  • posted a message on Liberal media bias: does it exist?
    Quote from Qetu »
I don't think this "Liberal" word you speak of means what you think it means. I think you wanted to use "Partisan".
I think all media is partisan for one or other.

    Truthery.

Nearly all media is biased to one side or the other. It's just a fact. It's very difficult to have a completely unbiased media. They report on a lot of really controversial stuff, and it's nearly impossible to have total third-party reporting. That's why you should rely on various sources of media for your news (Hell, I even watch FOX, and I hate them!), and try to keep from being too dependant on any news source.

There's going to be bias in the news, and that bias goes both ways.

(This is besides the point of , and even quite contradictary to, what I said above, but I would argue that there is more of a conservative bias than a liberal one. This is because there is not more critisism of the Bush administration by the news, even with the "liberal" companies. IMO, some of Bush's flaws are much larger than what the media says. Take the whole Iraqi invasion, for instance. It was unneeded, poorly planned, we were misleaded into it. But, I do not see Bush being held accountable enough for the current mess by the media, which I think he should be. Anyone should be.

But, then of course, I'm a liberal, and a bit biased myself :p)

I don't think it is the bias that should concern us. It should be the content or actually, the lack thereof. When I see the news, I don't see the full story. I see the parts that are deemed appropriate and/or pallatable for the public.

Oh, man, so much truth here. It's so hard to find news that has more than a few minutes of real news. There is so little actual content in news (most of it's "human stories," sports, weather, or other stuff that's not really important), and most of the actual news stories are not done that well.

I wish there was a news service that was concerned with more than profits. About the closest I can find is NPR, which I think it pretty good.

Can you tell I don't like the media much? :p

I disagree with this statement. While I may disagree with Democrats almost all the time, I don't view them as the enemy. They're Americans too, for the most part.

There should be more people like this, on both sides of the asile. There are so many people that automatically hate others and their views just because they call themselves Republicans or Democrats.

Can you tell I don't like partisanship much, either? :p

Though I disagree with their goals...

I think that the inauguration is a waste of money, just like the conventions.
How many millions of dollars are spent introducing people we already know?

Swear him in, let him give a speech and throw the 40 million dollars raised into a place that needs it.

Agreed. What he's said is true for so many other things, too. So much — more than most of you can imagine having — is wasted on pointless stuff. It sickens me to think what could be done.

Although I agree with the organizer's ideas, I think what they're doing is pretty stupid. Doing something like NODD isn't going to do anything. I would rather put my effort in doing something that will actually have an effect.

    Also:
No money spent = no taxes, and so Bush is impacted.

No, he wouldn't be. Even if this boycott was widespread enough to have a big effect, the only people that would lose out would be the ones who are supported and effected by taxes. That would be the schools, the poor, and other people using public services.
(This isn't meant to be an attack on Goblinboy — just the NODD program in general)

Anyone like Radiohead...because I love them. Amazing band, one of the best ever.

Yup, even if I get a lot of weird looks from my friends when I say I do. They're a great band.

I like quite a variety of stuff, although there's a lot of grunge and classic rock on my iTunes.
Some favorite bands are: Pearl Jam, Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Clash, Dead Kennedys (! Punk!), Radiohead, The White Stripes, Modest Mouse (I can brag that I liked those last two before they got popular ;)), Talking Heads, Weezer, Guster, and the Counting Crows. (:D sorry for such a long list)

So much music, so little time (and money) ...

BTW, any other Pearl Jam fans out there? They're probably my favorite band right now. PJ is absolutly awesome, IMO.

  • posted a message on Mac Mini and Ipod Shuffle (Ipod Tiny..)
The Mac Mini is pretty cool. Maybe I should look into getting one, as my current computer (old, low-end G4) is getting a bit old (although the real reason I want one is so I don't have to share it with the rest of my family :P). I don't know much about the technicalities of computers, but looking at the specs, I would say the two are pretty close. It wouldn't be that hard to get a monitor or keyboard, either. *dreams*

I wonder how portable the mini is. I think it would be pretty tech if Apple came out with a flip-up monitor a la Gamecube or PS1. Now, of course, you wouldn't be carrying it around with you like you would a laptop, but it would usable on trips and such (at hotels).

As for the Shuffle ... meh. 512 or 1 GB isn't enough for me, but the price certainly is right. I think I'd rather spend the extra money and get a regular iPod.

I have it, but when i open it, there is no deck editor or anything like that. Help?

To get to the deck editor, click on the "Deck" button next to your picture and the "Profile" button, in the little section right under where the card image shows up. Hope that helps. Smile

I have it, but almost never use it. I don't really have any decks for it, and dislike the whole feel of playing over the internet, so I don't use it much.

However, if you're desperate to playtest or something, I suppose you could always try IMing me. If you're lucky (meaning you've caught me at one of those rare moments when I'm not busy with something ;)), maybe I'll play a couple games with ya.

Sorry I'm not more regular in using it, though.

I definatly want it to be in 9th, and also think it should be, but I have a feeling WotC doesn't feel the same way. Like others have said, it's out of color, and may be too powerful/game warping for thier liking.

Mirrodin for sure. Of the three, it had the highest average power level and the most innovative cards. I really loved this set.
Darksteel had some really (possibily too) powerful cards, but it also had a higher jank percentage (at least, that's what I've noticed). And, as for Fifth Dawn, it was pretty meh. I didn't like Sunburst at all, and there weren't many good cards, either.

    1. Mirrodin — It was powerful, and had a lot of very cool and fun cards in it. I really love some of the cards in Mirrodin. It's also when I *REALLY* got into Magic, so that counts for something, too.

    2. Tempest — Kind of before my time, but it was sweet. I've had a blast with the somewhat limited experience I've had with it.

    3. Unhinged — I have to include an Un- set, because they're great, and a cool spin on regular old Magic. I love the idea of Un- sets, and, IMO, Unhinged is the better of the two. There is a lot of sweet stuff in it.
