to upcoming mechanics in the core set before a new block comes out. Such as steel overseer, trisk, platinum angel before scars of mirrodin ect.
So with m13 having many exalted cards throwing back to alara. And with exalted being an ability for knight, soldiers, and heros in general it only seems right that with noble hierarch not being in modern masters that it will be reprinted soon. thus I'm of a firm belief it will be in theros.
If it isn't then at the very least it will probably be in heros vs monsters.
has anyone tried out boros reckoner in this deck yet? It seems like with Melira pod, B/G/x junk and especially the mirror match like a good way to trump creature decks. Any player relying on bolt or other burn for removal is gonna have a bad time as well.
my only concern is that it's more responsive and less reactive. with all our burn, we seem to be wanting to get things out of geists way. with harm's way, we are just holding it all game until the opponent figure's out how to deal it 2 damage.
Yeah it would probably be better in a delver centric strategy than a geist one protecting the other guys from burn spells, and racing them by fogging a guy and killing another ect.
I played the card in standard quite a bit and it was the perfect reply to lightning bolt. You essentially counter their bolt and either burn them or kill their creature. Its also a great combat trick. I always think of it like a mini-lightning helix.
I don't understand all the praise about Blood Scrivener. By the time he could draw us 1 extra card, he would have been much more useful being any number of things.
I also don't think enough people here are utilizing dredge as much as they should be.
EDIT: nvm please close thread already posted.
also why no phyrexian altar / ashnods altar?
grave pact is awesome so why no butcher of malakir?

I think viscera dragger would be better overall for your list than shambling remains.
I'm also a firm believer in running inquisition of kozilek, or thoughtseize in the main.
student of warfare was good because it was a 3/3 first strike on t2. not because it became a 4/4 double strike. that was just icing on the cake.
