Feb 4, 2014KnickM posted a message on Launch Giveaway!I know that it's an absurdly bad card, but I think that my favorite card is still Gabriel Angelfire. I remember when I first got one for my GW deck, before it was reprinted in Chronicles. I had a choice - for $17 I could get either Gabriel or the Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale. I was advised by the store owner to get the Tabernacle, and I kind of wish I'd followed that advice now, but I bought Gabriel and shuffled him into my 65 (60 card deck? What's that?). I don't know that I drew him in more than a handful of games, but I really liked playing with a Legend.Posted in: Announcements

Heh. A friend of mine laminated his deck, back in the day. He thought that it would keep the cards minty-fresh forever. He was sort of right. The cards look great, but are permanently sleeved, and of no value to anyone, since they can't be played outside that one deck. Bye bye, 8 dual lands.
I'd suggest a penny sleeve and a toploader instead, if you want to be extreme. Back-to-back foils in a binder work fairly well for me.
Heh. Happy birthday to us (mine's the 31st).
As far as the comic, I doubt it, since it's going to get printed in a nice trade paperback that they're going to sell in January.
You mean besides Island Sanctuary?
I've got a spare one, if someone wants it.
I was also told by my "local" TO that planes #41-45 were printed, and were going to be distributed as additional promo support with new sets. So, I got a Tazeem (41) for playing at the Planechase release, and I got Celestine Reef (42) for playing at the Zendikar release. I presume that it's to help lure people into tourneys as well as to try to gauge how well the multiplayer cards are rec'd. Then if they seem popular, more will be available. So, unless they give them out with the Sliver decks, 43 (Worldwake), 44 (Rise of the Eldrazi), 45 (12th edition, whoops, I mean M2011)
Man, I read that as "Knights vs. Beers", and I was wondering where the alcohol funny was ...
I'm pretty sure that's Jim Murray.
Yes, but they promised us that the box itself would be foil too, and I want to see that. I'm not sure what use, if any, a foil deck box has (blind your opponents, mayhap?), but it's new and different, and thus the legions of fans want to see it.
Thank you for the picture, OP. Great find!
Depends on what you like playing. When the decklists were released, I put the decks together and mocked up the planes, then took them to work and played over lunch with some friends. We had a great time, so I bought them. The decks are a pretty good deal for what you get - I think that all of them have some pretty useful cards even if you're just going to pull them apart. So I would advise looking at the decklists and deciding if the cards are worth it, and if they aren't, and if you don't like the crazy random effects, then don't bother.
I wouldn't buy them as an investment, they way that I would with FTV (if I were into that sort of thing). Planechase is sold out at my "local" store, but I don't think it's going to skyrocket in price or anything. Like I said, I enjoyed playing with the mockup decks, so I bought them.
GvL Spoiler, you're my new best friend.
Ah, I see. The "reserve" list had been mentioned, which is very different from the "restricted" list. Minor miscommunication, problem solved.
Thanks for the list, EmeraldHero.
It's likely that if you were to acquire the spoiler list from the future and then buy, beg, or trade for the singles, you'd be better off just buying singles, than buying this. And you'd be able to customize a bit more.
What you could do is buy this, and then sell some of the more expensive singles out of it, and then use those funds to buy the nonfoil versions, and then get yourself a discount that way. If you do it soon enough after the release, you might even turn a profit.
Who's the artist on Sign in Blood? And does that guy remind anyone else of Darth Maul?
I concur. It is a product in which I have very little interest (I'll probably buy 1 or 2 for the sweet packaging), but I am happy for those who are interested, and glad that they can buy something they want.

Sorry, I cannot link to it, as it's not on his website. And I don't want to get him in trouble by revealing art before it's allowed.
Actually ...
That's ALSO a Steve Argyle piece. He's entitled it "Vampire Lacerator".
