It's not Jaya... who cares, no one will be happy. 1/10 simply because it's not Jaya.

Most Iconic Red Planeswalker... How could they skip out on that? This kinda kills some of the hype for the set for me, mainly because I was excited for the possibility of Jaya being in since Teferi was revealed.

On Topic: If you could actually get to the ultimate, then it will get pretty nuts.

I think most of the Lorwyn 5 are safe due to unresolved plot threads that could be explored later on, with the exception of Ajani, unless i am missing something (maybe jace, if he wasnt the "new urza")

So it is possible that Ajani will be the second neowalker to die, unfortuantly.

Also: I thought the Theros Leonin mostly didnt worship the gods because none of the gods cares about the Leonin? Given that Ajani would care for them, they probably would worship him.

Witch's Eye is inspired by the 3 blind witches from the epic poem The Odyssey, aka the movies Clash of the Titans. I figured a lot of stuff will come from that story. I expect some sort of Sirens card that gains control of creatures, or just leads them to their death in some manner. A magical sword and shield equipment forged by the Gods. Also, if there isn't a card that's inspired by the mechanical owl Bubo from the original 'Clash', there should have been.

The Odyssey was actually about Odysseus returning home from the Trojan War and had nothing to do with the Clash of the Titans. Clash of the Titans, however, is based on the story that the three you mentioned came from. The Graeae were three goddesses who took the form of old women who shared a single eye and tooth between them. Perseus stole their eye to force them to tell him, depending on the version either, how to kill Medusa or how to find her.

You forgot Konda stole that Kami-thing that granted divinity counters? he should have eaten a few of those counters before facing the kamis in card form.

    Quote from JasonFin
The issue is flavor. Konda was indestructible due to stealing That Which Was Taken from the spirit world. What makes some random soldier indestructible?

Well apparently he just carries around a bag full of Boros Charms. Slant

Fridge Logic: Boros Charms are cast using his beard hair as a reagent.

in serious news: woah this card is pretty awesome. 4 mana is the ideal top of the curve for fast creature decks, so he curves pretty nicely for them. also, didn't a few people predict this would be a 2/2? kudos to them.

"Only once each turn" on your card is basically a {T}, where Enchantments usually don't tap anymore.

I'm pretty sure I've read the can only be activate once a turn on enchantments before, without that clause, it would be even more broken lol

Besides, it does actually get around the "Enchantments don't tap" clause since it isn't tapping. Sure the design intent is to function the same, but that adds to the style.

And this is the first week where we won't hear "omg look how close it was, why won't wizards to a runoff like they did for enchantment vs land" in the topic. ... now to actually think of a unique global enchantment in black. it's odd that i had a pretty decent aura ready to go (posted in last week's thread) but hadn't put much thought in a global enchant. derp.

Did anyone else notice that the guilds chosen all share a color with another guild that was chosen? This meams that each color is used twice among the intro packs.

In other news: interesting that the gruul champion, considered the strongest thus far out of the guild champions, is in an intro pack. Meaning the price should stabalize fairly quickly.

See, i dont get the whole "Y she has 4/4 body, she is crippled." cry i see repeated oft throughout this thread. Especially when Innistrad has a house cat at 1/2, mainly to take advantage of the "a housecat can defeat a level 1 commoner" d&d joke, or a 12 ounce bird that is a 2/2, putting it on par with a grizzly bear. Give it a rest.

As for the ability... As mentioned before, this kind of card is one that control decks would love, as well as in reanimator decks that have the ability to sneak her out quicker. Odds are someone'll find a nice spot for her, so i can see her seeing play in some constructed format. Her abilities will at least ensure people will try her, so someone may wind up finding out she works in Deck WinXYZ or sommat. I say give it some time.

  • posted a message on [New Info] You Make the Card 4 Week 5: Aura or Not? (Black Wins!)
I voted red due to it being the color i love the most, but oh well. It's kind of hard to actually decide which one would lead to more design space, but the fact that auras tend to be 2 - for - 1 puts people off

Buuut this is black, a color known for interacting with the graveyard. If any color is going to make something from an enchantment going to the 'yard, it is this color. Heck, here's an idea:

    Gravechill Rune 1BB
    Enchanment - Aura
    Enchant Creature
Whenever Enchanted Creature attacks, put a -1/-1 counter on target creature.
Whenever Gravechill Rune goes to the graveyard, return target creature in your graveyard with a converted mana cost of 4 or less to play.

The flavor being that it's a rune that necromancers apply to zombies under their control to bring them back to life, as well as increase their combat potential. Unless i am mistaken, this does mean you could reanimate the creature if was on due to stacking and death triggers and such. So dont discount auras as much, as there is some opportunity to make one that doesnt result in a 2 - for - 1 scenario.

I'm not even sure why they are having us vote again in the first place.
It was a clear enough difference. Unless they have no idea what to ask us next...

MaRo said in tumblr that this is using some time that would have been allotted for other things. Besides, i dont think a statistical tie that is only 30 votes diffen is a clear enough difference.

    Quote from Dire Wombat
If you're considering voting for land, you should read the following:

Mark Rosewater had this to say on his tumblr about the requirements that will probably be placed on any land designs should land win the card type poll:

"All lands must produce mana (or have the ability to get access to mana/lands. Lands cannot be strictly better than basic lands which means if it produces colored mana (including producing more than one color of mana), it will have to have some kind of drawback.

I also doubt the public is going to have the ability to make legendary land as we do them very infrequently and only for very specific story purposes. I also believe land tokens are not going to be on the table for the same reason we haven’t done them yet - they’re very confusing and hard to track whether or not they’re tapped."

I'm sure some of that isn't 100% set in stone, but for purposes of voting, we need to assume that all of that is true. If you want a land that violates any of those guidelines, you probably won't get it, and should re-think voting for land.

Personally, I'm still a bit torn. The design space is a LOT smaller for lands, which is a significant problem, but I do like the idea of making something colorless that could go in more decks.

Reposting this. MaRo is pointing out that if we go land then we probably will have to abide by the following restrictions:
    1. The land must either produce mana or fetch for lands.
    2. If the land produces color mana, then it must have a drawback for doing so. (I.e: sacrifice a creature: add B to your mana pool.)

If you still want to vote land, fine, there are some interesting ideas that could be had. Just keep in mind those restrictions will probably be made for making lands.

Still voted enchantment. Yes there is the whole "dies to removal" argument that affects creatures and artifacts. That just means that the ability to get a stronger card would be a bit higher imo.

i voted for a creature though... Fblthp for life!

Well, as far as this site is concerned, Lands are winning. But keep in mind that the mothersite gets far more visitors than we do, so it could very well be another creature.

    Quote from ultratog1028
Hey Op, people said the same about Innistrad, and Avacyn Restored, and Return to Ravnica. Every new set gets this call when people see that the set adds little to existing standard decks not realizing that sets are meant to change standard, not add to existing strategies.

Seriously, just once I'd like a set to release without "this is just commander crap" being mentioned. Besides, outside of lands and legends, only like 15 cards are going to be seen in commander, if that, and most will become forgotten in a year.

I think they mostly make the comparison due to Commander being a casual game type supported by WotC. Because of that, it does seem like there are a lot of cards that would go well in them, despite those same cards being about as powerful at the kitchen table. Pretty sure if it wasnt for commander, you could sub the word "casual" in for commander.

Midnight prerelease! Posting when tired to get the experience fresh from my mind, so please bear with me for not knowing card names. Went with dimir wanting a fun mechanic vs getting the good meta choice of Orzhov and the wacky evolve mechanice... But it was a meh pull with the exile and play spectre and promo card being the two most usable, but the two draw a card mana filter artifact meant i could abuse the former. I did splash white for a trio of orzhov cards (two purge the profanes and a kingpins's pet.) which helped in match 3.

Match 1 was vs a simic deck, and i lost the first game, came back to win the second game, but lost game 3 due to lack of board presence. Match 2 was also vs simic and i won game one mostly through mill via the promo card and later the guildmage after managing to force a standstill with blockers and a missed opportunity on his part to attack. Game two was a quick loss due to his getting creatures on board quicker but game three i managed to get fliers while he lacked a way to block them. Match 3 was vs orzhov with a red splash, and was against a guy who's name is actually kinda commonly mistaken for mine... In fact match 1 i misread and went to the wrong table. Game 1 had me get a lead snowballing early, which i managed to keep the tempo up and took it. Game two was a severe mana flood resulting in being unable to get any board presence, and game three had a little back and forth with extort before i used the unblockable except by rogues guy to sneak while ciphered with the spell to make 1/1 fliers to keep his fliers occuped and the dimir guildmage to secure the win a little slowly.

At this one we were given a prize pack per win and i got a better luck with my two, getting a godless shrine blind obedience and a foil breeding pool.

For all the people that are saying about the square corner.... You do realize cards aren't cut out of the printing sheets with round corners, right? They normally cut down the printing sheets, cut the corners and then sand the corners to get a close of a match as posible. Good chance this could have come from a scrap printing sheet and they cut the cards up to stop leaks.

Hadnt thought of that. Instead i figured he had trimmed the edges just to keep us guessing. Because why not?

And now we know of a good way to get 4 biovisionaries. Although this card looks fun in general. But the fun doesnt stop there, since it can be used for a plethora of other things, and does seem like it would hold a bit of value.
