Do you disagree? Standard was absolutely wretched to play last year. The format was boring, oppressive, and dreadfully unfun.

Yeah, and none of those are affected by price.

Fact is, Wizards want the "one card payed for the fat pack" phenomenon - that leads to more sales. But it's a short term strategy, cause it leads a lot of players to quit out of frustration when they notice they need to spend 500 dollars to have a deck that can play in equal footing at FNM (no, I'm not talking about pro tours).

The thing everyone needs to realize is this card is specifically meant to counter cards like Sphinx's Revelation, Unburial Rites, Blasphemous Act, etc. To me, it's a solid sidedeck option but that's it. While it's good in every match up, it's just not worthy of a main deck slot.

However, I have been having a ton of fun comboing this with Deputy of Acquittals so I can bounce him and name multiple spells that I know my opponents are running against me, that could really hurt my deck. Last game I played, I lost first game to a lucky Toil//Trouble and Debt to the Deathless, but the next two games I just threw him down, named debt to the deathless, bounced him back to my hand with deputy, then replayed him and named Toil//Trouble. It's a wonderful card that does quite a lot for the four mana you play for him. He honestly can make or break a game for you on his own if you play him smartly. Sidedeck him for sure.

This is true. Once his effect has resolved, it's permanent for the entire match. It does not matter if he leaves the field in any way after that. As long as his initial cast resolves, they will not be able to play the card you named.

Thing is, if you name fire, then they can no longer player fire and by extension, they can no longer play ice because ice requires you to play fire first to play it.

It really depends on your meta.

Everyone and their moms playing the same, game-defining spells makes this guy viable in main deck imho. I know everyone around here runs either sphynx's revelation or rakdos's return, so it could work. Of course, finding space in a deck for it could be kinda troublesome, but testing and time will tell...

Very tough pick. Lots of quality cards there, for me it comes down to: Gruul War Chant, Ascended Law Mage, and Renegade Krasis

None of them are outright bombs on their own, but all of them can be bombs with the right cards around them. I don't see a clear best pick from among them, but personally I would probably take the Gruul War Chant because I really like drafting fast aggro, and I think it is nuts in that deck.

Makes every creature a threat, and forces opponents to walk into 2-for-1's if they want to block your guys thanks to the abundance of combat tricks you have available in the form of Bloodrush dudes. And if they don't block your guys...then they probably die.

I agree with the first part, not the second.

The lawmage is murderous. That's why I picked him. Both other cards are very good if you can build a deck to support them - the lawmage can work alone.

Morgue Burst. Removal + recuring a creature seems nice. Overcosted of course, but in a slow format...

I agree that a UB mill deck would fold to most, if not all, Naya and Jund decks and it simply enables graveyard-oriented decks. I think there's still hope for UB in general, though, because at my LGS I have a blue-black zombie deck that runs pretty well. It's dominantly black for Gravecrawler and Geralf's Messenger, but the blue is useful for Diregraf Captain, Negate and Havengul Lich, among others.

For mill and Cipher decks, I guess there's always casual...

Or you can use W instead and put resto angels, obzedat and orzhov chamrs. You know, actually good stuff.

Lets be pragmatic, this meta is around 3 color decks. Theres already Azorius as the control color. Dimir is out of identity since heavy discard and stuff like fateseal are now considered unfun. Its inevitably a casual guild, because giving it good control cards would make esper control too good.

One piece at a time previews are super annoying.

They can work if they are AMAZING and the first spoilers of a new set.

After 84 cards? C'mon, just give us the damn card.

Is it just me or is "Take" actually powerful?

I can actually see Take as a nice combo with Zegana. Even if a bit tricky, it would net MASSIVE draw in a nice curve:

Thragtusk - Prime Speaker Zegana (draw 5) - Give/Take fused (draw 8) for maximum profit.

And if you want a real goldfish, throw in Master Biomancer!

Gah. Why is this not a RW costing creature? Boros already got screwed as the fastest guild by not getting a hybrid one drop when Azorious got one and Izzet got two; I was hoping their champion would be cheap. The card itself looks OK, probably not great in Constructed right now but it has potential. I'm just annoyed they didn't make something cheaper for us Boros fans.

Seriously? Why not a 2cmc 7/7 indestructible? I have no idea!

Just use you imba anthem / wrath avoider and you don't even neet to learn how to play aggro against wrath effects :p

AMAZING, Wizards. VERY inclusive, making the "most exciting part"only to US and Canada (and not even whole Canada). Make us feel part of a family, you know?

Damn, if that effect was in upkeep you could use it to actually destroy the enemy hand and then get rid of the creature.

The way it is, it's just beggin to cost you the game. If at LEAST Rakdos had madness in RTR block...
