    Scavenging Ooze wasn't a reprint.

Also, how many of those were worth more than a few dollars when the product was released?

Yeah, I love how arguments are being made via the current prices of those cards, rather than what each card was worth when it was released. Using the cards listed recently, here's what the most recent printing of each was approximately worth in mid-2013 (using MTG Goldfish history):

    Aura Shards: $2
    Grave Pact: $5.50
    Oblivion Stone: $10
    Austere Command: $3.50
    Insurrection: $1.50
    Lightning Greaves: $4
    Solemn Simulacrum: $3
    Skullclamp: $2.50
    Eternal Witness: $3.50

The other Weatherlight saga character will be Maraxus of Keld. You heard it here first.

Tbh, even though I do concede it's more of a long shot with the art style previewed, I find it funny most folks seem to assume medieval courts and royalty rules out a Viking plane. Nordic history includes at least a millennium of monarchy, and I could easily see a Nordic plane incorporating both vikings and medieval courts, because they're both very strong aspects of Nordic history that would stay within the regional source while providing greater in-plane diversity of setting and social groups.

Eeeeh, not really sure this counts as an upshift. Only paper edition released till now was uncommon (excluding "mythic" from FTV).

There are quite a few languages spoken on the Iberian peninsula, of which the three most prominent are Spanish, Portuguese, and Catalan. Other languages include Galician, Basque, Leonese, and Aragonese. This is how "Frederick" is commonly spelled in the prominent ones:

    Spanish: Federico
    Portuguese: Frederico
    Catalan: Frederic

So she's most likely using the Catalan variant of the name.

Did they just pick up the phonebook and point to a random name for her?

    What's next?

    Mike Smith, Preparer of Taxes
Jane Doe, Baker to the Masses

I, for one, cannot wait for Jane Doe, Baker to the Masses. Gotta have that pâtissier so I can throw pies at all your creatures.

the defining factor of a swamp that differentiates it from a marsh or general wetland is that it has trees.
Live trees. As it is that Swamp would be more sunny than the forest and parts of the mountains during the day because of the total lack of canopy.
Innistrad, Tarkir and Ixalan swamps were pretty nice. And those that went on a bit of a tangent like Ravnica and Kaladesh' sewers and Alara's Tidehollow slums were very striking too. Pretty much anything that deviates from "lol dead trees with purplish mist" stands out because we have handfulls of those already.

Aaah, thank you for the sincere answer! That actually makes a lot of sense. Smile

These are nice but when will we get a Swamp that looks like a swamp and not just one more dead forest?

I'm a tad confused as to what you want out of a swamp, considering the defining factor of a swamp that differentiates it from a marsh or general wetland is that it has trees.

  • posted a message on Comannder Anthology II deck lists Atraxa Mimeoplasm Daretti and Kalemne
Just realized what looks like the likely reason they chose Kalemne: it means each color is represented in two decks each.

    White: Kalemne & Atraxa
    Blue: Mimeoplasm & Atraxa
    Black: Mimeoplasm & Atraxa
    Red: Daretti & Kalemne
    Green: Mimeoplasm & Atraxa

That said, I don't think the reasoning justifies including the Kalemne deck as representative of that year's cycles. :/ Sometimes sticking to a rubric just ain't worth it.

Landscape images on boosters, like Conspiracy had. Interesting.

And Unstable as well. Seems to be their way of signalling a set that's supplemental, focused on draft, and features new content (unlike Masters sets).

I actually quite like the modified frame...but the art being so incredibly Jacetastic does nothing for me. Rather sad to see how they tailored this so hard to players who love Jace; seems like they potentially narrowed sales a bit by going all in on the Jace art.

Also, really disappointed that this doesn't have Rhystic Study. Although the best place for that reprint would have been Masters 25.

I'm glad they're reprinting it, though, as a glorified Evolving Wilds should be dirt cheap.

Glorified feels like an understatement, for me at least. The fact this can come in untapped and give you mana same turn as playing it can make a huge difference.

Plus, you gotta have another land coming in untapped first turn to use this to grab a basic, so that's a slight advantage to Evolving Wilds & Terramorphic Expanse in those situations.

And it's also funny you say that, because on my iPad Air, every article has the right side of its text cut off when I'm in portrait view. Using Chrome as well. The lack of consistency on this site's functionality is astounding. About half the time I look at the Card of the Day the images are super squished. And I can't even identify what the pattern could be that causes that to happen so sporadically. It's beautiful.

As someone who does UI/UX web design professionally, I was able to have a great, sad laugh at work today with a dev guy who also plays Magic. This is just incredibly unprofessional.
