I'm disappointed to hear that the life counter is junky. That seemed like a neat life counter.
Is it hard to turn? Maybe it will loosen up with use? Or is it just flimsy?
Not so much flimsy (the parts themselves are fairly sturdy) but the fit of the pieces together is very loose, ie - the wheels jiggle back and forth annoyingly. It takes some force to turn but that will loosen with time. I don't know, was probably just expecting more than was reasonable
My LGS got 5. I now have one of them in my possession.
The foils are quite nice, actually. They're a lot closer to normal foils than FTV foils, maybe halfway between a normal foil and a PDS foil. They're like normal foils, just better.
Sadly, the life counter is a hunk of junk. It feels cheap and is hard to turn.
That is my thought on the life counter as well. It's cheaply made and whatnot...however I'm not sure I care. It is a good product and I've got my money's worth out of it from the cards, the rest of it is just bonus...haven't tried to sleeves out yet though
I am slightly displeased by the high prices of the cards as singles (especially Rhystic Study, the card from this set that I am most eager to obtain), but I suppose that that is understandable, due to the limited print run of this set. However, I absolutely cannot pay $20.00 for a foil Command Tower, regardless of how greatly I desire to have such a card; that is simply too high a price for a card whose previous printing is being sold for less than $5.00 by most vendors.
Will any online stores apart from StarCityGames be selling cards from this set as singles? I do not have an account with SCG at this present time (my preferred vendor is currently TrollandToad.com), and I am not certain if it is worth the time and effort of creating an account there to simply purchase one card. Does anyone else have advice to offer about that?
All online vendors will eventually sell singles from this set (more than likely) just due to circulation. Mostly however it is going to depend on how quickly the singles get sold and who ends up buying them. With SCG buying the opened boxes at 160$ I would guess that the majority of the stock will be with them...however as time goes on the stock of singles will disperse to the different retailers online. As for right now, your best bet is to just pick what you want off of ebay.
as a side note the most recent printing of command tower is the judge foil and that is about 30-35 right now so 20 for a foil is a good. And foils of many cards that have not previous foil versions are going to just be expensive...just happens.
If you paid the 75 dollars and have a receipt it's probably illegal for them to raise the price.
It would be in Canada (I'm fairly certain) so I guess it may be different down in Texas but still....
If this were the case then online retailers wouldn't be able to sell a card, see the price raise and then cancel the orders to get more money. But it should be the case

Really all I want out of the box are the oversized Grimgrin, the life counter, command tower, and decree of pain.

I'd guess the command tower will be 40ish, 20 for the decree of pain and probably 5-7 for the grimgrin. As for the life counter it is going to depend on how good the quality is.
nitpicking: you don't put the angel's ability on the stack, its controller does.
To expand on what is said here, your opponent will gain priority after your unsummon resolves but before you can move from the declare attackers step to the Declare blockers step. This gives him this opportunity to Flash in the angel should he/she so choose. You also, likewise will be able to respond to this casting as well.
This can go on for as long as either player has some action to take before advancing to the next step.
As Izzet charm got counter target non-creature spell unless controller pays 2, if Simic get a counter it'll be either a creature counterspell or a ability counter spell.
I'd expect a neutered voidslime/stifle effect for one of the modes
In addition to what has been said, blue was originally one of the most broken colors in the game in its card design. After wotc got the hang of what powerlevels were well within the acceptable range for tournament play they still every once in a while try to push the envelope to see what they can print. Some of those end up being "oops we knew this was good but we had no idea it would be this good" and some are the "oops we didn't see this coming at all"
Edit: other colors and artifacts have gotten this treatment too...as said above...not just blue

To the people who don't like oversized cards; Just wait until they print oversized foil Dual lands... How many people wouldn't want to build an oversized foil commander deck? - that would be the most pimp **** ever!
I just talked with the manager of the LGS in town and she said that it was going to be tuesday when she gets them.

as said they are somewhere between regular foils and PDS foils. Very good imo. And they didn't come out of the box already super curled...
