i say mono-white because the only worthwhile splashes in green are dauntless escort and behemoth sledge and mono-white dosen't need either of them, white has all we need(except another decent 2-drop soldier).
on the "building on a budget" article on wizards.com today was a soldier deck that had mirror entity as another thing to throw off preeminent, it seemed really good to me and i'm considering putting it in the sideboard as a nasty surprise.
Seriously? If you're playing soldiers in Standard before Lorwyn rotates, then you're the one doing it wrong.
That isn't the point. You said/implied Soldier decks owe all their wins to Honor of the Pure, which is a lie. Whether Kithkins are better than Soldiers or not isn't relevant to my statement. Think a bit please :).
I guess we'll have to play the waiting game and then come back to this discussion. For now, my final opinion is that the soldier archetype will amount to nothing more than a budget FNM deck than relies on Honor of the Pure for the low amount of wins that it will get.
If you think Soldiers win because of Honor of the Pure, you're doing it wrong.
Not to be rude man, but you did kind of bait out the response(s) because you made a thread saying how "everybody" thinks is a horrible card and obviously that not be the case?
Good post guy. I think you said it best. It's not the card its the deck. Kithkin is strictly better. I mean come on, they still have BigPapaPump!!!
No I am pretty sure none of us are "aware" I have seen nothing about it. Chances are yes but no confirmation so until then. So for all of you talking about what will happen in Zendikar. Two words..
SHUT UP!
It gets really tiring to hear about all of these people on these forums talk about how Zendikar will slow/ speed up the format. Bottom line is no one knows. So lets not talk about it!!!!
On the card itself. I think its a 6 out of 10 type card better than average. If it sticks people seem to not want to mention if they have a sorc speed kill for him he still pumps all other dudes in play. If he gets removed there still is 3 1/1 (possibly 2/2's with a Honor of the Pure in play.) The chances of him being a 3/3 is actually pretty slim. With all the pump in the deck atm he'll likly have some protection.
I don't remember that but Urza had an insider who said all the M10 types would be supported in Zendikar. This information is on the thread that explains what we know of zen, its stickied in the rumor mill you can't miss it.
Regardless, all soldiers needs to function is a good 3 drop post rotation. The entire deck stays the same....(excluding spectral, which everyone is using)
I'm also guessing that when lorwyn cycle rotates, the meta will slow down slightly, so if you take that in effect, i'm sure CotW will still be playable. (high chance imo)
I'm not sure why you're coming across as so rude, but I guess this is where some people thwart their cardboard ego's.
Anyways, good luck with that soldier deck. We'll discuss it some more when Lorwyn rotates and a watered down, inconsistent weenie deck clogged with creatures in every mana slot from 1-6 picks up where kithkin left off.
You are aware Zendikar will have Soldier support, right? If anything, Soldiers will get a lot stronger post-rotation.
If your COTW is surviving until your upkeep "AT LEAST most of the time" then you're playing in a different format than I am.
The "dies to removal" excuse is pointless. Almost everything does. Easy death didn't stop Goyf and isn't stopping Baneslayer. 9/9 worth of Vigilant creatures that pumps up the rest of your army for 6 is a bargain.
To be honest, this deck shouldn't exist when Kithkin are so good. Kithkin do the same thing as this deck without the craptastic manabase.
Not everyone can afford Kithkin. Also, this has the advantage that unlike Kithkin, 80%+ of it's tools won't rotate on October. Kithkin's T2 days are numbered.
A card doesn't have to be the single best card in a set to be overhyped. I've found that paying six mana for three 1/1's is pretty lousy. Guess you guys are doing something different.
Except those 1/1s are 2/2s Vigilant creatures AT LEAST most of the time (possibly higher with HotP/Veterans). It ISN'T Cloudgoat Ranger v2.0, CotW is a Tribal Lord Token maker so judge it as such.
Yeah, Mirror Entity is very unexpected.
Creature - Human Spellshaper
T,1RR, Dicard a card: Volcanic Pyromancer deals 2 damage to each creature and each player.
1/3
