Furor:The Bible - Actually reading it might help you make better arguments against it, next time.
Ihave one, and its on the trinitarian view of christianity, if you read the bible closely, youll see that nowhere in it does Isa(jesus) called himself son of god, but son of man.
"Paradise is certainly not exaggerated... in fact, no description could come close to how it is supposed to be."
With this i agree whole heartedly, But i still dont see the use of the "illustrations" of hell in the Bible. I would think that a VERY clear picture would be wanted of the horrors of hell and the grave. So why would an existance be given to those who are in pleasure and not the ones in punishment? Oblivion is a mercy compared to some views of hell.
Uhhh... i cant determine whether that was a response to my question, so whoever responded just im me and we can have a more direct convorsation.
And, yes when we are being threatend we should fight.
infinity in a word: unendingness, and dont tell me thats not a word. i already know that. And if the universe were folding in on itself, wouldnt we notice weird effects in physics once the folding part of "fabric" came close to the, shall we say, bottom? or the other folding part? the crease? i'm at a loss of words
Edit: i just noticed godofthegrove's comment, since when are we all christian here, or just talking about christianity? the title of the thread is " Life=Game? Religion=Rules?"
well, i dont know about Judaisam but in Islam hell, or An-Nar is described as a place of eternal punishment, with fire that is 70 times as hot as the hottest fire, and people will ask the gatekeeper (the angel Malik) "O, Malik! Ask your lord to make an end to us!" and he will say"Surely, you shall abide forever." I beleive that the Jewish view of hell is similiar? And as for Christianity, the bible has been revised and and edited for the good part of 2000 years, has it not?
Edit: and if hell is supposedly overexaggerated, wouldnt Paradise be as well?
1) to one of your previous points, this one actually(forgive me for not actually qouting): I have two choices; believe in god, or not believe in god. So lets say I believe in god. Is his power so awesome that I must do as he says? Hell no! I think hes a jerk! What kind of "righteous" force sends you to burn forever just because you didnt follow his rules.
ok, if god is indeed God(not in the sense of Him being Jesus) then why would He be bound by our preconcepts of "righteous" and "evil"? These do not include Him. We have nothing to hold against Him, even whats been promised in the holy books. The fact is, We were created by Him to worship Him. That is our sole purpose. If we obey, we are rewarded, and if not then we are punished. Though this does not mean that redemption cannot be easily accomplished. Dont confuse "stern" with with "evil", he is the All Forgiving.
can the theory of evolution and monotheistic(not just christian mind you) ideas co-exist in your opinion? if not why? The only thing in my beleif system that denotes any point of evolution is that we beleive the human did not evolve, which seems completely plausible to me as we've had less time to evolve true sentience than most things on this planet, yet we have.
political beleif: Shar'iah; a kind of meld of Democracy and religious law, basically an Islamic Theocracy.
Philosophy: Necessarian mostly
