I have some money to burn, I want to play MTG casually in college andddd I want something to do with my brother (who also plays). I'd sold my cards when I dropped the game about two years ago but I was thinking I'd rebuy my old deck. Here's the list:
I wanted to know if it would be a better idea to drop Baneslayer Angel and replace it with Sorin, Lord of Innistrad. The rest of the list-for the people I'm playing against-I'm comfortable with.
I also wanted to set up an elf deck. I wanted to center it on Rhys the Redeemed and Elvish Promenade with an emphasis on token generation. Any suggestions? Should I go mono-green; splash another color?
Gaza sucks, West Bank is stable and those are the ones pressuring for the state. Frankly, I feel that Gaza will become the "Pakistan of Palestine" while the West Bank may very well be stable for a long time and become say like India or Bengal.
Gaza is still part of the Palestinian territories and as it stands the PA is looking to incorporate both the West Bank and the Gaza Strip into Palestine. Hamas was elected to the PA legislature in Gaza. The Palestinians (and to a degree, the Israelis) are responsible for reigning in Hamas before we can see a stable, unified Palestine.
First of all, I think the OP poses an unfair question-why shouldn't Palestine be recognized as a state by the UN? Most people would say that the Palestinians have a right to self determination, and they would be correct in saying so. But as it stands, it would appear to be irresponsible and unsafe to throw the mantle of nationhood onto a divided group, one half under Fatah/Israeli occupying authorities, the other under the grip of the terrorist group Hamas.
As for negotiations, they've obviously stalled but both parties are at fault. On the one hand, we have Israel which continues to encroach into the territories with settlements. On the other hand, Israel terminated its settlement freeze last year because that freeze had been instituted at the request of the Palestinians in exchange for negotiations. When negotiations were going nowhere, the PA asked for another settlement freeze in exchange for continued negotiations-you can see why Israel denied the request. I'm not saying the Israelis are right in playing political football with Palestinian Authority land but the PA is also corrupt and tends to beat around the bush.
Creating a Palestinian state under these conditions would be a destabilizing move in an already volatile region. Militants are still firing rockets into southern Israel from Gaza. The Palestinians still lack a truly unified government. When the rockets stop and the PA gets its act together and reigns in Hamas, then I think we can cut Israel a bit less slack on this issue.
I know this seems like a stupid question but I'd rather not waste the time/effort going to the Pro Tour if I'm not going to have anything to do so I'm just double checking.
Does anyone know if you use Garruk, the Veil-Cursed's abilities if you used one of Relentless's abilities the same turn? That could make or break this card's playability.
Another thread about the transform mechanic... woo hoo...
So, do we know how the checklist cards will be distributed? Will they go in the token/tip card slot or will you be able to get them through other means? It seems annoying, particularly for limited, to have such a sporadic availability of checklist cards (as tokens/tip cards).
Also, as an aside, will foil transformers be foil on both sides?
Or that Rightists like Jews because they're Biblical and Palestine for Leftists are a persecuted minority on their native lands. I don't think Leftists hate western civilization, nor does the right hate Islam.
Jews are... Biblical?
That's an interesting way to put it.
I disagree. While right wing philosophies aren't inherently anti-Islam, some modern conservative political parties certainly do use Islam as a pariah (xenophobia/modern Islamic extremist groups=perfect storm for scapegoating). I think it's naive to say that at least some of these parties don't perceive Israel to be anti-Islam.
Liberal/left wingers don't necessarily "hate Western civilization"-that said, however, they do sometimes "root for the underdog" (in this case the Palestinians) whether or not the support is merited.
As an aside... it's interesting the amount of exposure-good and bad-Israel gets for such a small country. There's a strange, global obsession (probably perpetuated by the movers and shakers on both sides of the conflict) with that little strip of desert.
So PT Philadelphia (September) is still fair game? And is there anything to do for non-qualifiers at Pro Tours? Vendors? Side events? Promos? Is there an entry fee for non-qualifiers?
Yes and no. It is too the extent that the right to self-determination is justifiable-that being said, movement for Palestinian statehood are also justifiable. Zionism as a means (or excuse, rather) to circumvent the nationalistic aspirations of other groups (namely the Palestinians), is obviously not justified.
2. Is Zionism a form of theocracy? Why or why not?
A theocracy is a type of government whereas Zionism is a nationalistic movement. Do you mean to ask if the Israeli government is theocratic? If so...
No. The Israeli government, for all its shortcomings, wrongdoings, etc. is anything but theocratic. The government doesn't claim to derive its authority from a deity/"higher power" and non-Jewish faiths practice freely there.
3. Are the arguments about Jews losing their identification as Jews and becoming nonJews a worthy enough goal to promote Zionism?
I think saying Jews would lose their ethno-religious identity without Zionism/Israel is a ridiculous assertion. There were obviously instances of forced conversion (i.e. Spain) and persecution before Israel's inception as a modern state.
That being said, the Poles didn't have a nation of their own for a few centuries prior to the First World War. They were still Poles (even though they lived in Russia, Austria and Prussia/Germany). They obviously have right to self determination, though.
I've encountered some interesting characters on MWS:
The worst was this guy who played a It That Betrays from his deck (using a legitimate method... I forget how). Anyways, next turn I bounced it using Unsummon. He insisted that I couldn't do that because it had never been in his hand. He then created a 1/1 colorless "N00B" token, dragged it over to my side and logged off.
There was also a guy who told me I couldn't draw arrows when targeting and attacking because it was "annoying". He then threatened to quit if I drew an arrow when targeting/attacking.
I've also found that a lot of times on MWS (mind you in a game with the join tag "casual/fun") if I beat someone with a homebrew they'll ask for a second game and if they can switch deck, then load some ridiculous netdecked tier one tournament viable deck or something loaded with P9 and the like. Not necessarily rude, but a little annoying.
I really like the idea. A draft of out of print sets has potential to be very popular, depending on the player base, my friends would drive a long way to draft Mirrodin-darksteel-fifth dawn.
As far as I know they would have to have a judge in order to have any DCI support, but look into that 'cause I really don't know.
It sounds like you don't have enough space in the store thou, I would recomend finding another place, have a smaller draft. me and a few of my friends had a draft with just eventide, it was great, the guys at the store looked at me funny when we mentioned we where gonna draft with it.
In terms of "support" I wasn't necessarily thinking DCI. If I could build enough interest ahead of time, the store owners might be inclined to give a couple of packs to whoever finishes first or something along those lines.

Okay, but that's the only requirement? Do you know if you can register with the DCI on-the-spot/is there anyway to do it remotely?
Thanks again
Quick question: are "public events" at Pro Tours (http://www.wizards.com/Magic/TCG/Events.aspx?x=mtg/event/magicweekend/philadelphia11-public) like the name says... open to the public? Do you need to have qualified for Pro Tour or just be a DCI member? Or neither?
I know this seems like a stupid question but I'd rather not waste the time/effort going to the Pro Tour if I'm not going to have anything to do so I'm just double checking.
Thanks in advance
I guess this can be closed now

Would it be possible to go to a Pro Tour just to watch? Are there vendors or anything to do on the side if you're not in it as a player?
Thanks in advance...
