Checking in after a long time and so excited to see all of the enthusiasm and how far this deck has come. Really impressed with the dedication of this deck’s fans. I have a lot of reading to catch up on but really excited to dust this off, update it, and hopefully represent at some events soon!
How do we fare Vs hollow one? Edit: nevermind! Seems like a great matchup.
I've launched an Etsy shop where I sell Dry-Erase surface mtg sized cards to use for tokens, playtest, counters, lifepad, etc.
It's very new but some friends have been using them on their Legacy Twitch stream and it has generated some buzz.
It's FNM tonight, who's sleeving up and chucking cardboard?
Final tinkerings has me considering some experimental changes: 4 Molten Rain for my 4 Goblin Rabblemaster. Also, instead of a 2nd Piran: Octopusman mentioned Pia Nalaar a couple times on this thread. Initially, I dismissed the regal lady, as a lesser version of the partnered pair: Pia and Kiran Nalaar. But, then again.....
- She comes out one turn earlier. Significant since we're a bridge deck - also, fast decks will blast you before you reach 4-cmc.
- She doesn't conflict with the legendary rule on another Pia and Kiran Nalaar. You can have both on the field at the same time.
- Her pumping ability finally finds us a 'mana sink'.
- Against the very popular Lantern deck, I can pump my Spellskite to get under their bridge and smack face.
- Against the very popular Affinity deck, I can pump their Ornithopter or Signal Pest, so they can't get under my bridge. If I Chalice for 1, then Pia's protected from Galvanic Blast & that's GG!
Is this along the lines you were thinking, Octopus? It all seems pretty sound. I'll put her out on the dance floor and we'll see what happens tonight.
RULING QUESTION: Someone said earlier that 2 gemstone caverns under a cherry moon will trigger the legendary rule effect. Is this true? Does blood moon see past these now 'non-basic' mountains??
I think you went above and beyond finding uses for Pia not even counting the "target creature can't block"scenarios!
Last year I tried Pia and Kiran and liked them quite a bit. I will try supplementing them with a Pia Nalaar next time I jam some games.
For what it's worth, I ran Stone Rain in Dragon Stompy in Legacy for a period to handle singleton/fetched basics and it was pretty good. The problem with the Legacy build is that, at the time, the clock was semi weak when on the Stone Rain build. That might be different with Chandra and Prodder now. Will revisit. Excited to see that jfmajor is testing Molten Rain and excited to hear how it goes!
Fiery Confluence has been showing up in a lot of Legacy lists but they have the luxury of sol lands.
Unfortunately, the cost is rising for this card right now so sorry I didn't mention it earlier. It does help protect walkers, remove threats, dome them... and maybe kill pesky artifacts.
Don't agree with bolt & Tibalt at all. Relic main not needed as Dredge will be abandoned for the short term and can be handled G2/3 with hate cards out of the board.
Regardless, I'm happy to see this get more exposure. Though the developments going on in this thread are largely ignored by SCG/Goldfish.
Since it's not Skred, I'd say that based solely on testing alone, Raystack probably has the most developed version of the deck at this time. Seems that a few tweaks here and there to address the state of the meta is all that's left.
Personally, I wouldn't drop the ritual/SSG count at all. I like Jfmajor's criticism of game1 spellskite and to remain totally focused on the all-in nature of our T1 strategy.
Excited. Though, unless my employment situation changes, I will likely have to skip the Modern GP in Vegas this June :(. Currently planning on doing Legacy only. Would have to get a couple more night's accommodation to play Modern which comes out to several hundred dollars factoring in the insane $90 entrance fee.
Seems to be the most exciting developments to the deck in a while. Total opposite of my approach which was basically all agro and no control. The increased 2-drops mitigate the losses of the sweepers?
I'd consider leaving the Rabbles out. The control variant is at odds with it and better to stay focused game one rather than have a diluted game plan. I like to think Chandra as a one-sided Sulphuric Vortex and seems like you could get there. The Koths with parents seems good win cons along with Magus beats. Though, I wonder if shaving one Koth for Pia Nalaar is considerable.
4 Spellskite seem super important if upping it to a full playset. Shutting off auras or which permanents are you trying desperately to protect?
I like Dragon's Claw for its ability to trigger immediately. Sun Droplet is slow enough that sometimes I think you'll just die whereas claw will have kept you alive.
Seems like you have enough room in the board for Molten Rain. Can you talk about the Trading Post?
Which decks are you bringing the Rabbles in against?
Loving the look of this one. Grats on your finish.
Surprised there isn't more action in this thread since Saffron's revisiting of the "free win red" deck recently cause the price on Koth to move up a bit... [edit] and the GP win you mentioned.
I was more wondering if painter was worth it against eldrazi since they can warping wail it.
Glad there's so much passion right now.
Regarding the surprise, if you can have semi-consistent moon on T1/2 sometimes it doesn't matter if the cat is out of the bag. I've had opponents mull themselves into a loss because they're too terrified that they don't have a basic. This will sometimes happen to experienced players and it's a darned if you do darned if you don't. I'm not so much trying to make the deck that is okay against most things but one that basically auto-wins versus a good amount of things and then shore up the other matchups post board.
My quest is to find one of these types of cards (ones that can benefit from RED Mana Generation (Desperate Ritual, Koth -2, Chandra +1) that can win from behind an ensnaring bridge. Thoughts?
Also, Tormenting Voice, do you ever feel bad if it gets countered? If not, is Cathartic Reunion better?
I got lucky and opened two Chandra at the prerelease. Sad to hear she's not great, but her plus 1 is also a one sided Sulfuric Vortex kind of so you don't need to be drawing things, you can just shock for 2 every turn behind your bridge.
I only have two bridges. Do you think that having 3 is absolutely necessary out of the board? I was thinking of a Painter's Servant as a 1 of in the board to help with Eldrazi (though warping wail?).
Otherwise, I have everything I need to create your list card for card minus a few cheap things (mutas, jets, slags, claw).
However, since the event isn't for several months, I'm probably going to see what the meta is like closer to the event before I get set on my list. I think Kaladesh will bring some changes. I still struggle against things like Wyrmcoil. I suppose that is where bridge will do work.
How often is Mutavault just a mountain and is it actually attacking when you have bridge out since it will probably get stomped, no?
I'm still conservative on how many rituals to use. I'm still keeping 4 (+4 simian). Blood Moon turn1 or 2 is an auto win many times
About Chandra, I'll start using one (replacing Pyromaster), but yes, I see that she seems better than Koth. Let's see...
Abou the "best list", I think we should keep the "lock" characteristic of this deck. For a more aggro approach we already have the Skred red.
Hugo, in comparison it looks like you're more liberally using rituals. I think I want to have a minimum of 4 as well since the goal all along in my mind is to land moon as soon as possible as often as possible. I doubt that I'll include as many as I did back in December.

Enjoy!
Kind regards,
Octopus Man/Peter
Make me proud!
Hopefully I get something local soon. This deck has my complete focus for Modern.
Mvilla888, grats on your finish! Loved the report.
I'd like to see what cards you're cutting for what you bring in vs. various matchups during sideboarding. Thanks so much for the report!

This is very outdated but you can check out the article I did for Modern Nexus which touches on Gemstone Caverns:

Loving this momentum.
Clearly, I am a Modern noob. Thanks for clearing that up.

Knollspine Invocation?

I like Raystack's list a lot.
